Princess Agent’s Sequel Drama Rebirth with Li Yun Rui and Huang Yang Tian Tian Flops Hard and Gets Lowest Douban Ratings of the Year with 3.2
Sometimes the hammer of judgment does have to come down to remind production companies not to embark on a project with a slew of bad decisions. Princess Agents was a hit in 2017 and has long been discussed to make a sequel since the ending was sorta unfulfilled, but leads Zhao Li Ying and Lin Geng Xin both went on to bigger things and neither was interested in returning. Rather than leave it as it, the drama nearly 10 years later got green lit for a sequel Rebirth with new leads Li Yun Rui and Huang Yang Tian Tian, who played the younger version of the female lead in PA but is unproven as an young adult in a leading role and when she filmed this still underage at 17 years old. Once the drama premiered early this month it’s been eviscerated as awful being words. Huang Yang Tian Tian can’t act and only glares with big wide eyes and cannot convincingly play a female general, and the same terrible at acting feedback also goes to second male lead Zhang Kang Le for genuinely being a terrible actor (I said the same already when he lurched his way around Legend of the Female General as the second male lead). The story makes no sense and the directing is overly stylish and with distracting scene cuts and editing. Only male lead Li Yun Rui is coming out of this relatively unscathed as he’s doing fine (compared to everyone and everything else) though the “romance” element has been dialed down and is still icky as viewers complain him and Huang Yang Tian Tian look like father-daughter or uncle-niece in all their scenes together. Douban is also not soft pedaling this one with the opening ratings of 3.2 being the lowest this year and one of the lowest opening ratings ever for a drama. This drama will likely end up frozen under the lake after it finishes airing.

First time I agreed with Douban rating. lol I bet LYR wouldn’t want to put this drama on his resume. lol.
Father and daughter is a big stretch lol uncle and niece would seem more logical. He is not that old but unfortunately she was too young and green. Maybe this drama will stand as an example of what not to do for future drama makers. Maybe.
Looking young isn’t the real issue. She can’t act. Period!
The minutes she and the 2nd ML popped up on screen, it screamed “flop.” They were miscast.
I couldn’t find much talk about LYR online though after his breakout hit Blossom. At least, this epic flop of his recent drama may bring some attention to him. lol.
I hope he selects his projects carefully. I don’t mind him reprising niche roles. He does look very attractive in armor and on horse. He is also agile and looks convincing in fighting scenes. The contrast between his physical prowess and his scholarly appearance is incredibly appealing. lol. He should leverage his strengths to land roles that showcase his talents before he retires from idol drama. Such an unwise choice to do rebirth after a breakout hit not long ago!
