Well I did not follow this news when it broke last year in September 2023 but it certainly helps certain aspects of what I see onscreen make sense now. The Double is Yu Zheng‘s latest hit making drama and he’s managed to resurrect his own actress Wu Jin Yan and elevate his actor Wang Xing Yue, and I thought also found a way to shoehorn his current big future actress protege Zhao Qing in with a supporting role as poison maker and princess Situ Jiu Yue. I found Zhao Qing serviceable but for the life of me cannot understand why Yu Zheng thinks she’s has either the looks, acting ability, or onscreen charisma to be a female lead or his idea of the next big IT girl. Then news came out that Zhao Qing was AI faceswapped into the role which was filmed original with grown up child actress Jiang Yi Yi, who is very well known in C-ent as one of the bigger child actresses with over 30 child and teen roles under her belt. Last Sept a whistleblower revealed that Jiang Yi Yi was investigated for tax evasion for failing to pay taxes for 2016-2022 which is all of 6 (!!!) years. Her side admitted to it but stated that she paid all the owed taxes of over $335,000 USD and closed the matter out with the government. In her case the transgression, despite being corrected, got her cancelled since tax evasion is a sign of failed moral character in the eyes of netizens. So Zhao Qing re-filmed her scenes in front of a green screen and her face was swapped into the body of Jiang Yi Yi’s already filmed scenes. I thought Zhao Qing’s expressions at times was awkward and now I know why.

CCP used AI to fake Taiwan presidential election candidates and spread fake news to Taiwan voters. They failed to win the election for their stooges in Taiwan anyway. LOL. They did the same thing in the US and Meta (former Facebook) has been removing millions of fake accounts using AI.
I don’t care if they use technology in performing art that usually is closer to raw emotions of viewers. But using technology to manipulate and interfere politics of other countries is definitely evil.
AI Face swap just so common these days… CCP tampering with Taiwan election is definitely not surprising.. They still failed after all their effort.

I hope Jiang Yi yi isn’t truly cancelled. The tax evasion years were when she was 15 through 21 and she settled the amount with the government.
I agree! I really like her as an actress. She is really cute and acts well. Hopefully they are just giving her a short break.

I read somewhere think another blog that it was the company management that held all her finances and never paid her taxes. Her parents were wrestling to get hold of her finances. This should be the fault of the company she signed under.
So is it truly her face without editing to make it look better. You know did they tweak it a bit to make her look better because I barely recognize her even with face swap?

It’s the opposite. It’s usually non famous one that’s kind to their fans, since they really supported him when he was unknown. For the famous actors, those who follow them are usually sasaengs, hence it’s not recommended to give them attention.

Jiang yi yi is not cancelled. She still updates her weibo frequently and she was just on the variety show couple days ago. Her mom clarified to the press that her former company didn’t withhold part of her income to pay tax. Once she realized that, she paid back all the taxes she owed.
I actually like her visuals and find her very pretty…about the acting skills though I’m not very sure. She’s cute and fine in this role but it’s def not enough for me to bet on her acting skills. Nonetheless, the double has been a very enjoyable ride.
I also like her visuals, she looks like UEE before her weight loss.

I just don’t care much about her, faceswapped or not. She isn’t a major role in the Double with significant screen time. The most impressive supporting acting to me is coming from veteran actresses: Joe Chen and the actress playing psycho Royal Princess. They both did great jobs portraying the antagonists. I’m particularly mesmerized by the actress playing Royal Princess. She is pathetically entertaining. LOL. Great acting.
As to “IT” actor some visitors are so butthurt and allergic to, WXY isn’t there yet. Why so nervous as if your faves were already out of the game? Chill! LOL. But I do root for WXY to be next one if he continues with this momentum from TD and put his feet on the ground to expand his acting range. He does have an edge over his peers of 20+ in the acting department. He’s so promising with whole package except that I hope he puts on more weight. LOL.
Her good acting even makes me feel empathetic to her character in addition to the “reasons” for her temper given in today’s episode. I would like the actor playing King Cheng delivers a similar level since he is the final antagonist.
It’s amusing they aim to criticize Wang Xing Yue with aspects that have nothing to do with his profession. I did not expect to see obnoxious C-netizen behavior here, lol.
While you hope he gains more weight, I hope he avoids having pale makeup applied. There are scenes in The Double where the difference between the tone of his face, neck and hands is clearly visible.

The Double was filmed last year, he has more weight now. But I still don’t like him because he is trying to be the best actor from Huanyu and that is kinda selfish 🙄

Given that the banana hates Taiwan so much, she should have guts to abandon all her electronic devices including cell phone and her PC, and live like in the stone age since her electronics most likely have chips made in Taiwan. I’m surprised this AI face swap looks quite natural to me. The awkward expressions weren’t that jarring to me, I had actually attributed them to bad acting LOL.
AI has improved markedly compared to how it was presenting before (that fiasco with previous supporting actress in Zhao Lusi’s drama rings a bell.) This one is so natural that it’s almost seamless. They still cut corners when the actress’ face wasn’t that visible (e.g., when she turns around) so you can still see the OG actress’ body frame and head shape, which is jarring and pulls me out of focus. But this technology is both a good remedy and a frightening one, very black-mirrorish.
Otoh, I find Jiang Yiyi and that merchant Yeh cousin girl actress very similar looking? Kind of the same lips.
Yeah, their production budget isn’t much so I’m willing to overlook those and other flaws. As for Jiang Yiyi and He Hongshan, I think their head/face shape is kind of similar, but I recognise He Hongshan more due to her leaving an impression on me in The Sword and the Brocade.
