Third Chapter of Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Sword and Beloved with ChengYi and Li Yi Tong Passes 1 Million Reservations
The disappointing run of the first chapter of Fox Spirit Matchmaker series Red Moon Pact is still shaking out the timing and expectations for the next two chapters. Chapter 2 Love in Pavilion with Liu Shi Shi and Zhang Yun Long is currently being marketed for a November 2024 release but it’s the third chapter Sword and Beloved that seems to be trending higher. I think it’s due to Cheng Yi, who honestly does nothing for me but appears to be even more popular these days thanks to his last hit Mysterious Lotus Casebook and his modern drama South Wind Knows also did decent. His female lead Li Yi Tong also has a reputation of picking good dramas, so it’s no surprise Sword and Beloved just hit 1 million reservations on iQiyi.

“Popular” is more word for him lol he’s a laughing stock on Weibo for it.
Lol we all know reservation numbers can be tweaked at the platform’s backend. All these dramas claiming to rack up millions of reservations but the views are so low when the drama finally airs.
Believe it or not a lot of people are looking forward to the third chapter regardless of how disappointing the first one was.
We shall see when the drama airs. My two cents, however, is that I’ve never heard of dramas’ subsequent seasons becoming a hit when the first season failed miserably.
aren’t the chapters pretty much standalone stories, like those Sword and Fairy dramas? I feel like the first one did so poorly, people are optimistic that it’s unlikely to get worse. Like surely, there is more pressure on this production to step it up after see the reaction to the first one. If the writing was still bad with this one, at least they can try to save it with editing.

Imagine this, you knew nothing about the Fox Spirit Matchmaker story, came across the first drama series Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact and watched it, found the drama so bad then you dropped it halfway. Then a few months later, you came across another drama named Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Sword and Beloved. Will you watch it?

I saw the trailer. Looks good. Doesn’t have the usual Cheng Ye vomiting blood and he looks gallant here. Li Yi Tong looks pretty and interesting.
I like Cheng Yi in wuxia/action. He does nothing for me but he has good chemistry with his partners. Wish they would change his hairstyle for costume dramas, though. He has Ju JingYi Hair Syndrome in ancient hairdos!
He’s had many different hairstyles. Even the one in this poster is different than all of his previous hairstyles.

In some of his dramas, he has multiple styles and his hair styles do range from no bangs, side-swept, and wispy strands (with varying poofyness at the top). And white hair (which I really hate). I think this one and one of his upcoming ones may have the same hairstyle, so the two images may be fresher on people’s minds.
This hit 1mill on 5/23 and it’s currently still rising 1.86mil. I would wait and see how this installment does. I love both artists and I wouldn’t turn a blind eye. Just like the Sword and Fairy drama’s they are all stand alone stories. But if we were to relate it to the anime Red Moon pact and Sword and Beloved are parallel to each other while Love in pavilion happens pre. I am praying they don’t butcher both stories b/c these two story arcs are my favorite.
When are they going to screen the show? Waiting too long makes me sick
