More Spring 2024 C-drama Douban Ratings are Out with Best Choice Ever at 6.4 and Blossoms in Adversity with 6.7

I think viewers are being either honest or stingy with their votes but the latest Douban ratings to come out for additional late winter/spring 2024 C-dramas are all in the 6 range. Modern romance Best Choice Ever starring Yang Zi and Xu Kai came in with 6.4 and female empowerment period C-drama Blossoms in Adversity with Zhang Jing Yi and Hu Yi Tian surprisingly got higher with 6.7. The blink or miss it Yongan Dream with Ouyang Nana and Jeremy Tsui is the lowest of this batch with 6.1 and bromance investigative period drama White Cat Legend with Ding Yu Xi came in highest with 6.8. Now it feels like the C-dramas that manage to get into the 7 range are received way better.

More Spring 2024 C-drama Douban Ratings are Out with Best Choice Ever at 6.4 and Blossoms in Adversity with 6.7 — 24 Comments

  1. I watched 31 episodes of Best Choice Ever and I found it very boring. The characters are nice but boring. The ML’s arc is not interesting. The FL’s family takes too much place in the story.

Will Love Spring’s first 8 episodes were more interesting. The FL and the ML have a great chemistry.

  2. I don’t usually enjoy family dramas but found myself watching Best Choice Ever continuously, no speeding ahead. The romance is very light, but with enough laughs and emotional tension in the beginning to keep me interested. The last arc was less compelling, even though it was meant to push the emotions (illness, death, etc.). I’d rate it a 7.2 to 7.4 range.

    • @Gennita…I want to say that I love reading your comment below the first two comments! Cause the first two comments are like “Best Choice Ever is sucky” and yours right underneath is “I adore it!” It really show that most dramas will find an audience and resonate with a set of viewers no matter how seemingly unpopular it is. It’s nice having a buffet of drama choices ^_^

  3. Blossoms in adversity turned out to be decent but I don’t understand the hype. The FL was a Mary Sue, the ML’s character needed major development he never got. Acting was mostly passable by her and bad by him. Did they even find the mastermind because I sure missed it?

I still liked it better than Best Choice Ever that I am not sure I will even finish. Eh.

    • ZJY is lucky she plays likable female characters, strong roles that audiences likes to see nowadays even though they are Mary Sues in the other direction, because these roles mask her limited acting which brings no additional spark to the characters. Unfortunately our standards are so low now that she is passable.

ML is one of those replaceable actors that should have already been replaced by the assembly line of actors waiting to break out.

      • This is so true. I find myself automatically lowering my standards for Cdramas these days. She is passable, in that context, which doesn’t say much overall.

Put her in a kdramas where my standards rise and it’s not even worth talking. I wish Cdramas tried to elevate the acting skills of their actors but it’s a lost cause I think.

      • Why keep complaining about the standards of acting in cdramas when you’re just picking the bottom of the barrel idol dramas to watch? Even the industry itself despises the idol drama market and openly dismisses it like Pony Ma, Zheng Xiaolong and most recently Francis Ng. Even the idol actors themselves look down on their own productions – just look at how Yang Zi, Liu Shi Shi and Liu Yuning desperately try to convince everyone that their dramas are *not* idol productions to level up their statuses lol what a joke, everyone knows they are idol dramas. They are stuck in the idol industry because the main drama industry won’t hire them – too expensive yet lack the necessary acting skills. The cdrama industry has much to improve on but the sweeping generalisation of poor quality because international audiences typically only watch idol dramas is unfair to the rest of the industry.

      • @Guest

I am so glad you know my watching habits when you don’t know me.

I watch everything that interests me and while yes, obviously there are good dramas (the Long season was my favorite last year) overall the quality of Cdramas is much lower.

And this isn’t some sort of fan board where I have to gush about things or not post so if you are looking for that, you can go to MDL. they rate even the worst trash an 8

    • You had to suspend a lot of logic for Blossoms in Adversity even though it isn’t a fantasy drama. The FL just had a Midas touch and everything she did turned to gold. There was never actually any real “adversity” in her endeavors. The speed at which she managed to make enough money to save one of her male relatives was insanely fast considering she was supposed to start with nothing.

That being said, I still think it had entertainment value and it was a nice low-stress watch in the background.

  4. I became a fan of Zhang Jingyi after watching Blossoms in Adversity. She’s very beautiful and and charismatic. The drama is very binge-able despite several plot holes. It has the wholesome joyful vibe.

    • Blossoms in Adversity is currently my favorite C-Drama for 2024.
Great combination of wonderful FL, great character growth for everyone, and great pacing.

  5. I hated blossom diversity few last episodes, it become very random, that lady who supposes to be a villain was the real hero, the ML, and FL keep saving that evil shitty emperor and causing many ppl to die was just weird, I was like “let him just die”, never seen before an ML and FL before trying so hard to save the villain so many times

  6. Best Choice Ever wasn’t that good. The mother had more screen time than the leads and the last four episodes were all about her with again minimal screentime with the leads. The small romance we did get became almost absolute. I will say that I’m shocked that it didn’t get a 7.0 because I thought the story may resonate more with Chinese citizens.

I haven’t finished Blossoms in Adversity but the business aspect is better on there than Best Choice Ever.

    • Agreed. It’s a family drama with the Mother the star LOLOL. But I guess I must have liked most of it enough to stay with it. My sis and I talked about it the first half or big half of the drama but not so much after that.

  7. I am watching Blossoms in Adversity.

I wasn’t excited about the male lead, he’s ok – but I decided to try the drama because I was in middle of a drama drought.

To my surprise, I am really enjoying the drama. It’s the story that is good.
And each episode feels satisfying. I marathoned till I ran out of episodes at Ep 27. There are 40 episodes, I look forward to them.

I enjoy seeing the underdog overcomes type story, and also like a brave female lead.

Even if you are less than enthused for some reason, I recommend giving it a try. You’ll know soon if you are going to like it so it is time well spent.

  8. I think the ratings sounds about right. I always liked my traditional dramas more than modern dramas. Although best choice ever was okay, it wasn’t all that. I still enjoy In Blossom more than Best Choice Ever even though I wasn’t a fan of JJY.
