Modern Romance C-drama Our Generation with Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He Cut Down to 24-episodes and Expected to Air End of July 2025
Oh I am not happy hearing this. Nothing good ever comes from big cuts to episode length, while smaller incisions could work either to slim fluff or at least not impact the whole story. Modern school age to adult romance Our Generation (Chinese title Cherry Amber) with Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He has been cut from the original 40-episodes down to 24-episodes in getting its final airing permit. Youku has also tentatively slotted it for end of July airing, currently it’s July 25th to be specific. The drama sliced a good 1/3 of it’s episode length and I don’t know how the heck all that was filmed and not needed as part of telling the whole story. What a bummer since this second go-around of these two stars after last year’s The Princess Royal was highly anticipated. I still plan to watch but will now dial expectations down.

The drama is definitely gonna be choppy unless they cut any subplot like 2nd CP (if any)
This sounds like a mess. Why would they cut so many episodes? How the heck can they make it cohesive with 16 episodes missing?
Let’s see how it turn out to be.. I think whatever it is still great..
Sigh, I was looking forward to it. What a pity…
Maybe just maybe it had too much filler? lol but personally I feel modern dramas are better in the 24-30 episodes than 40-60. I mean rarely does that amount have much depth and most often would be better if cut down. That one with Esther yu about ski seemed to have gone through a rapid cut too cause the editing seemed off and too fast in the last episode; I guess they realized how childish the theme was and cut it short. Trying to save cost and losses when broadcast? Who knows but we will know when it airs whether it is risky or not.
I know that cdramas have a 40 episode limit now, but why is the industry trying to cater to short dramas and downsizing episodes to 24-36 episodes?
@Rero @Anne: I agree that a lot of C-Dramas are too long with too much filler and would be better with fewer episodes but that only works if fewer episodes are the intent from the outset; not if a drama has been written to be 40 episodes long and over a third of the episodes are cut after they have been filmed. There’s no way it isn’t going to be noticeable.
I was made to understand that the script was only for 20+ episodes. The actual eps was only 28 cut down to 24. The number 40 was only for licensing sake.
Can’t wait to watch it. I am a fan of those two actors
It so disappointing that they cut almost half of the total episodes. It will definitely affect the drama. But I’m still hoping it will still be good and I will still watch it regardless.
