The Byun Woo Seok Private Security Inconveniencing Travelers Scandal Heightens in South Korea as the Airport Releases Statement it Never Approved of Actions in Question

One of the top hates of South Korean is when the rich/powerful/famous misuse their authority. Case in point warm nuts Korea Air heiress and her Nut Rage Incident a few years back. Last weekend’s complaint against actor Byun Woo Seok and the actions of his privately hired security at the airport inconveniencing and overstepping their bounds against travelers by checking their tickets before letting them into the lounge and also shining flashlights on people has now gotten even bigger. The airport released an official statement denying the private security’s claim that they cleared such actions first with the airport which allowed it. The airport says such behavior is not allowed and it was not told beforehand. Byun Woo Seok’s agency apologized but placed all the blame with the private agency it hired saying it never told the guards to act that way. But that has not placated K-netizens as this is on all the news networks and articles because it is seen as Byun Woo Seok getting his first rising in popularity and overstepping, and he is getting blamed for this because he was standing right there the entire time his private guards were doing this and should have stopped them. Basically the tl:dr is that even if your private staff is behaving in ways that overstep, as the star you have the responsibility to step in and do the right thing to correct them.

  • It proves he's popular now. He is not on Black Pink level but folks calling him "nugu" are funny, kinda ignoring the reality. Lol.

    • If that’s what BWS fans got out of this along with accusations of competitor PR team conspiring against him in the previous post… well… all I gotta say is fangirls and their pea sized brains has remained consistent through absolutely every celebrity, in every millennium, and every country. That’s a reality no one can ever refute… unless… you are one of those pea-size brained fangirl ofc 🤣🤣🤣

      • @Daisy Lmao. The user only just wrote he is popular now, she/he didn't mention anything about competitors. Lol. Why are you thinking about it with passion? It's paranoid. There were few comments about him being a nugu, lol. You didn't read them or you just like to focus on what fits your own narrative? Lol. It's seems you are a pea-size brained person too.

      • @Brenda They clearly are refering to the users who called him nugu or irrelevant, they aren't talking about his controversy/scandal at all. Learn how to read properly. I don't appreciate Byeon Woo Seok, not even a little, but it's funny to see users going nuts about him in both cases: defense and dislike. It seem critical thinking is not up their alley.

@Daisy Why you are linking comments from different users in order to live up your mental sceneries? You are similar to the fans you are criticizing, just read your past comments.

        🤣🤣🤣.

      • @Daisy, you should respond THAT to the users who were acting delulu. Why are you venting your anger with an unrelated user lol? It speaks bad about your mental state, overacting is not cool ;)

      • @Daisy I know which comment you are talking about it and it gave me a chuckle along with the one you responded to and several others. There is a huge controversy and some stans are basically saying woohoo lookie seeeeee, told you my guy is no nugu!! The stupidity is downright hilarious.

      • @Daisy - Did you notice how you had 3 responses within a few minutes all with rather “unique” usernames literally a reiteration of "hahaha". How curious… You’re really triggering the pea sized stan girls as you called them. Or one particular one anyway LOL

      • @Pickels@tomatoes, Shots fired.

@Daisy, I mean... imagine celebrating "proof" that your fav is no nugu amidst the general public trashing him to the ground. The icing is then ending that boast by saying its funny that antis are ignoring reality. L.O.L The irony is so thick it can be sliced with a butter knife. I adore Sunjae and BWS and have openly said so in this very blog. But I dared to say something against him so I'm now an anti too in their minds. There is no winning with fools. Just let them be off on their merry ways.

      • @angrybirds i'm genuinely curious. how do you claim to love someone and write a comment like this L.O.L.ing about them being dragged by the public? you talk about irony, yet don't see it in your own words. it's okay to criticize him, and there are many valid criticisms here, but there are just as many comments filled with hate or some bordering on hyberbole, such as yours saying he along with his company and security are "abusing their power". that's a bold claim when you don't know if he even knew what security was doing. he seems to have seen the flashlights so he should have said something about that, but does not saying anything mean he was abusing his power?

i don't think you're an anti, but you're also not a fan, and that is okay. but don't think for a second that you're better than people blindly defending him as you're using him getting witch hunted for something he didn't personally do to make a point on an internet forum.

      • @mimi, you posed legit questions about @angrybirds' conflicting comments. She was contradicting herself here and there. There are many other visitors of this sites like @angrybirds, judging without evidence or based upon twisted information. Those are just their own OPINIONS but they talked as if there were on behalf of certain authority and entitled to diss others. It's ok to criticize BWS' camp, but it's overbearing to gaslight with mockery.

@pickle&tomatoes is another one of such hypocrites since she preached somewhere else as if holding 10 commandments riding on the righteous high horse while dissing BWS's fans with mockery. She is no smarter than those BWS fangirls she dismissed. Their brain cells aren't healthier than pea-sized brains of BWS stans in their own words. LMAO

Well, I just named these two who were so extra and dramatic. @Daisy @Macy etc. etc. included. So many with excessive foaming in their mouths cos they are just not happy ppl think BWS is indeed popular. LMAO.

    • It's doesn't prove he's popular, it makes him seem arrogant. It may not have been his fault, but he didn't do anything to stop it either.

      • I guess he, BWS, does not know how to react to this situations as he is a newly popular star. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is like a child whose just starting to learn the ropes. What does he know about security works. Give him, BWS, some slack. Also, since its the airport, airport personnels are partly responsible for not doing any action on their part. They could have reprimanded the security of BWS, but they did not do anything. Sorry to the people who got hurt by the incident but do not blame the actor who knows nothing of what to do. He is not a know it all person. And maybe, we should ask him, BWS, first before putting blame on him just because he's famous.

      • @Golden Spring
You are not only embarrassing yourself, you are embarrassing BWS. The person you are referring to is a 34 year old man who has been in the entertainment industry for a decade. He is not like a child just starting to learn the ropes and who does not know about how security works and knows nothing of what to do. He is NOT an imbecile.

Unless you meant to say in so many words that BWS is an absolute idiot who cannot think for himself despite being a fully grown adult, I suggest you re-think your argument for him. In the process of trying to protect oppa, you have painted an even worse light. Let me emphasize: this is embarrassing for oppa, so as koreans would say - hajima.

    • Actually, this got big not because of him. It has everything to do with private company hijacking a public space. And not even your usual public space like parks or squares, it's an international airport that have their own security protocol. The private security have no right to ask for other people's IDs. That's why this is reported on the society section of Chosun Ilbo.

    • No one is calling him a nugu. he's obviously very popular right now. But people were saying even legit worldwide-known superstars BTS, Blackpink, and Son Heung Min didn't pull that stunt. Not even S-tier actors like Kim Soo Hyun. BWS is popular, but when you compare his level of popularity to the people I mentioned, it's really absurd for his security team to take extreme measures when not even the most popular Korean celebs felt the need to do that

    • @Pickle&Tomatoes – Well, by checking her previous replies, @Daisy seems to be more triggered than the so-called delusional, pea-size brained fans. One-line comment led her to write paragraphs. Her overkill is entertaining🤷🏻‍♀️

      • What's truly entertaining is how triggered this one BWS stan was to write multiple comments using different user names to practically say the same thing. That is what's an overkill and I say this as a BWS fan myself.

Lets be honest here, some fangirls do have air for brains. The person Daisy replied to is a prime example of that.

      • @Pickle&Tomatoes It's still an overkill for me to write paragraphs complaining about the same over and over again just because I read a comment from someone defending x artist's popularity. LOL. OP's comment was directed at those who called him “nugu”. I find no relation between OP and the fanatics who act as if their life depended on defending him. LOL. @Daisy quickly linked it to other events and believed OP was the same type of fan without valid context. I find that amusing.

      • Wait, you're the same one with the unoriginal user names... Its suddenly very obvious lol. Same writing style, same words, same cycle of argument, same checking of previous comments.

Here is my own "overkill" para added the forray before I move on; If I were Daisy, I'd be chortling to have triggered someone to ***this*** level that they resorted to writing 4 responses using different user names with the same messaging. Overkill is not the word that comes to mind actually. Desperate is more appropriate.

    • hahahahahah....hes popular only in your head..why dont you come to korea and asked the people walking around the street..only 1/10 know his name..hahahah

      • @Yin, do you asked that to ALL koreans? Hahahahahaha! He is a rising actor, wheter you like it or not. It seems his success is hurting you, that's why you are pressed right now. LMAO. Quite a circus! Try again.

      • You can gaslight yourself into believing he is a nugu or a nobody, but you sound bitter even with yours "hahahaha" overkill ;)

      • so what with that article.? every single actor has one popular drama in their life time..there even an actor which have 4 or 5..for one hit wonder to acted this way..hes showing his true colour! ewwww..

  • I think it's time to announce his next work. There's no need to dilly-dally now. Proof his worth through his work will be the only way to make people forget. I'm actually looking forward what his next work will be.

    • It's definitely not the time to announce next work, lol. Not when his name related to negative news. Maybe after a month, when k-netz will calm down, or sooner, if his agency will fix a mess.

  • In the previous article about him, there were logical criticism and good points but delusional fans were acting and attacking as if there were hate. It's a toxic culture, don't bring it here please. It's a matter of having critical thinking, regardless of how we like an artist.

I know his detractors are using the issue to trying to tear him down but it's not fair to label as anti(s) the users who were writing fair, levelheaded comments.

    • Most of new kdrama fans now unfortunately acts like kpop fans. They just had to prove their oppa is the most popular. I guess even actor fans can’t be multi fans now lol

      • International kdrama community used to be very healthy a few years back. Idk what happened, but it's getting similar to what some of cdrama international fans tend to act like. I like both c and k dramas but can't deny that I'm tired of how people act now in both hate and love for people they don't even know.

  • It is what it is now.

Where they are making a mistake is not apologising. They should have straight up apologised and not tried to shift the blame. Maybe at best add that he and they are overwhelmed and didn't make the right call in judgement.

But he was right there when even a kid was flashed and he did nothing and he could have intervened to stop that. He didn't. The more they delay a direct apology now and acceptance of culpability, the worse it will get for him. His agency is seriously dropping the ball here.

  • Sigh. This is all his agency's fault as I already said in the last topic regarding this. I blame them for not just freakin apologizing. This has now become bigger with the accusation of misuse of authority on the artist rather than just the security person/team. Now there are articles on Naver outside of the entertainment section and that spells disaster. How they let it get to this and literally burned all the hard work of the past 4 months in the matter of a day, I still dont understand.

BWS needs to somehow just pick his next drama, lay low and let this wash over. This is not at all career ending, but it seriously could be if his agency keeps screwing up. They need a refresh, stat.

  • This is exactly what a lot of people have been saying in previous post, he was right there the entire time and he could have said something especially with the flashlight situation. Being at an airport lounge past security, you’d think security would know that people there are valid travelers and not just there to be rabid fans. And his agency is to blame for deflecting the blame instead of just apologizing with no excuses.

    • exactly, that's what most people were pointing out in the previous bws article, but fangirls (including ones i thought were rational commenters) were too busy labeling everyone an "antis" and "jealous haters" instead of comprehending the situation and why the general public are upset. and that's why fangirls have a reputation for being dumb and stupid, they literally don't care about anything or anyone, only their oppa of the month. another example of fangirl stupidity is girls wanting cameron herrin to be free despite him causing the deaths of two people. now, before anyone come for me, i'm not comparing byun woo seok to cameron, as byun woo seok didn't really commit a crime. i'm more so using cameron fangirls as example of how stupid fangirls can be. they truly don't care if random people got inconvenienced or were harmed, all they care about is their oppa lol.

look, i'm a straight woman who likes handsome guys as much as the next woman, but i'll never understand that kind of crazy fangirl behavior where oppar is all that matters lol. i have many actors i admire, for their looks or acting or both, but if they did something wrong, i'm not gonna pretend that they didn't and would want them to be held accountable

      • Cameron Herrin is not good example to this situation, as I'm sure his fangirls one most of at fault for his sentence. Since because of that stupid "tik tok campaign", or whatever it was, the judge decided to make an example of him.
Even prosecutor said his sentence "excessively harsh", and after reading details that other side was jaywalking I think the same.
Anyway, if not this stupid teenage fangirls his sentence could be lesser.

      • Yup. Some even went all out in defending his agency... For fangirls, its literally black and white. You are either on oppa's side completely no questions asked, or you are an anti oppa hater who was just looking for the opportunity to take him down. The concept of being someone's fan while also being rational is not a possibility.

    • Agree with you, his agency is definitely a problem. I felt this from the mass of article that either ride or step on senior actors, to this airport problem, that agency want to prove his star power no matter what. But this is not the way. He should move to better agency for actors

  • I watched some other photos with security using flashlights, and all of them looks like security shining flashlights not on people who looking at BWS, but at people who filming/recording BWS. Maybe for others it doesn't change anything, but for me it's a big difference.
Although it's not excuse for some other things they did.

    • When you say all of them were people filming BWS, are you including the 8-9 yr old kid they randomly flashed lights on? Not that it changes anything or excuse any of the other things they did for me personally.

  • With his name getting bad press, I wonder if some of the dramas may be pulling back offers.

I'm curious as to who the security firm's other clients have been or if the security firm is just some agency executive's loser relative trying to start a security business. BWS's previous airport trips didn't seem to use these crazy, excessive measures. And I don't remember this happening for any other korean celeb.

    • whatever it was, he probably needs to put out a personal apology to put put some fires before the people offering him potentially career-making roles decide that this incident casts enough of a shadow over his image for them to withdraw offers.

Someone mentioned Lee Jongsuk's 'airport incident' from 2014 in the previous post but that wasn't even serious and imo LJS wasn't in the wrong there to freak out on being approached inside the airport by a 'fan' aka sasaeng (and arguably that was caused by the opposite problem to this case - too little security or them not doing enough, vs security going OTT like for BWS here).

  • I read this incident have gotten bigger then I originally thought. Members of public have reported the behaviour to those security team to the National Human Rights Commission of Korean. I wonder if any more will come out of it.
Looks like this case is not just web viral news...

I dont know how it will affect Byun Woo Seok... He wonder if his management company may free up some of his travels for a short while? Poor guy, just as he gain popularity.

  • This is the first time I've heard of a celebrity's private security shining flashlights onto people, how is it that no one from BWS's team think it's a bad idea? K-netz hates celebrities abusing special treatment.

Should follow those popular Chinese celebrities' footsteps, make public announcement on banning fans from coming to any non-official events such as airport, and take VIP routes and late night flights whenever possible.

      • Yeah just take VIP routes, stop doing airport fashion, and have enough security guards to form a large circle around the celebrity will do.

    • I saw one such action by Kylie Jenner's bodyguard where they were flashing lights against the paparazzi so they couldn't get good shots. I believe it was just recently? When she was already with Timothee Chalamet, that is.

This tactic is especially dangerous to some because flashing lights can trigger vision problems & even seizure to those with health concerns. Even top stars don't do these? Never seen BTS guards do this, Hyun Bin, Jun Jihyun, and other top people.

      • Yes, and in a public area too. His team/agency should just release a clean-cut sincere apology, stop the airport fashion walk and promise they will be more considerate towards the public in future.

      • To be honest, I don’t think they even need to stop airport fashion walk. The agency just needs to control the ordinary fans well by telling them to behave beforehand or just not to come. The remainings would be sasaengs can be controlled by the bodyguards. The reporters would just take photo of his fashion than film him making his way. I wonder what happened that cause this problem?

      • @Yuhyi It depends. If the number of sasaengs is too many, the sponsored clothes' fees many not be enough to cover the cost of hiring enough security guards. I'll put this unfortunate incident as his team being inexperienced and succumbing to greed over the sudden rise in their artist's popularity.
