Period C-drama A Splendid Match with Ren Men and Ci Sha to Premiere May 2nd on Hunan TV
A new C-drama is premiering this weekend with A Splendid Match (良陈美锦 Liang Chen Mei Jin) airing on Hunan TV and streaming on MangoTV. Starring Ren Min and Ci Sha, the drama set up reminds me of The Rise of Ning and Si Jin in that slow burn intrigue with family dynamics and politic plotting with two smart lead characters. I’m not a fan of either leads but like that this is a fresh onscreen pairing and neither come with fandom dynamics to create more conflict behind the scenes, so the drama can either succeed on its own merits or slink away to the vaults of boring dramas.

Trailer for A Splendid Match:

Lol they keep trying to make this guy happen. He is not going to. Especially not with her of all people. She buried her MLs.
What do you mean with ‘she buried her ml’? her only drama that I’ve watched was the one with xiaozhan. but it was so boring that i couldn’t finish it.
She buries her dramas. Take Wang Kai and yes, Xiao Zhan. These two men had to watch the ratings drop because the audience just doesn’t care for her. They drop dramas when she gets any focus and both of their dramas gave her plenty thanks to her agency.
She is audience poison.
@Lol, he recently starred in a film with Jackie Chan and Tony Leung that is doing well at the box office. He should focus on his cinema career. Idol C-dramas aren’t goint to make him any favor.
On slow days, Koala may need to consider blogging about some vertical dramas that perhaps interest more fans than these boring long dramas. lol. Only 2-3 comments each thread? Ppl just don’t care! That’s telling.
I came across some financial news about the booming global streaming business for short dramas across SE, Africa, and South America. It has become a competition for large streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+ in these markets. Some C vertical drama actors even started to get endorsement deals from global brand names. Are any C actors not getting work? These are signs that drama fans are shifting their interest.
I’m also getting bored of Asian dramas, C drama in particular, starting to watch Game of Thrones LOL. Perhaps there’s something appealing in vertical drama?
Vertical dramas are basically makjang/telenovela fest…cringe as fuck. I prefer read a book.
Vertical C-dramas are a slop. They are just easier to digest because they’re shorter. It’s like trash vs garbage. Lol.
