So I don’t know if this is really happening but he did say it publicly and if its true then it’s a loss for C-ent. C-actor Xu Zheng Xi (Jeremy Tsui) posted on his Weibo a message saying farewell to his spot as an actor, thanking fans for their longtime support, and apologizing for creating any trouble. If he is indeed quitting acting, industry insiders are saying it’s due to a long building conflict with his agency. He is forced to take roles and dramas he doesn’t want to do and not allowed to act in roles he wants. His agency also won’t let him out of his contract. So leaving may be his only way out between a rock and a hard place. He has said that he will finish any prior commitments. He can currently be seen in a guest starring role in xianxia C-drama Burning Flames and as the male lead in recently aired period romance C-drama Yongan Dream.
That is very sad news. I like him a lot as an actor. Shame on the agency if true.
Is there any word on what he is going to do after acting?
I like him and his acting, although this last year, I’ve been distracted by his very vampire pancake makeup filter in the historicals I watched with him. I t really interfered with my enjoyment of Royal Rumors that I started noticing it in mostly on his dramas (haven’t watched is newest).
It absolutely tragic that a gorgeous and talented actor like him feels pushed to the edge by his agency. Over the past years they signed him up for a line-up of idol dramas that are way beneath his capabilities, usually with some starlet would-be actress as a co-star and then, just to add insult to injury, people complain about him being too old (if not worse) and the production team slapping on tons of makeup or using excessive filters.
There is only so much any real actor with a backbone can take.
I hope it’s a tactical retreat and everything will be resolved very soon! He is talented and deserves to be treated better!
I hope this is not the end… He is a under-rated actor.
I knew there had to be something as to why this talented actor was seen with every new idol actress instead of actors his age which was prevalent in his earlier works. They really stretched this mans patience and passion out. I hope he stays active somehow and rests until he can make his return. These agencies are greedy and have no desire to actually uplift their artists.
It was a bold move from him to sacrifice a major chunk of his career, right after doing his best to change the tide. However, his agency was adamant about restraining him and making him work on projects beneath his talent. He could have been wasted for good as most people didn’t understand why he was getting the same projects with newbies. I know he’ll be back stronger, hang in there and enjoy some rest!

To be honest, it was kind of relieving to hear his departure. His roles were getting hard to bear, ditto on the heavy makeup and aging aspect. He wasn’t going anywhere in his career and seeing him in these idol roles just made me want him to quit. Similarly I feel the same way about FSF. He…is not aging well, and he needs to stop taking idol roles. He would do much better in characters that actually reflect his age.
But now I know the reason why he took on these roles. And that he has no say on what dramas he can be in (when all along I thought he WANTED these roles to stay in the idol game.)
It’s better to leave with a clearer mind of his goals than to drag his feet in crappy dramas to hope for an opportunity for a better character.
Maybe if he does come back, he will show a different side of himself.
I have to say when I read his message, I went- No wonder… At his age, he is still picking idol dramas with very young actress or those that cannot really act. I really felt uncomfortable watching him in those roles.
But I really dont want him to stop…maybe he can turn around after his contract expires and follow Zhu Yilong’s journey and switch to doing movies. Abandon his idol looks. Or he can move to HK and see if there are roles he can take on.
The movie circle is very difficult to break into unless you have the right connections. Seeing from his words, I’m guessing maybe he wanted to try out supporting roles in serious genres but his agency forced him to stick to lead roles in idol dramas.
@Lilith, that is very true. I really hope he will continue acting in future after a break…
He has something to call back on, his family is rich, seriously rich, but at the same time I wish he could have taken them to court about the contract. I get why he doesn’t want to but we are losing someone who can really act.
Cent future doesn’t look too bright tbh.
No, his family isn’t filthy rich and they have no connections to Tompson Yinpin. He isn’t quitting acting to take over the family business, either.
Those are malicious rumours spread on the internet to portray him as a spoilt 2nd generation rich kid to distract from the real issue at hand.
Just ask yourself, if he was so rich and well-connected, why would he be bullied by a second-class agency?
Agreed. If he really rich, he might do as what Tao Z did. Out of SM, then made own agency and picked everyone he likes to join his agency.
talking bout Tao, i love his current antics lol. Truly living his life to the fullest
Frustrating and disappointing that a talented actor has to step away from the industry in order to protect his mental and physical health and his dignity. It has been puzzling why he picked up a string of idol dramas when he should be picking projects that would extend the longevity of his career, but now it all makes sense in a sad way. I think he would be good in theater. He has good command of audience and has a good speaking voice. I hope he can still pursue what he likes to do.
Wth , I hope someone can help him! What a loss! I like him, he is a great actor.
On one hand it is sad to see him go, but on the other I think it’s ok. As much as I want to, for some odd reason, I can never get into a Jeremy Tsu’s drama. Not sure if it’s mainly the plot, co-stars, or himself but I do know his acting is not my cup of tea. While he got the looks, aging like fine wine, his acting doesn’t come off charming to me. He has a distinct way of acting, I concurred, maybe too natural? something about it, idk.
Another thing I don’t get why he keeping playing his roles like a comedian when he’s not… His characters over his latest dramas are supposedly serious guy for the most part, but then at random times he’s cutesy-cutesy. Almost as if JT or production has a hard time knowing his character, can’t make up their mind to keep his character consistent to completion. At that rate, his acting runs all over the place for me. I don’t feel like he has chemistry with any of his co-stars either. In acting, he frequently seen carrying that zoned out look. He’s also the only magistrate I see in dramas that puts his hand out like that…a very, very unique actor. He’s either too immersed or too zoned out, idk.
If there’s one drama of his I could recommend, it’s ‘The Legend of Dugu’. believe me, it’s the anti-thesis of everything you’ve mentioned above. His chemistry with Ady An completely stole the show and netizens were focussed on their story instead of the main leads.

Maybe it’s the fault of the production, drama writers and costars. A lot of his recent costars are young and inadequate actresses (Ouyang Nana, Yang Chaoyue). I’ve been in a job where the majority of the people on my team were incompetent and just kept creating issues for me/other competent people on the team. I started losing motivation and was just going through the motions and doing the bare minimum until I got a new job. So I can relate if he looks like he’s zoned out sometimes, because he probably is.
Unfortunately, many Actors are in this predicament. Agencies use them like cash cows. Actors cannot grow artistically and become trapped by the Agency rules. Slaves. If his only way out is to leave as an Actor, then so be it. Everyone knows his true talent and can see how he is stagnated in the later roles he was forced to do. No Agency should have lifetime rights on any Actor or Actress.
I support his decision and hope to see his future work, no matter what that might be. He is a very talented person, creative and can be one of those Actors who you never get tired of, no matter how old they are. Aging, maturing is very attractive. I for one, am truly sick and tired of the High School antics. It’s embarrassing to watch a scene of adults turn into 5 and 10 year olds. Wishing you good fortune.
