Chen Zhe Yuan and Wang Chu Ran Start Filming iQiyi Period C-drama Tales of the Floating World
The idea of a tea shop sharing complicated stories of customer lives is ripe with great vignettes to tell. That is the premise of just start filming period C-drama Tales of the Floating Life (浮生 Fu Sheng) where the proprietress demon shares her special tea which brings forth the stories of her visitors, intertwined with her own tale of love and life. The iQiyi drama kicked off filming this week with leads Chen Zhe Yuan and Wang Chu Ran, and the addition of recent breakout Deng Kai from Pursuit of Jade as the second male lead. This drama casting didn’t generate too much fandom fighting or complaints but the arrival of Deng Kai has started filming off with some netizen commentary that he’s going to steal Chen Zhe Yuan’s thunder, starting with outshining him on height standing side-by-side.

Oh yes, I’ll be getting the pop corn.
CZY to me has the charisma of a wet towel, so if Deng Kai manages to do a second round of psycho killer Prince Qi Min, there’s going to be a war. Having said that, we don’t know what kind or roles they have – maybe Deng Kai is a good guy in this. And I don’t worry about the height difference – directors are used to find all kind of artistic ways to “shorten” too tall second leads!
Speaking of heights, according to their listed heights they are 9 cm apart, but from the picture where CYZ is not on tiptoes I think it is evident that one of them is lying. Maybe the shorter one, but also maybe Deng Kai: actors over 1.90 have been known to hide a few cm in order to not be considered too tall for roles.
So what is it that keeps you tied to Liu Yun Ning to the point that you have defended him here as if he were your baby? Lmao. Liu Yun Ning is neither attractive nor a good actor. Your tastes and what you criticize are similar and it’s laughable.😭😂
lol really because he is taller than him he will steal his thunder? What the heck lol if anything it is like not having the reality to say that he might out act the male lead than anything because his acting as far I have seen is pretty passionate and intense whether he is a villain or decent guy. Though as far as I have seen I’m not sure if he has played the nice guy yet even in his shorter dramas. Now whether he will be able to lead a drama fully that is another topic in general because as great of an actor I have seen will they let him lead is another ordeal. You can see Chinese entertainment be weird and wishy washy with who they let get that far. Can’t they just encourage everyone to do their best and enjoy the drama though. So silly.
Lmao cent keeps making flop dramas nobody cares about and then they act all surprised why the market is cold.
Is the director good? His prev drama Princess Gambit seems not having a good reputation. Overdo is not aired yet. Wangchuran taking double risk working with the same director twice in a row.
WangChuran resources seems not as good as other 95 flowers who have works with better scriptwriter, director, star and big IP. Maybe because she’s not from big agency like others?
Talking about height, there are quite a few C leading men who have the charisma of a funeral director, worse than a wet towel. They are even much shorter than CZY. lol. For example, scrawny Luo Yunxi.
Not every viewer watching PoJ is appealed to Deng Kai. I’m one of them. He and the 2nd FL had too much screen time in PoJ. Their flirting scenes are pure cringe. lol.
After watching a few episodes of Game of Thrones, I’m convinced that most C-dramas just look like high-end cosplay. lol. The writing in C-dramas is pretty lacking in substance. A C-drama’s success hinges on the commanding presence of its leads; without it, the production loses its primary appeal since the plots often lack the complexity of a show like GoT.
I’ve learned to lower my expectations for C-dramas across the board. It makes it much better when a show actually turns out to be a pleasant surprise like Pursuit of Jade. This one is no exception although I think both CZY and WCR have a decent screen presence.
You’re not appealed to Deng Kai because he outshined your new Chinese dog, I mean, god, Zhang Linghe.🤣🤣🤣
I’m excited for this! Like maybe it’ll be like Mystic Pop-up Bar. CZY and WCR both have great comedic timing and I hope there will be some comedic element here.
I’m glad that Deng Kai is getting recognition, but I feel like people only like him as the white-haired psycho. He’s had a dozen support roles before PoJ with little buzz that I wonder if people will still like him with black hair.
Chen ZheYuan instead of to focus on working on his acting ability was wasting time on billing issues
He is a versatile actor. If Xu Kai is considered ‘versatile’ by a certain self-crowned drama guru, then CZY is on a whole different level. lol.
But CZY is not going to perform alongside XK. LOL. Your comparisons as always lack logic and you do it from the emotional side just because you get offended when you see that someone doesn’t appreciate your faves. LOL. Versatile? What a prostituted word for you here, that’s why it’s fun to see your disappointed reactions to these flukes once your rabbling to the moon doesn’t come true.😂
I don’t think people saying Deng Kai will outshine Chen Zheyuan is purely because of height lol. Truth is, its hard to break out once you are a familiar face. Chen Zheyuan has been around for nearly a decade and has some works to his name like Hidden Love and Fated Hearts but has failed to achieve any significant popularity. This shows that audience do not have interest in him. He, Zeng Shunxi and Hou Minghao are referred to as “beta males” because of their medium height and round features; and will forever be second tier male leads.
