Call it timing or just twice is not the charm, currently airing period C-drama Tigers Sniff the Rose with Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui is probably getting more coverage for how it’s not doing well than anything else. The story of a bossy princess and a beta-male scholar doesn’t appeal to me and on top of that I’m not into either lead so this was the drama I would never watch anyways. But the leads first go around in Blossom two years ago is still talked about as it was a genuine dark horse hit that year so having them reunite was a no brainer. But maybe this drama plot and set up is just not working for audiences because the viewership after premiere has going gone flat to down, and is close to flirting with flop territory among C-drama airing metrics. I also think having Where the Mask Ends airing at the same time and being a certified hit doesn’t help Tiger, as the comparisons are naturally there and the competition for viewers. At least this drama not working out will end all talks of having Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui do a third drama together (oh thank the lord), and reportedly their attempts to do CP promos for Tiger have been not gained any traction either.
