I’ve been hearing that director Guo Jing Ming and his next stylish drama Fangs of Fortune was airing sometime in October but it was nearing the end and still no set date. But here it comes as an air drop as the drama is premiering today on iQiyi. Starring Hou Ming Hao, Chen Du Ling, Tian Jia Rui, and Cheng Xiao, the drama definitely has a love it or hate it aura that may appeal depending on your aesthetic tastes. I’m planning to check it out and hope it’s what I’m in the mood for right now.
Fangs of Fortune trailer:
The story seems interesting but the effects make it a little odd at times making it seem like a game quality instead of a movie or show quality. To the point I could barely recognize Neo but other than that not so bad. Hopefully not a tragic end. Been a few tragic dramas airing lately.
Yep, it feels so Anime-ish, this is the first time a xiaxian feels like this to me after checking it out. It aesthetically pleasing to look at like every GJM drama . I will preserve this for Christmas to fully enjoy all the beautiful colourful shot scenes it will have.

I must applaud iqiyi for sometimes dropping some of their anticipated shows like no ones business 👏.
This drama is a big nope for me. Too draggy and slow.
Contrary to the comments here, this drama is fire and is on fire. It’s already surpassed 7500 on iQIYI’s heat index in less than 24 hours, and it was barely promoted compared to dramas that contain people like Bai Lu or Yibo.
It’s not draggy, and each episode gets better when it’s rewatched. It has serious Marvel Avengers vibes to it, and the entire cast is beautiful and acts well. Their chemistry is off the charts. I’m hoping it gets to 10K on the heat index soon.
Lol heat indexes are watered by the platforms. Not a single one of them is a reliable indicator of anything. Total flops have passed 9-10 k or 30 k, depending on the platform because they use this to try and hype up the drama. Nothing except the TV ratings is valid in China. Unfortunately.
I’ll let this marinate until I see clip that interest me. At least visually it looks pretty good
My initial verdict after watching the first three episodes is ‘Not Great’ seems it’s all flash and little substance, and the tonality is jarring. The comedic bits feel out of place and all over the place.
But I’m waiting for the next few episodes to change my initial impression of it. I might end up either loving it or dropping it. Some dramas take a little more episodes to settle in their groove, I’ll wait and see.
The cinematography reminds me of My Journey To You.
And im so surprised with Chen Duling’s appearance and acting. I’ve watched her in some dramas as either supporting actress nor 2nd FL. But in here, as the FL, she’s better than my expectation.
Neo Hou looks handsome, lol. I’ve been enjoying his performances in many dramas, including this one.
The worst part of this drama isnt on the slow pace, but the 2nd male lead. I cant feel the emotions he’s expressing on screen. Is it his character or he’s just a bad actor?
And his the beloved actor of the Director. LOL
Tian Jia Rui is really good in emotional scenes based on My Journey To You. But his microexpression still need lots of improvement. Considering he just debut last year, he already did pretty good job
Have you watched this one? He was not bad in MJTY. But in this drama, he struggles to deliver the emotion of his character.
Last year? But He has appointed as top billing male lead in his next drama with Wang Yuwen… heol, daebaakk.
Im still in the first three episodes. Hopefully he’ll get improved later on.
I am actually very very loving this drama, just my vibe,i am worried like many that the GJM will shade the ML Hou Ming Hao; since he does seem to like the SML a lot TJR; and honestly I can not digest SML acting even in My Journey To You,
