There are iconic roles that actors and actresses can only aspire to play because it gets immediate name recognition. But its a two-edged sword because the role is so defined in the viewer’s mind that it’s either hit a grand slam home run or anything else is considered a failure. Case in point – Xiaolongnu in Return of the Condor Heroes, so ethereal and the dream of a million men but also such an impossible image to portray. Reportedly Tencent is readying yet another adaptation of RoCH for production later this year and the female lead the platform has penciled in is Dai Lu Wa, who thankfully is known as a face card in C-ent, i.e. she is a visual, but I also know she’s going to get scrutinized to the Nth degree once its confirmed. After Moonlight Mystique she definitely has shown she can do cold, icy queen and also that she has the acting chops and onscreen charisma. Whether its a wise move to tackle an iconic character is unknown but there is a long list of successful and failed Xiaolongnu before here to use as lessons learned.
