Tis the season for high profile guest starring in C-drama lol. Just months after C-actress Zheng Hehuizi turned a cameo in In Blossom into a career launcher from supporting to upcoming leading lady roles, now comes Yang Chao Yue to do the same again and she may succeed. Yang Chao Yue has already been the leading lady of dramas but has been dogged by criticism of her terrible acting and her last drama was the highly promoted but big flop Love You Seven Times. Reportedly that drama’s flop and level of criticism towards her was so bad that even her backers lost interest in her and for the last year she has been unable to land the same level female leads. This weekend premiered the new C-drama The Double starring Wu Jin Yan and Wang Xing Yue and lo and behold Yang Chao Yue had a major guest starring role as the daughter of a powerful and rich official who dies unjustly but not before saving the life of the female lead, who then takes her identity to return to the capital to seek vengeance and right the wrongs done towards both of them. Yang Chao Yue is the OG to Wu Jing Yan’s titular Double, and her short screentime was quite impactful – she looked insanely gorgeous, the role was super sad, and her performance was alright. Nothing to write home about but not bad at all. I quite liked it and I don’t like her at all so whatever magic happened on this set I hope in the future she can bring the same.
She is sincere ab her acting career, I watched her interview and she is from poor family,she didn’t take a piano lesson, she cant swim or ride horses, she didn’t have opportunities to take private classes like most of her peers, so I don’t think she lacks talent but she lacks experiences which are very important for aspiring actresses, with her humble background she was really lucky to get chance so I wish success
YCY lacks training and needs to take on more diverse roles to hone her acting skills and nuances…. And I think her short appearance in The Double was ok as what koala said, but it’s not particularly outstanding.
In fact the I thought the very-pretty supporting lead Liu Xie Ning did an impressive cameo in Lady Revenger Returns from the Fire.
I disagree. I do think she lacks “talent” in the sense that acting doesn’t come naturally for her. So she needs to put in more hard work through other avenues (support roles, classes, consulting with others for help) to close the gap. I think with enough effort, she can improve. Not to say she’s not already trying, she might be. She seems like a nice person and I hope that she manages to drop the bad actress title associated with her one day.
I agree. She seems quite humble so I want to see her improve her acting as well. She is also very pretty.
I can only name two or three actors who really have a talent for acting, most the others are just filling the gap with their look, hard working or doing the same kind of roles that just dont require any acting skills, talent needs to be polish by experience and training,even talented actors find it hard to play someone in love if they never experience being in love in their life, I think experience and practice matter more, even acting school now required you to you know much skill like music, sport, and dancing to get accepted they wont give a script and tell you to act

She has also pulled several fake oh I am studying to improve my acting stories only to go to a 7 day course. Internet doesn’t forget nor falls for the oh poor darling while she steals lead roles from skilled people.
Errr…I think majority of people have never had those lessons, either? Even if they’re middle class. The things making YCY standout are her face and sob story, but those things are still a dime a dozen. There has to be more behind the superficialities.
ZHHZ’s cameo was highlighted by the fact that JJY’s performance did not match up to her in terms of acting and character continuity. there was proper character work done in her limited time that it became much more obvious when jjy tried to carry on, who the better actress was. YCY’s cameo was fine but was also a very basic character so her performance doesn’t have much impact to the overall story and as limited as WJY is, she is still a better actress than YCY so i doubt it’s going to bring her ZHHZ levels of attention. YCY still needs to put in work and improve as an actress if she wants proper acclaim and recognition.
If it works for YCY, I’ll be happy for her, she took a big hit from LYST (mentally as well, it was pretty apparent that she was disturbed due to all the criticism). But I think what happened with ZHHZ is a rarity. Many things worked in her favor in that show. For one, she’s a pretty good actress. I saw one of her dramas (the very underrated but good, Ugly Beauty) where she played twins and you could tell they are two different people. Also, it helped that JJY is not as strong an actor to follow her. Plus the sequence for the 2 episodes with ZHHZ was rather dreamy. This guy who loved her for so many years has finally found her and still loves her with all her imperfections. Again it helped that the show came back to this love story very late in the run, ruining the early momentum for the same charm with JJY.
Well as a fan of original book for LYST I can safely say that it’s not mainly her fault, the script is just fucking trash. They added new character and add significant screentime for some supporting actor. This is just fucking nepotism production
I feel like each actor brought their own screenwriter when I watched it. Compared to that ycy character didn’t change much
There’s no denying she’s a very cute girl. I thought she had moments where she was ok in her death scene but she’d pull me out every time she acted like she was fine. She could barely lift herself when she was laying down and next thing I know she’s strolling through the garden like she was going for a morning walk. I knew she was going to die because that’s the whole set up but she really confused me in some parts. I would not compare her to ZHHZ considering how much better ZHHZ was and she had way more screen time than YCY.
She was amazing in Born To Run. She took the criticism people gave her and applied it. Her small performance in The Double was really good for such a small role she made a big impact. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
YCY is soo pretty. It’s my first time watching her but yeah her acting isn’t all that great but she can always improve.
When will backers stop investing in Gong Jun and Yang Mi? With a string of flops and Fox spirit matchmaker flopping hard this should be enough to open their eyes to these two talentless hacks right? Or can they sell enough units of toilet unblocker or whatever they are endorsing to their fan base to still make them attractive to investors.
Tbh,YCY acting wasn’t really that great. One could easily see that she was lacking.
But on the plus side,I’m so into this drama. It’s my new crack. 5eps flew by so fast. Kind of reminds me of Princess Wei Young,seeing that it has similar storyline.
No, she still can’t act at all.
The problem is that her acting still isn’t good. It may be good enough for a small guest role or a supporting role, but she is unable to carry a drama in a lead role.
Sadly her ego, greed for money, whatever reason, has her turn down all the supporting roles that would allow her to gather some much needed acting experience and training.
If any producer is mad enough to give her another lead role it will be the same disaster as in her previous lead roles. She was bad in LYST and she was abysmal in Journey of Chong Zi and it will take more than one small guest role to show actual improvement.
So easy to give excuses for a pretty face. She still cannot act. Lol.
I did say that there are certain actresses that seem to get less criticism than others who r harshly criticise.

YCY’s sob story is imprinted in cnets. It’s the main reason she debuted in an idol group despite not being able to sing or dance. People would root for her despite lacking in talent (acting, singing, dancing) and failing the given multiple chances.
I think the young actress who plays the maid is just as cute/pretty and can act better than her. Once she’s ready for a full time career, I’m sure she’ll be all over our screens.
Ai Mi, if I am not mistaken the teen actress named Ai Mi. I saw her in many dramas as support roles before.
Last time, I was diss YCY so much because she was really that terrible. But, in The Double, she was doing quite okay, but personally, I think if she willing to take various small roles to gain acting experience, she still has room for improvement.
Overall, just as Koala said, not bad but nothing impressive.
And so her fans wanted her to be the main character in The Double. Lol. She is prettier than Wu Jinyan, yes. But in the acting department, Wu Jinyan beats her by far.
