So there is movement on a C-drama highly sought after due to the topic and the production team. The drama is titled Tang Gong 唐宫 or Tang Palace and is from the production company and team of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty. It’s a Tang dynasty investigative drama with palace intrigue and episodic stories. The leads being courted is Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue and their pairing for this drama if they accept is different than what producer Yu Zheng wants to produce a drama with these two. The melon is that Bai Lu doesn’t want to keep doing period dramas and Wang Xing Yue wants to be first billed and won’t be if he does a drama with Bai Lu but both are also very interested in this drama.
Boy is he on a roll.

I’d like to see WXY working with better actresses in better projects so I hope he does it in the future. He is very young so there is time for development.
WXY’s First BIG drama as a ML released it’s first teaser/trailer and it looks pretty good. One detail that will make people happy is that it’s his voice in the trailer so I think it’s right to say he is going to do his own dubbing. He did in “The Double” and got several praises for it. I think he did his own dubbing in other dramas as well, I’m not sure.
The drama is called “Calming Waves”.
Ah, sorry Bai Lu, you are never getting out of propping up all these people until you leave your trash agency.
Unfortunately I do think it’s already too late for her. The window for better quality work is pretty much closed now.
Doesn’t she have Northward with a Magnolia-nominated director coming out soon? If it performs well, she’ll get more offers from good teams/creatives so that window is far from closed. I do agree that she needs to free herself from Yu Zheng though.
The funny thing is that 90% of her works are due to YZ and the agency. One more funny thing is that YZ build up BL from the ground until now somehow.
If YZ was a half-decent man maybe people would kind handle his insanity.
Hey, look at the bright side. WXY is at least talented.
Agree! With out YZ, Bai Lu would not be where she is today. It was his dramas and his continuous support that brought her to fame. I like a couple of her dramas, the rest are not that great.
Istg, I thought you meant Yang Zi and my mind just went??? I read on and saw ‘half-decent man’ then I realized you mean Yu Zheng lol
Got to love these comments where You Zheng built her like she had no hand in anything that is happening.
No, Bai Lu built her own career with her own talent and work. If anything YZ has been killing that career steadily.
Talk about major misogynistic attitudes but hardly new on these pages.
Oh wow, landing a relatively serious role opposite a big name actress would be a nice milestone indeed- Go Duke Su, we’re rooting for you!
I read there are alot of skin and hair loss damaged period dramas can do to artistes. The hairpiece, make up etc.. and it can be physically very tiring to be wearing heavy layers and also wearing heavy outfits in hot summer etc.
All these stress can really drain lead stars especially they have lots of scenes etc. Bai Lu have definitely done many period dramas. I really think she should take a long break from them.
I agree with you, supposedly there are even actors/actress who went for hair treatment after they done period drama to grow back their hair. And as much as I like Bai Lu, she need to rest because sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder. But then again its c-ent where new actors sprout like weed everywhere so she’s probably worried her popularity will go down, aishhh.
As a huge fan of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty I & II, I do think there is an oversaturation of investigation theme dramas, as well series set in Tang Dynasty. Not sure why the STOTD team would like to produce another one since the 3rd season is already in the pipeline — perhaps striking the iron while it’s hot! This said, the strength of STOTD is on the script & directing. It was also benefitted from the fact that the cast isn’t liulangs, so viewers mostly focus on the story.
Wang Xing Yue and his team would be insane to let this slip by over a billing fight with the female lead. A proven and quality director, script writer, and production team in a popular costume genre is rare, especially for a young actor with only one big hit.
This melon just came from BL and WXY fans protesting this casting rumor, with WXY fans wanting a normal role with some character development as he’s getting a reputation as a 5-minute lead under Yu Zheng’s management. Yu Zheng then answered he won’t give WXY dramas with a female lead anymore. Somehow, this became “WXY wants to be first billing now” when it was just Yu Zheng trolling the fans.
I guess it’s kind of tricky because he probably doesn’t want to lose momentum in solidifying his male lead status after the success of The Double. He has to strike while the iron is hot. He already has two wrapped dramas where he isn’t first billed that haven’t aired yet, a confirmed future reunion drama with Wu Jin Yan, and he’s also in the talks for dramas with Dilraba and Lu Yu Xiao. If this dectective drama is the same one Bai Lu and WXY were in talks for previously, the female lead seems to keep bouncing back between her and Ren Min. This drama would be a possible sixth drama where he’s not first billed. That’s six possible dramas that wouldn’t center around his character when many of his newly gained fans would want to be tuning in to specifically see him. He also probably wants another first billed lead role in the can and ready to air if Calming Waves is a success to potentially prove his ability to lead successful dramas. He’s been supporting in two dramas that starred Bai Lu as the lead. I’d love to see them officially paired up as leads of an upcoming drama, and this one they’re in the talks for looks promising, but I definitely understand him prioritizng being on solid ground as a lead actor first. He’s young enough to juggle everything from lead to supporting roles at this point, but the window he has right now to rise in status as a lead actor that came with the uber popularity of The Double isn’t guaranteed to come again.
I think he is first billed in Calming Waves.
@Sirey
Yeah I know, but that’s the only one of his potential upcoming dramas that is. Calming Waves would be his first drama after The Double where he’s billed first. If he can follow up The Double with Calming Waves also being a hit, I think he would want to immediately follow it up with another potentially successful drama where he has first billing. Most actors with a breakthrough like his actively try to secure lead status. So far he hasn’t done that yet. Once he’s done that, hopefully he’d be secure enough to give up first billing and even take supporting roles in the name of working in solid projects or working with equally or more popular actors. Better that than only opting for first billing and winding up in mediocre projects with mediocre casts. He’s young enough to build his career toward becoming a respected actor instead of just another traffic star. I think being cast in a strong ensemble television drama with respected veteran actors that would get more views from the general public is another route he should take.
The Wu Jin Yan and Wang Xing Yue pair was such a surprise hit (best onscreen pair of the year), YuZheng wanna push the BaiLu-Wang Xing Yue pair now. Expected
But apparently from what I have heard Wang Xing Yue has been getting loads of dramas and movies offers, don’t get me started on commercial. He is getting so busy I wonder of he will have time to dub himself in the future
I like both actors but seriously, Bai Lu’s acting is getting boring, thanks to her repetitive roles. Girl has so much potentials in her debut era but after a while, she played the same role with same acting again and again. YZ needs to give her more challenging roles.
WXY is in another hand. So far, he gave us a various roles. But they will have a great chemistry since they are friends in real life.
But if she tries something different, she would criticized as going downhill, losing her star power, looking too matured, getting lost, being too choosy, losing her cuteness factor, whatever-criteria-of-the-day as long as she stays that one-note path, but wait, then it’s back to why is she doing the same thing over and over….
I hope this casting news isn’t true. WXY should work with better actresses, not necessarily older ones. BL has been stuck with same stale acting for a long while. She needs invigorated again.
