It’s really unfortunate what happened this past week with popular C-stars Dylan Wang and Shen Yue and the variety show program The Inn. The cast made two jokes towards Dylan during the ending awards filmed three months ago and when it aired and his fans were upset at the jokes, Dylan went public that he thought he was just being sensitive but he did feel uncomfortable then. Shen Yue then publicly apologized and explained the background behind the jokes with logical explanations but she also just said she was so sorry he felt bad regardless. Public sentiment was towards Dylan initially but quickly turned against him – that he would post in the middle of the night knowing his fandom has a history of going after his female costars rather than privately discussing this with his colleagues especially Shen Yue who has been his friend in real life for 8 years since they filmed Meteor Garden. That he did it publicly in such a way is what is causing the backlash. Dylan has since lost followers on Weibo by at least a hundred thousand while Shen Yue is gaining followers. The two also unfriending each other on Weibo is very sad as even industry insiders are saying the friendship is over due to Dylan doing what he did especially in Shen Yue’s apology which came across as genuinely surprised and felt bad that Dylan felt bad about the jokes so whatever Dylan was feelings he should have just talked to his castmates directly.
