Period C-drama Cui Gu Tentatively Confirmed for Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi and Kicks Off Filming Next Month July 2025
I don’t know who is managing Hou Ming Hao‘s career because he’s had a string of female leads that are either considered weak actresses or on the rise and not much help to bring in viewers. There was Chen Du Ling pre The Glory in Fangs of Fortune, then Lu Yu Xiao in Love in the Clouds, then he just recently finished filming Glory with Guli Nazha. His next drama will likely be the period drama Cui Gu (雀骨 which is either Sparrow Bone or Peacock Bone) and his female lead is currently rumored to be teen actress Ai Mi who is all of 16 years old. At least it’s not the other teen actress Huang Yang Tian Tian who is embroiled in a family background and financial shadiness scandal. Right now it’s nearly confirmed for Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi but until filming starts next month in July then things can still change.
She is only 16yrs old!!!… She has a number of good support role on her CV already…
Hou Ming Hao is a great actor. AI Mei is beautiful but for heaven sake she is only 16. I don’t know who on earth would pair them up. What is HMH going to react in romance scenes as AM is underage
Hou Ming Hao is a great actor so pairing him with Ai Mei who is still a minor doesn’t suit if there is romance scenes. It would be awkward for us to watch. She should wait until at least 18 years old to be FL.
I heartily dislike this trend of placing teenage actresses with much older actors in romantic genre. Can’t they find someone nearer his age? She’s talented but she still has plenty of growing up to do. At least they should wait until she’s already 18 years old, for heaven sake! Even then it is still skirting the edges.
I have to agree with you.
Gross. Why do cdramas keep casting children with fully grown men in their late 20s these days. I will not be watching any romance with a child-adult pairing, that’s disgusting.
Agreed even though I like Leo Hou as a actor.
I like him too so it’s a shame that so many of us are going to miss out on this drama. I also refused to watch My Treasure with Vicky Chen for this reason even though that drama is supposed to be superb. I also won’t be watching the Princess Agents reboot. There is an infinite number of actors in China, it’s not difficult to cast someone in their 20s. And if they so desperately want to cast a minor as the female lead, then they need to also cast a minor as the male lead. This current trend is so weird and predatory.
I have to agree with others about disapproval of this C-ent trend for casting underage girls as romantic FLs pairing with adult males. It’s very uncomfortable to me as a mom with teens in the household. There are reasons why this demographic are called “minor” whose physical and mental states are still developing. With Kim Soo Hyun’s scandal being still fresh in my memory, I found this casting news very off-putting.
In each Kdrama I’ve watched recently, there was always a caveat on the opening screen that ALL the minors in the cast were treated with caution and specific counseling as needed. Should C-ent follow suit to make similar caveats too? This Cdrama can specifically pronounce that Ai Mi will receive appropriate counseling when filming romance with Leo Hou. LMAO.
I thought she was the one with the scandal at first because she resembles the other actress by a bit. Glad it was not her because she seriously has the potential to lead but I agree with everyone that she is too young yet but if they do this they will probably keep skinship to g/pg levels or none at all. Like passionate stares, handholding or hugs lol. Oh well guess we wait and see. Maybe she will be of age by the time it airs on tv. 🤷🏻♀️
Cant her agency wait until she reaches legal age?
I’ve read about an actress who always takes 2nd lead bcuz she doesnt want to take any kiss scene and she’s almost 40 lmao.
And here, a 16 y.o,.potentially romancing an adult man who’s nearly 30.
What a world we live in.
