So the promos for Disney+ drama Vigilante is all on the shoulders of the cast other than male lead Nam Joo Hyuk, who has enlisted in the army earlier this year. Never fear though because it’s a packed cast with Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Joon Hyuk, and Kim So Jin, adapted from the same name webtoon and arriving as the next K-drama on the platform after the mega hit that was Moving. I love the atmospheric day and night posters which show policeman Nam Joo Hyuk enforcing the law and vigilante Nam Joo Hyuk taking the law into his own hands. The drama previews look great so hopefully Disney+ gets another hit and keeps on producing more projects.

I need to restart my Disney subscription! This gives me Healer vibes, only Yoo Ji Tae is playing the villain this time. I’m sure Lee Joo Hyuk will do just fine as the other villain.
American investors know what genres of K drama would appeal to international fans. Here we go with another exciting action one! I wasn’t the one for any action, fantasy, or mystery films when younger. I liked artsy movies, mostly produced by British, French, Italy, and other European film makers. Hollywood wasn’t up my alley. But after years of killing time in theaters as a guardian for the juniors from my family for Marvel and star war series, I learned to appreciate these genres that are more targeting at male audience. LOL. Now I’m so much anticipating any K productions of these genres. It’s not for everyone. In particular, female fans may find these types of films too graphical. I agree. Nonetheless, once you find the excitement to enjoy wild imagination and suspension in the actions of fantasy/mystery dramas, other genres may more likely appear too slow and boring. I appreciate artistic films like Anna and social justice stuff like Extraordinary Attorney Woo. But I also enjoy a great deal of action genres like Moving. With increasing investment from the West, I’m glad that K dramas has got beyond the past Hallyu that was mainly focused on melodrama and romance only. This is how great a filming industry should be – expanding the horizon with more interesting genres to appeal to wider audience. K drama is walking towards the right direction !
I do still like some french, british productions , Astrid et Raphael ( french serie) was produced before Attorney Woo , and one of the leads is autistic, another one is L’art du crime which is about crimes in the world of art ( Louvres), both are good and relaxing at the same time , not to mention a new version of Agatha Christie’s novels which i love . BBC classics still masterpieces for me . Before i used to only watch korean romances, melodramas but since a few years i find myself enjoying more criminal, justice, fantastic dramas , Signal, Through the darkness, Life on mars, Live, my liberation notes are dramas that still lingering in my mind . I tend to begin a romcom and not finishing it . Perhaps i’m becoming very very old . I already watch 2 episodes of Vigilante , it’s classic with the same topic or subject about law versus a kind of empathic human justice .Kudos , Yoo ji tae is in this one while his wife Kim Hyo Jin is in Castaway !
Another french drama which is very good and darker ” Les invisibles” all the dramas i mentioned have great ratings in France . But if you are searching for eye candy leads , you’ll have to pass !

This! I remember commenters here arguing that kdramas have lost their touch and are no longer “wholesome” but “westernised.” I disagree. Those “wholesome” romcoms are still being produced, and many of them will be airing soon/next year. With kdramas now tackling a wide array of genres, it’s helping them be taken seriously on the world stage and attracting more viewers of dmeographics, which has been pretty successful thus far.
Those who commented that Kdrama is not trendy anymore and has been taken over by C drama were making spurious claims according to their personal preference of C dramas to K dramas. They did not have business/financial data to support their points, however. LOL.
K drama has never been so successful and popular worldwide thanks to the investment and promotion from big streaming companies like Disney+ and Netflix. Western capital is always looking for good investment with promising returns. Those big companies have never fallen short of resources to do marketing researches in order to find where to bank. They have sharp visions and are shrewd enough to make good business decisions on investment. Just looking at how well received K-ent including Kpop and Kdrama is around the world nowadays and how those largest American (also global) entertainment corps have been actively promoting K drama, any ppl with common sense about business world would instantly get the idea how well K drama has been doing globally. That’s a fact, not tailored to personal preference and attachment of specific groups of drama fans.
I don’t think . Theses dramas are produced by national channels . And the ones that Netflix bought aren’t the best !

Exactly! I would be interested to check this out if it were available to me, but no way I will subscribe to any US streaming sites for K-dramas, no matter how good they are.
For the record, I have KBS, SBS and TVN on my TV subscription, there is not a single drama worth watching on these anymore, when these were my main channels a couple years back.
Why not cancel those Korean subscriptions but subscribe to Netflix instead? Is it not that affordable? I took a long hiatus from K drama since “Healer” era to focus on my career ladder. I didn’t pick up K drama again until 2023. LOL. But I found K dramas have made a quantum leap in production values since 2014. Back then, K dramas appear to only cater to very limited demographics who mostly love romcom and melodrama. But now, K drama can deliver productions with world-class quality. Good to have a long hiatus and back with such an exciting surprise!
Yeah I agree. I admit old-school dramas have their own charms and I still rewatch some of them, but a lot of them really are cringey with the Cinderella tropes, wide-eyed kissing scenes, wrist-grabbing scenes, amnesia sh*t, heroines with no backbones, etc. I prefer the wider range of genres now and, as you said, better quality overall

I definitely will at least check his dramas. I’ll watch if the plot is up my street and drop otherwise. Unlike many C actors’ works, I don’t even bother to take a look. LOL
