The Story of Pearl Girl with Zhao Lu Si and Liu Yu Ning Confirms November 1st Premiere on Youku and Drops New Posters and Trailer
This Friday is this day, the start of November and the arrival of big budget C-drama The Story of Pearl Girl. Youku will hold a press conference with the leads in the days prior to the premiere and drum up more interest, but it’s been spending loads of ad money with giant billboards in cities and buying up searches to keep buzz high. The drama stars Zhao Lu Si and Liu Yu Ning with second leads Tang Xiao Tian and Xie Ke Yin and tells of a servant pearl diving girl and her empowerment journey overcoming danger and adversity to become a top jewelry merchant. It’s also the first of the batch of Tang dynasty dramas on deck to arrive so start getting used to the high waisted gown and hair up look on the ladies.

I am low-key looking forward to it. I like both leads and the story seems promising enough. Let’s see if the direction + everything else is decent.
I will also be checking Esther’s drama, although I am not a fan of Ryan Ding’s visuals. But she looks super cute and I think the premise sounds fun. Hopefully the production will be good and not just rely on Esther’s cuteness.

I’m seeing on weibo a huge bunch of people criticizing ZLS for her voice, line delivery and for her acting which they funnily call it as Korean style of acting. I can’t unsee it now.
Why would they use korean style adjective to mock her? korean actors have better acting skills than most chinese actors
Its because when you think of Chinese actors, you are thinking of the young actors who act in idol dramas that’s popular among international audience, while in C-netz’s minds, their actors refer to non-idol actors like Wang Kai and veteran actors like Yu Hewei. C-netz prefer more nuanced acting and find the Korean style of acting too exaggerated.
I am not sure why certain people keep bringing up Esther Yu here. These are totally different dramas, where Zhao Lusi’s seems way more serious in content. So some will enjoy one, some other but idk what the point is of tying them together. It is silly. And I am not even a Lusi fan but come on.
lusi is following yang mi footsteps,a lot of brand endorsement,but no improvement in acting as evidence in the last immortal.hopefully the trailer is wrong and her acting improves.in short follow zhao liying model.

And why comparing Lusi to other actresses?
I think, Lusi did a good job in choosing scripts. She didnt let herself being trapped in the same role again and again. She went from a cutesy to a demure.
On 1st nov, definitely give this drama a try. The other one isnt my cup of tea.
