K-dramas

Netflix Releases First Mysterious Poster and Preview for Game K-drama The 8 Show with Ryu Jun Yeol and Chun Woo Hee

Streaming giant Netflix has been a roll in 2024 with its own produced K-dramas, much more akin to the success of 2022 than in 2023 when its K-drama were just okay received. There was A Killer Paradox, Chicken Nugget, and most recently Parasyte: The Grey. But it feels like the network is going too fast paced with a new released every three weeks as Goodbye Earth is coming at the end of April and then in mid May there is The 8 Show, which released its first teaser poster and preview this week. Starring Ryu Jun Yeol, Chun Woo Hee, and Park Jung Min, the drama feels like a less violent and maybe less deadly version of Squid Game, where 8 people enter a building with 8 floors in a time to money competition. This seems like exactly the type of K-drama that I-audiences will eat up and if the series is good I expect high viewership.

  • Will be interesting to see if his dating scandal will affect RJY's career... I really doubt so. There is one big victim and it is not him.

    • I was gonna to make a similar comment and this! LOL. He's the one with the character among the three I questioned most though.

    • Tbh I think his career will be fine because RJY is considered a film actor and they get more leeway and respect than TV actors. He is an actor rather than a celebrity so he's famous for his talent rather than for his looks, charms or CFs or whatever. He was wise enough to stay silent during the HSH debacle so nothing can be pinned on him besides being a crappy boyfriend but he tends to play character roles as antiheroes or oddballs rather than romantic leading men type roles anyway so it won't impact his work or endorsements.
(Also he's a man and-rightly or wrongly-it's always easier for them lol)

      • @Sunny, I think so too.... I agree with you, his acting career will be fine. Maybe CFs may get affected but I dont think he has lots anyway.

There is really one big victim here...

  • His dating scandal doesn't sit well me although I'm usually indifferent to celebs' private life. It would be hard for me to remove his suspicious image of two timer when watching him on screen. Besides, his acting wasn't that great in the past regardless of he won the best actor of Baeksang last year. I don't watch nor appreciate a drama based upon how Baeksang judges or the public majority think about the drama or acting. I'll check a drama or an actor if ppl recommend with good reviews. But at the end, I'm the one who decide if it's up my alley or not. Ppl have no authority to argue their ways and force their preference on me. RJY fangirls should stay out of my way. LOL

      • I'm always puzzled how the heck ppl have a fetish to be so passive aggressive. Am I a wet blanket to you that you're so uncomfortable I just dislike this guy either as an actor or as a person? LOL. You sounded so butthurt that you have to be so rude in order to defend him! LOL. Like celeb like fans!

      • Lol I'd rather converse with @Somebody at parties than you braindead stans with you all's same boring NPC-ass responses everytime other people don't worship y'all's faves. I may not agree with some of Somebody's takes but at least she has actual adult opinions and stand by them. Tired of y'all's braindead rabid stan comments here, like seriously “YoU mUsT bE FuN aT pArTiEs”? Instead of actually giving a mature argument with substance that can add to the discussion, you chose to comment that NPC-ass retort? LMAO

      • @Ecora, this Lily has a track record using really offensive sarcasm responding to other comments rather than arguing back with substance. I'm done with her.

  • I can't care less about his relationship with exes to decide if I gonna watch this drama or not. People acting like he is some criminal, this is ridiculous. Korean celebrities can have "ugly break up" like anyone else. Hollywood celebrities get divorce and cheat on each other whenever they want, and nobody cares, this doesn't affect movies at all. But celebrities from conservative Korea forbidden to be not perfect human being. Whenever they show their shortcoming, cancel show starts immediately, and international fans even more active and aggressive than knetz in this.
Hope someday k-drama and k-pop fans will stop being so interested in gossips and celebrities personal lives.

    • The people who don't like him (^ above) was never interested in him or his career in the first place, didn't even know he won an acting award for a movie. Everyone keeps calling him ugly as if we already didn't know, as if he ever depended on his looks to be a celebrity. It's always been about his acting, dude had to work hard to be noticed without pretty privilege. He didn't lose anything because his audience aren't fangirls sharing his photos and taking screenshots. And them being sus of him based on him being quiet and professional and two girls not shutting up is laughable.

      • LOL. They can't tolerate there are even ppl who don't like this guy's acting or visuals nor like him as a person in real life. So much love for a crappy guy who has no balls dealing his controversial dating.

  • What about The 8 show, teasers seems a little boring and very pretentious for me. I hope my impression is wrong.

  • So, let's picture a man in a long-term relationship. After 7-8 years (I think), he ends the relationship, or the couple decides to end it. It happens, you guys. No relationship is time-proof and noone is obliged to stay in a relationship one doesn't need or want anymore. And when a relationship ends, former partners do move on. That is life, that is what sane people do. It does happen though that sometimes one former partner moves on too soon for the other's liking. But this isn't on the first one; it's the second that must reflect and let go.

In this case, long-term relationship, break-up, he moved on, she thought it was too early, she expressed her dismay in a sarcastic way,one could say. He has the right to move on with his life and is not obliged to report to his ex about his love life; she can be understandably sore but needs to work with herself and let go. And she will be fine.

Now enter the new girlfriend. She also has the right to feel overwhelmed and annoyed that netz made her look like a home-wrecker, when she wasn't. But she clearly has issues of her own and made a mountain out of a mole hill. And of course she's a young, beautiful and successful woman and society is always out to get women, either out of pure sexism or sheer jealousy. And vocal netz are very often incels, pick-me girls or totally insane people.

In all these shenanigans, the only fault I find is for the girls to let the net mob in their lives. I can understand and feel sorry for them, but it was still a mistake. Him, on the other hand, I can't blame him for trying to keep a low profile. If they all had acted like this, nothing would have happened and this whole thing would have stayed what it is: a non-issue.

    • There's no proof of any timeline of their messy relationships. Now everything turned out to be he said she said. There are many speculations. Some ppl take girls at fault. Others, me included, consider the guy a two timer. No proof in any case. Everything is a guess including mine and your take. Only insiders know what's going on with the scandal. I'm almost sure nobody here is an insider. LOL so obvious. Therefore, everyone gossiping here on the forum as an outsider is entitled to an opinion. Nobody should be ridiculed or gaslighted (by Guest and Lily for example) for our speculation of whatever isn't proved or no way to verified anyhow.

Some ppl making comments with mockery above obviously have no brains or civil manner to understand this and accept that there are ppl who just don't like this guy either as an actor or as a person even they admire him. LOL.

      • As you stated, there's no proof either way and no one except for the three people involved know exactly what happened. This means that you are choosing to believe he's at fault, because you don't like him. How is that different from all the people choosing to believe he didn't do anything wrong because they do like him? You're calling them brainless fan girls, but in all honesty you're no better. Arguably, you might even be worse because you're basing your opinion on hate for a person you don't even know in real life.

There's no proof and it was a very messy situation, so how about instead of forming an opinion and gossiping, we all just stay out of it and leave it as it is.

      • Indeed, but not knowing what really happened should stop us from taking sides and openly supporting or hating either one of the three. On the other hand, that is easily done for me who haven't watched practically anything with these guys (a couple of episodes of the gumiho drama with Hyeri, Soundtrack no 1 with Han So Hee, nothing with the guy). I understand that for people who are fans of either of them it must be more difficult to do.It also depends on our own life experiences: if you are a guy who moved on or a girl who started dating a guy recently separated (or even, started dating a guy before he had officially separated), I understand you may instinctively side with the guy or Han So Hee. If you are a girl who got tricked into dating a guy who lied about his marital status, you are bound to side with So Hee. If you are a girl like Hyeri who got dumped and then saw your ex with a new love interest, I would expect you to hate both Han So Hee and the guy whose name I still haven't memorized.
Personally, I have been in Hyeri's shoes, and I know it hurts, but it's been 20 years so I don't give a 💩 anymore. I don't hate my own ex, so why would I hate a guy I hadn't even heard of before. If you need to hate on someone, there's the Mickey Huang post where we can all hate as much as we want!

    • @Ridiculous, don't shovel your own words into my mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When and where did I call them BRAINLESS fangirls? Pointed that out and I'd commend you for being the most righteous commenter here. Stop reacting to various opinions here like a moral police. LMAO. Many visitors of this site including you seem to have trouble referring to comments by the right people, either blind or too worked-up to have level heads to even look up comments once again before spouting your hubris to make nonsensical accusation of something that doesn't even exist. LOL. You sound mostly you're among those who got mad just because I'm being blunt about disliking this guy either as an actor or as a person cos you don't stop others from defending this guy and saying he's the smartest ass among the three while also mocking those who disagree with them, but you attacked me right off by even accusing me of what I did not say out of my keyboard. LOL. The prejudice in your opinion is so blatant!

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of anyone of these three. I was indifferent to their acting careers since none of them is a great actor to me. But my inner inkling tells me that the guy was the source of the trouble maker. It doesn't matter whether he kept hushed or as loud as the other two and if he's a two timer or a borderline two timer since he moved on almost immediately. This guy's character is questionable to me. I also recalled that he as a drama actor in the past wasn't that great. I don't watch Korean movies except for Parasite that is a critically acclaimed film recognized at an international scale. That's my base to dislike this guy both as an actor and a person as well. I do feel sorry for the two gals even they took very unwise actions to make their private lives public that doesn't do any good to them both career-wise or privately.

  • Just wild to me how some of the people on here would really die on the hill of defending RJY like their lives depend on it 😂
I really just don't see what y'all are seeing because the guy is not a looker, he's a decent actor but he's no Kim Soo Hyun or Ma Dong Seok, and as we've seen with this whole fiasco, man doesn't have the best personality either. Some of y'all really have to raise your standards when it comes to men because... 💀

    • If some people can hate him, why other can't defend him?
Thank you for caring about my taste in men, but I'm not gonna date him 😂 seems hard to accept what not everyone cares about their gender or think about actress/actresses in a romantic way

  • The hypocrisy of the first comments being from the people who disliked the guy and refuters only jumped on later. Brainless haters think of this guy more than fans, but guess which ones started name-calling the others brainless first? When Koala first posted this article I thought there would be no comments at all but RJY won if haters are even clicking and commenting on his articles. Even bad publicity is good publicity because I didn't even know he had something coming out.
