TW-actor Peter Ho Lands Six Brand Deals in Last Month After Unexpected Popularity From the Criticism of Zhang Ling He’s Makeup and Styling as the Foundation General in Pursuit of Jade — 18 Comments

  1. If anyone at fault it’s the director, he’s the one who okay the costume, make up, and the acting. Compare to Zhang linghe the director of persuit of jade has more than enough fame and leverage to make Zhang linghe follow his vision. His drama is very coveted, because he never has any failure.

  2. lol wow the fact he dressed up like that is something I would not have the guts to do. It’s just funny how all of this escalated. But yah good for him.

  3. It’s always funny to read what delusional international ZLH fans think. He is the biggest superstar in China if you listen to them. In reality he is just another idol actor and the blowback from this drama was huge. This endorsements boost to PH explains it well.

I hope they keep being delusional so that I can have my comedy materials for at least another year lol

    • This is so true. I don’t know why international fans always have this misconception that idol actors are big superstars in china when in fact most of them are only popular among their fans.

      • I think it’s more than just one thing but what makes me face palm is their refusal to listen to even the Chinese. I remember one of the rare few times I got into an argument with one of these delulus I was told that her info from IG and FB is the only correct stuff. What do you even say? And it wasn’t the first time I saw something like that.

ZLH is far from the only delulu fandom. Chen Zhiyuan is another in an almost identical situation. He’s a nothing in China. If you ask his international fans, he is more known and popular than Andy. Same for many more. Smh

      • @Lmao Some of them think they know better than C-netz, like a certain Somebody. Instead of listening to the actual majority, they try to manipulate online voices to make their minority selves seem like the majority.

    • Yeah all these international idol fans are so delusional. Their own audience doesnt even know who these people are. I barely see any of the idols always talked about here except on some ads when I head to china for work. My colleagues there all watch other types of shows available to mainland chinese, many of them have never heard or are interested in idol dramas. Yet their fans will claim they are A listers lmao

  4. PH should send a thank you note to ZLH. LOL. The windfalls are welcome! Why not? lol.

Not ZLH’s fan YET, but I’m so intrigued by all the buzz surrounding him. He remains the talk of the town. The posts generated on social media about ZLH, be it positive or negative, always invited more comments than other actors. His international following is growing, and they’re quick to defend him even when OPs try to throw shade at him. lol. Foreign showbiz media are also jumping on the bandwagon and going gaga over him.

Watching his detractors lose their cool has become my favorite pastime. lol.

  5. I am glad that there is more appreciation for Peter Ho now. He has had a steady mix of lead and support roles the last few years so it’s not like his career had been stagnating. He had his idol phase too in his 20s and then pivoted to more serious roles and a more muscular body in his mid-30s.

I feel bad the ZLH became the butt of the foundation general joke when a lot of people seemed fine with pretty boy generals the last few years. I’m a little sad that all everyone will remember from PoJ are ZLH’s funny headgear and his looks and not what an amazing job Tian Xi Wei did.

  6. Unfortunately the cockroach feelers headgear was ZLH’s idea, he said it himself in an interview. He suggested to add that and the director accepted it.

  7. LOL. We’re on an English forum. Also, Netflix’s targeted markets are outside China. So, go gaga over non-idol drama actors in Weibo. To international fans, they’re about as exciting as watching paint dry.lol.

Nothing beats the spectacle of ZLH’s detractors losing their grip. Witnessing their composure slip has become quite a satisfying routine. lmao. Watching them spiral while his career hits a new peak is the best series I’ve binged recently. These keyboard nugus are really out here doing a full-time unpaid internship for ZLH’s PR team. Talk about dedication1!!!! lmao. They’ve basically become his unpaid PR team, keeping him the center of attention while their faves gather dust on the sidelines LOL. Antis’ meltdowns are just free promo for ZLH’s fame at this point. lol. If only they put half this effort into their own resumes, I’m sure they wouldn’t be so triggered by someone else’s success. hahaha

    • To be fair, she got plenty of praise for her role but her agency wasn’t stupid, unlike his. They didn’t push her as the sudden best actress so Cnetz didn’t react so negatively to her. His agency is trying to position him as top traffic now which lol idiots.

  8. Why is this foundation thing such a big deal when I’ve watched numerous dramas with generals wearing makeup and their was crickets? Is it because this drama in particular was such a massive hit? I don’t understand the big deal it was an idol drama and nothing about it came across as realistic.

    • Same here, confused about the uproar. All actors are handsome with make-up on. I’m starting to think some men might have felt a little too attracted to him in the show and are feeling conflicted, hence the ridicule.

  9. The drama wasn’t a massive hit. I don’t know how many times people need to repeat that.

This drama was massively watered, way more than usual to the point where it started reaching numbers that were higher than Knockout or other iconic shows. At that point, netziens got furious because while they are used to fakes views, productions usually have a modicum of intelligence not to push too far.

You can easily see how few ratings it has on Douban. Real hits have even nine *times* more votes. It’s because the views were watered so much..

So nobody is jealous or whatever. People are sick of fakery so much that this drama simply pushed them over and the resentment exploded.

    • , they watered the popularity on both platforms IQIYI and Tencent (something that has never been done)? You think China is the only place people were talking about Pursuit of Jade? It was on Netflix as well; always in the top 10 in numerous countries. You can’t fake something like that. You guys like to diss international fans as if we don’t exist and are impact means nothing.

      • Yes, congratulations, now you get it. The international fans mean nothing. Cdramas are made for China and they only care about the reception there.

And yes, they watered both platforms. It’s hilarious how much netziens hate this drama but when you decide to water something so much that it skips over iconic cdramas, then enjoy the consequences!
