Ju Jing Yi Gets Top Billing in Director Guo Jing Ming’s Next Drama Painted Skin with Chen Du Ling as Co-female Lead

The battle of the dual female lead billing has appeared to have a decision. C-actress Ju Jing Yi will be top billed over co-female lead Chen Du Ling in director Guo Jing Ming‘s next drama Painted Skin. The male leads will be Zeng Shun Xi and Tian Jia Rui but no one cares about that haha. The billing makes sense from a popularity standpoint as Ju Jing Yi is way liuliang volume over Chen Du Ling and this year had a smallish hit drama with In Blossom. Filming is reported starting at the end of November and the drama is slated for late 2026.

Ju Jing Yi Gets Top Billing in Director Guo Jing Ming’s Next Drama Painted Skin with Chen Du Ling as Co-female Lead — 24 Comments

  1. If Fangs of Fortune was a bigger hit CDL might’ve had some leverage but i guess ultimately in terms of sheer celeb power JJY has her beat

  2. She is one actress I never warm to. But her visual are definitely popular with locals.
The photo above makes her looks slightly different…

  3. It’s a bit silly of CDL’s team to fight for top billing. JJY still has more popular shows compared to CDL. Both almost same age but JJY has led in more shows than CDL.

    • It flopped.
I see complaints about line delivery and action scenes being too slow, too many BL scenes, incoherent storyline etc.

I kinda wish JJY and ZSX choose a different drama. Because apart from them, the whole rumored cast for Painted Skin is just a 2nd Fangs of Fortune and it looks like another flop in making.

  4. They prob let Fangs of Fortune to air first and see its reception. But ultimately it flopped so I guess Chen Duling wasn’t able to use it as her leverage.

  5. I like Chen Duling but her team is quite delusional to even think she had a chance at first billing again JJY. Yeah, Duling was in two of the biggest hits last year (Mysterious Lotus Case Book and Till the End of the Moon) but her character was minor to the plot of both and she had nothing to do with why the dramas were so popular. JJY has had multiple hit dramas where she was the FL; so why would anyone give first billing to someone whose biggest success was when they played supporting?

TTEOM was popular coz of Luo Yunxi, Bai Lu… I think Deng Wei was festured more than CDL. And I don’t see how impressive she was that she could push aside a more popular actress.

I wonder if CDL has more followers than JJY’s 29 million weibo followers…. Maybe she has??!!

      • Sorry left out @shan
Anyway well I guess CDL must be the muse of the GJM. So he might step on other actresses to give to more screen time to CDL.

It’s a risk to take on this production as he may sideline JJY like what happened to her in Blossoms and Sword & Fairy.

    • Her team put out so many articles against Bai Lu claiming that she eclipsed the female lead. Maybe they really did believe in the marketing hype they created. Fangs of Fortune’s flop should bring her back to reality.

    • JJY was the original female lead for Fangs of Fortune. But she rejected it due to her conflict with iQiyi and went to Youku for Qian Xiang Yin. If anything I think GJM has long wanted to work with JJY since ten years ago where he asked if JJY wanted to film his movie. Besides, CDL herself is kinda side-lined in Fangs of Fortune.

Got it! So is JJY fortunate to miss the role in FoF?

Does GJM have any favorite actors or actresses ….like how Yu Zheng keeps promoting Bai Lu and Ju Jinyan under his agencies…..

Sorry JJY has confict with iQIYI? Like contracts or something? I read that JJY is being sued by her previous agency. Hah they refused to let their golden goose go away. ….

So much hype about this FoFshow, I was thinking of watching it. But having three dramas at the same time is too much for me. I wanna watch both Esther yu and Zhao Lusi… but now I have to choose….. hmmm

      • Idk. Qian Xiang Yin is yet to air so we dk how well it would do compared to Fangs.

GJM has a set of supporting actors he uses for every single drama – Tian Jiarui, Lai Weiming, Xu Zhenxuan, Yan An. These people + Chen Duling will again star in Painted Skin.

JJY offended iQiyi when she called them out for letting Chen Zheyuan get away with the billing issue for Sword & Fairy 4. Yeah but JJY counter-sued her agency for faking her signature.

Honestly you should just try 2 eps of each and see which one you prefer.

      • @lol
Thank you! I checked out your list of GMJ’s supporting actors and they are indeed a bunch of good looking actors. Some are even picking up supporting lead roles…

Wow Chen Ze Yuan’s team really worked hard to get him top billed. But it was done sneakily ya… I am surprised that iQIYI would do that to JJY. I also hope to see her unharmed from the recent conflict with her former agency.

Okay as what you’ve advised, I will check out the shows.

Also, I just noticed Chen Du Ling in main lead in The Glory (adapted from the web novel “The Reborn Noble Girl Is Hard to Find” (重生之贵女难求) by Qian Shan Cha Ke)
and He Hong Shan is supporting lead actress… wow they are really elevating CDL big time.

By the way, I happened to watch episode 1 of Dawn Amidst Hidden Clouds (2024) starring Yu Zheng’s new IT girl Zhao Qing and Chang Hua Sen. Needless to say, I am more interested in this new guy even though I dunno anything about him as I’ve yet to watch him in Are You the One. But too bad, Zhao Qing still doesn’t impress me, whether it’s looks or talent.

  6. Well, we all know CDL can run laps over JJY in acting. No loss to anyone if he gets a worse actress to star in his dramas. It’ll just prove to everyone how much of a crapshoot he already is.

  7. The glorification of mediocrity. Cdramaland working its hardest to make a mediocre and shallow “actress” big while a lot of trained ones are struggling in the darkness. Even though I like money and I agree each production deserves its return of investment still everything need a brake and balance. The reign of quantity the reign of mediocrity
