K-actresses Han Ye Seul and Choi Kang Hee Take on Non-acting Industry Jobs in Recent Period for Differing Reasons

There are cases of stars getting cancelled or in trouble with the law and we stop seeing them onscreen, but other times stars just slowly stop acting and there are too many to count and I have plenty of faves on that list. Recently two actresses gave interviews explaining why each has been MIA on the small screen for years. Han Ye Seul shared that she was getting an aesthetician’s license because she loves beauty and perhaps one day it would be her job. She confessed to wanting to act but in recent years has not gotten any offers or scripts. Her dream would be to do a Netflix drama which are her faves. Conversely Choi Kang Hee was featured as a guest in a variety talk show where she explained that she consciously left K-ent three years ago to stop acting. She told her manager not to take any scripts and even changed her cell phone. She told her family she didn’t want to act anymore and her family was supportive and told her to go live the life she wanted. She’s then tried different jobs such as waitress, housecleaner, sanitation worker, and went to school to learn to be a broadcast writer. She had been acting for 25 years and wanted to figure out what she was good at beyond that. I hope both actresses find what each is looking for.

K-actresses Han Ye Seul and Choi Kang Hee Take on Non-acting Industry Jobs in Recent Period for Differing Reasons — 22 Comments

  1. Oh…no wonder I never saw Choi Kang Hee anymore. She is a actress that brings in viewerships, as even thru she is not beautiful as those actress that undergo cosmetic procedures, her acting is heart warming and she touch many that watches her shows. She have a good record of dramas and movies under her belt.
After trying so many different jobs and living the lives of regular people…I do wonder if she will make a comeback one day?

    • There. She does not have any plans of joining a new agency, but if a project that she likes, that she needs will come along, then she will go back to acting.

      • I would not say I am a fan of her…but I have watched a couple and enjoyed those dramas. But I dont wait nor follow her new works. If the storyline is interesting, I will watch.

Her approach to life is so wonderful. I would have to have a chat with someone like her. Getting back to basics…

    • I thought she was absolutely gorgeous in “Good Casting” like the stylist knew how to dress her, good hairstyle and makeup, and accessories.

  2. I’ve always wondered what happened to CKH. Her career has been very good. Celebrities/Actors’ life are not for everybody. I’m glad she is finding herself. We, Afterall, only lived once.

  3. Between the two of them, I’d rather Choi Kang Hee return to the small screen. She’s quirky and a joy to watch. I feel that Han Ye Seul is too controversial and that’s probably why PD’s are not sending her scripts. But it’s good if she can channel her passion to other artistic avenues.

  4. I never particularly liked CKH’s acting, but I always found her charming, so I’m glad that she is living the life she wants. I will always have a soft spot for HYS because of Couple or Trouble, so I would love her to make a come back, but either way, I hope she’ll be happy.

    • Loved her in that too! I’m glad she left us with that gift before quitting the industry.

I’m happy for both actresses deciding to pursue new passions

      • Yes, you said it so well! CKH left us with a wonderful gift before quitting the industry.

    • Still someone remember her drama “Sweet Buns”, it’s the 1st drama i saw with her , already 20 years . She is a likeable actress , and i watched a lot of her dramas . She may be the not typical beauty , but she has a presence that made me remember her name . Nowadays i tend to forget the name of actresses ! So much actresses that i don’t see anymore Chae Rim, Han chae Young,Han Go Eun,Lee Soo Kyung,…

  5. To be honest I’ve never really liked Choi Kang Hee as an actress so I can’t say I will miss her onscreen but good for her for pursuing what she wants and consciously stepping away from the acting industry when it was no longer fulfilling her.

I think Han Ye Seul had a few too many controversies and she was known more for her looks than her acting, hasn’t had a hit in a while and she is over 40 and we know what the industry is like unless you are the lucky few like Song Hye Kyo, Lee Bo Young, Song Ye Jin, Honey Lee. Thus she was, unfortunately, easily replaced as a lead actress. No shame in training in a different field and learning new skills and aesthetics can be very lucrative.

Wishing both ladies well in their future careers.

  6. Han Yeseul’s career hasn’t been the same since she walked out of her drama set and that wasn’t even the first time that she’s been called out for unprofessionalism. If she isn’t getting any scripts, it might have to do with her reputation in the industry and not by her own will like Choi Kang Hee. It’s a shame though because HYS seems like a decent enough actress with movie & drama hits to her name. Ngl she definitely didn’t need the plastic surgery.

  7. Actress Choi Kang Hee seems happy but if she has been acting for 25 yrs then, she must have a savings,no? Do supporting actors get such low money in Kdrama? Does she really need to do jobs?

    • Didn’t watch the show but from what I understood she did these jobs not because of money but because she wanted to tey other things. She wanted to know if she was good at something else other than being an actress.

      • That’s nice. Btw, I have heard that in Kdrama, supporting actors don’t make much, how true is that?

    • She said she wanted to try to do things since she had been acting for 20+ years. She also started living independently. She came out to do the omniscient episode to let people know she is doing okay despite doing the normal jobs quite far from acting since some people are worried about her.

  8. I didn’t really think much of Choi Kang-hee’s absence because Hello Me was not that long ago. I thought it was just a usual break. Good for her for trying other things in life.

This reminds me of Kim Nam-jin. I recently read that he stopped acting because his reserved personality could not handle the publicity.
