Ji Chang Wook Reported to Owe Billions of Won in Taxes After Government Audit in Continued Crackdown on High Earning K-stars
So the tax evasion or owed additional taxes issue that has embroiled a few K-stars this year alone, including Cha Eun Woo, Yoo Yeon Seok, Lee Min Ki, and others, can now add Ji Chang Wook to that list. It’s being reported that after a recent government tax audit concluded it was deemed that he owed billions in unpaid taxes, reportedly from the declaration of income from acting, endorsements, overseas activity and more that were reported by his personally set up agency rather than himself as an individual. This has been the recurring theme now with so many stars once they set up their own agency, and ostensibly their taxes are being handled by accountants and this is likely the conflict being very aggressive reading of the tax code versus how the government interprets it. His agency has said this is not tax evasion and any additional taxes will be paid, it’s simply a disagreement between how the taxes are assessed and calculated and will be resolved.

He is hitting his new career peak with colony which has been sold to 120 countries and blockbuster at korean box office. But this now? Why these rich people don’t pay taxes? U r still being left with millions. Good luck losing all those cfs.
hes making too much flopped drama to the point he need to evade the tax..thats the fact!
Don’t worry, he’s a man so he’ll be fine. Men very very rarely get cancelled, especially handsome ones like him. Look at Cha Eun woo back in the spotlight now like nothing happened lol
Oh, truly groundbreaking stuff here! I asked Gemini to explain why South Korea has been aggressively hunting down celebrities for tax evasion, and my brilliant “AI friend” blessed me with this absolute masterpiece of a high school essay LOL:
Oh look, another masterpiece of economic planning from the progressive geniuses! Because letās face it, left-wing governments really do share the same single brain cell, don’t they? South Koreaās economy is practically wearing a snorkel at this point, gasping for air. Sure, the stock market got a temporary, artificial high, but letās thank the global memory chip shortage for that accidental miracle, not any actual economic skill from the top.
But the glorious leader’s treasury is running dangerously low, and he desperately needs to fund his utopian fever dreams. What is the absolute fastest, most low-effort way to fill that giant fiscal crater? You guessed it: tax the wealthy! Truly a groundbreaking, historic strategy that has never backfired before. Groundbreaking stuff, guys. Truly.
Huh? What are u even on about? Lol. So u dont think people, especially the wealthy should pay their worth in taxes? You make it sound like the korean government is doing some dirty deed by getting people to pay up what they really owe, all governments the world over has a tax system in place btw. This is not some nefarious dark plan by the korean government to crap on the celebs u know. and of course it’s the rich and the solo businesses that always conveniently or accidently under declare and have to pay up.
Governments aren’t always right, specifically progressively lef-leaning regimes! Didn’t you read the response from his agency? They claimed it’s primarily the disagreement between his accountant and the leftard Lee Jae Myung’s admin about how taxes are assessed. lol. Left-wing economic policies frequently rely on increased taxation of high-net-worth individuals and large corporations to address budget deficits. This approach reflects a fundamental mismanagement of the economy that risks driving away capital. It’s been happening to China. Now SK is following suit. SK’s president is stupid. lol
Hopefully this case is like Yoo Yeon Seok’s where the government messed up on their end. the government always eating the people but can’t do their shit right to the people.
At this point, as long as they pay back the taxes and any fines without trying to delay and without insisting they don’t owe anything – I won’t hold it against him much. I do hope that the fines for owing that much money are huge so there would be a disincentive to read the tax code in such a way. There are enough cases now that I feel like the industry can come up with a guide and flowchart.
Is his the highest owed? I donāt remember reading some one owed billions. š³
Us working class pay our taxes. Sorry but I will never get aa rich individual that doesn’t pay his/her taxes
