So I feel like we can’t have nice things and just try to enjoy it. If C-drama The Legend of Shen Li turns out to suck I’ll totally say so, but so far the promos have looked good but the first wave of criticism is here. This week Tencent released the first big preview since announcing the premiere date, and unlike the teaser released six months ago this preview has Zhao Li Ying dubbed. Reportedly Zhao Li Ying recorded all her own dialogue on her own dime in the studio to dub this herself but the production ended up going with the professional voice dubber, which I find the wrong choice because the voice doesn’t match Zhao Li Ying at all. But it’s not a decision she can make so I don’t know why the criticism on her that an actress at her level needs to not be dubbed. I’m just going to ignore the chatter and wait for this drama to arrive next Monday and decide for myself yay or nay.

I mean the ML is dubbed too LOL and he’s actually dubbed by the dubber that I don’t like – think of Yang Yang with his moments of bad acting, that’s how I feel about this dubber with no emotion in his voice acting. I’ve heard ZLY’s real voice before, but she does get dub most of the time. Anyways, it seems sketchy…Can ZLY really dub the WHOLE drama only for the team to be Like ehhh let’s scratch the plan even though ZLY had already finish dubbing the whole drama when they could have had her do some small segment voice trials. From the trailer, it states that ZLY’s a producer…Does she have no say over this drama as a producer?…
The newest trailer is disappointing, it looks like it’s only showcasing its special effects. I don’t feel any emotions watching it either, everyone looks either calm or stone-faced.
I agree with u Lilith ,it all about the special effect, every one look stone cold, maybe it goes with the narrative of the story. Coming Monday we tell.

I think they tried to show more effects because people were commenting that it looked cheap. The platforms are kinda fighting for people to watch it there so its been a lot of shenanigans. Hunan combined Princess Agents trailer with Legend of Shen Li and started airing PA again. Iqiyi created a separate tab for Zhao Liying . Tencent is on the lead with 7 milliion reservations. The only good thing is that we get a lot of promo material.
@Lilith @Mercy Those are my thought exactly. It is just so disappointing to watch so much CGI and so little acting. That is just on trailer.
But I will definitely watch this…not a fan of anyone, but will watch for storyline.
I’m always on team no dubbing, I have much more respect for those with no dubbing. Half the acting comes from the voice, IMO.
Even more so for an expensive production, there is no excuse for dubbing. I think the criticism is justified.
I have no interest in the drama, just expressing my view about dubbing.
Im also team no dubbing. It gets creepy when a few actors have the same dubber.

I believe it was ZLY’s decision.
She got enough Power to decide what’s better for her and make it happen.
This drama went through at least 3 rounds of post-production processes after The Last day of filming it.
IF I’m not mistaken, ZLY is one of the executive producers.
It will also surprised me if she really had no choice in this decision making process… She is not the actress 10yrs ago
LGX is dubbed because he can’t speak standard mandarin besides having very bad line delivery.
IF my memory does not fail me, I remember seeing people saying ZLY is kind responsible for his casting.
I did research and ZLY is really a executive producer so she got to decide many things in TLSL.
I kept seeing this drama all over my Facebook newsfeed. I hope it’s good, nothing good out this year yet. I don’t mind the dubbing. Actually prefer some actors to use voice actors for period dramas. The first time I’ve watched Lin geng xin was in this movie called Swordmaster. I really enjoy that movie and thought his acting was good. I really like that old HK style vibe! Anyone knows if that is his real voice?
The criticism is completely valid. Getting dubbed is seen as unprofessional and even many younger actresses get mocked for that. Zhao Liying is a senior actress and as far as I knows she even invested in that drama. The audience expects more from someone with her level of experience and the fact that she keeps marketing herself as a serious mainstream actress only makes it more disappointing.
For ZLY’s dramas, I usually would at least check it out. Not this one. ML already turned me off, let alone sloppy and very boring CGI. Why showing more weakness in the trailers? LOL. Just judging from the image of promo stills, the only watchable face is that of the 2nd ML. The age gaps between him and the ML or ZLY are so obvious that can’t even be unseen from the photos. Photoshop and editing doesn’t even help. LOL. Ok, if ZLY is a producer, then congrats on her for career advancement. But why did she choose to cast herself as the FL in such a Xianxia project that neither she nor LGX is still visually fitting to this genre? What are their roles? Parents of some gifted fairy prodigy? That would be more convincing. LOL.
Her character here is a superwoman but I’d rather see a Mary Sue instead of a incompetent/weak/damsel in distress female lead.
why dub the Ml when he sounds great? Can’t their contract state only can use their real voices?
As much as I love ZLY, I still think xianxia dramas do not suit those aged 30 and above. Its a genre for young people. With that said, at least her character isnt the overly cutesy type so I’ll give this drama a try and hopefully it won’t be too bad.
This the best C Drama that I have watched ever!!! So much romance between the male and female leads. Such high quality acting introduced me to two actors that I are now my favorites!!!!! Kenny Lin stole my breath away!!! So did Liying Zhou!!! I loved the story and the costume!!! Both actors were so beautiful!!!!!
