New Posters and First Trailer for Royalty Makjang K-drama The Remarried Empress with Shin Mina, Joo Ji Hoon, Lee Jong Seok, and Lee Se Young
I never really thought it was possible to adapt webtoon The Remarried Empress identically into a K-drama what with the fictional European royalty setting yet here we are, with the first look trailer for the Disney+ and Hulu streaming series dropping viewers directly into that backdrop. And you know what, I’m game for it and really open to this being watchable rather than cheesy. Shin Mina plays Empress Navier, more a capable spouse than a warm wife who finds Joo Ji Hoon as her Emperor husband Sovieshu taking on a calculating low born concubine Rashta played by Lee Se Young and leaving her embarrassed and discarded. But never fear, in romantic fiction land she’s immediately got a new suitor in Lee Jong Seok as rival kingdom Prince Heinrey who isn’t just charming and younger but also has magic powers and can turn into a bird lol. I find all four leads looking great in character and the costumes and visuals whole a tad dated and overly staged is still decently brought to life by the charisma of the stars.

I know Joo Jihoon’s character is supposed to be the bad guy but he’s so darn smexy I don’t care!
So is this description accurate to the manhwa? I knew it was popular but I never tried reading it. I thought it was political revenge with a touch of adultery. Never would have thought a character changed to a bird. Got to admit I’m shocked they tried keep the setting along with the fantasy too. Normally they change eras with stuff like this. Plus the fact it literally looks like a Disney princess movie with those posters. Joo ji hoon as royalty again. Though I would have liked it better if he reprised his role from Goong along with surviving cast again..lol wishful thinking.
It is accurate. It seems like they’re pretty much sticking to the mahwa’s core premise.
What surprised me more is how production managed to get all four stars—each leading actors in their own right—together. It’s a manhwa I wouldn’t have imagined in live action, let alone with these four. I like how Ju Ji Hoon and (in particular) Lee Se Young are open to villain-ish roles here.

Not a fan of the lead cast, and the plot looks unexciting. Plus, Asian faces in a European royal setting? Lol.
We’ve got koreans doing shakespeare theatrical productions, so why not this?
Looks better than I would imagine. If this proves successful, it could open the door to adapting all those webtoons with faux-European settings – albeit on on smaller budgets. Disney is trying to get a jump on netflix and prime. I do wish this wasn’t funded by a streaming giant.
The four main cast members could also become memorable as the first ones of a new drama genre.
