Zhao Lu Si Holds Birthday Concert for Fans and Announces the Official Return of Her Personal Studio Office
The full return of C-actress Zhao Lu Si from her hiatus after trying to end her agency contract is getting closer. She celebrated her birthday this weekend with a concert for fans and with it announced the restart of her personal agency office which is very common with stars. I like to think she had a game plan when she went rogue and blasted her agency over the summer and then deleted her Weibo, otherwise she was playing a dangerous game and could end up in cold limbo. But now she’s reportedly going to announce her new agency signing in a few days at the celebration party for her last drama Love’s Ambition which did much better in reception than expected.
I used to like her very much, but, I don’t know why, now I can not bring myself to watch her work anymore. Maybe it’s all this drama with her agency, maybe it’s her new face, she just seems like a different actress.

She is EXTREMELY popular, more popular than I’d ever realized. Among all her dramas, I only got to finish two dramas – Love like the Galaxy and Hidden Love (with fast-forwarding a bit for the latter). Nonetheless, I have to recognize she’s gifted with acting range and very strong/charismatic presence.
Love Ambition, although not up my alley at all, has very high viewership on all official and illegal streaming sites. Last time I checked one obscure and illegal oversea streaming site, LA has been viewed by tens of million ppl, surpassing #views of Legend of Zanghai and Joy of Life 2, closely following all-time #1 ranking, The Knockout. LA also received high rating as good as The Knockout in the oversea Chinese speaking communities. I observed throughout international Cdrama forums, her fanbase may be way larger than I had imagined. Ppl talk about her more and perhaps watch more dramas of hers than my own fav’s. She is perhaps more well known to more international drama viewers than my own fav.
Like her or not, ppl should not deny her immense popularity that’s certainly translated into how well she has navigated through the down season and came back with a huge market success. At the end, that’s all investors and top management in showbiz want regardless of how controversial a celeb is, namely, commercial values;she is profitable. To the disappointment of many ZLS’ antis and naysayers, I think she more than likely will continue a successful streak for a while given how many hit dramas she’s already had under her belt? Per how successful she’s now, I can’t help but compare her with her senior actress, Zhao Liying. She may be on the way to ZLY’s path. Those who dislike her may as well just go find peace watching and praising their own favs’ works instead. They are simply wasting time mocking her and wishing her flops LOL. It looks so hopelessly desperate. LOL. Why turning entertainment into self-inflicted torture? LOL.
She does remind me of a young ZLY. I believe she’s the most popular c-actress/or right now for int’l audience, way more than your fav. She’s pretty, young, charming and honestly all the things that happened since last year has given her more coverage than any marketing can do (bad or good). It rallied not only her fans but gen public to support & root for her.
Yup! Not her fan, but I’m not gonna lie. She seems more well known in the international Cdrama fan circles than my fav who I think is more popular than her in China instead? Both of them have very staunch fanbases that might explain why they both survived huge fallouts in their career to come back with even more elevated status in C-ent.
@Somebody, just my speculation. I suspect there are plans to create a bigger Zhao Lusi Brand, not just a actress. For her generation in China, I dont think there is any female as popular as her. With her new makeup and more mature styling, she will be endosing for more products. She will pace her acting job along with her brand development.
@HL, I’m not sure if she has ambition to venture out into other enterprises. I simply recognize she is perhaps the most popular C actress of her gen. I watched a few eps of Love Ambition and couldn’t continue cuz the genre isn’t up my alley. I doubt if LA would have been this successful if the FL had been someone else. The drama is very ordinarily old-school TBH.
I am a huge ZLY fan and you’re totally right about that comparison. I can’t wait to see how ZLS’s career develops.
She’s soooooo good at acting, I’m happy she has the chance to continue, but I hope some good scripts with actually talented actors are on the horizon. I finally watched (fast forwarded through haha) “Love’s Ambition”, and she’s so good at emotional expression, it’s insane. That drama only really worked because she was really convincing in the role. On a related side note, her face is mostly normal when they don’t do glam makeup on her, so I hope they tone down the makeup to match whatever story she’s portraying. It’s whatever if they want to style her that way for red carpets or events, but because she was already an outlier beauty before she got super work done, now that she has the work done, they need to tone down the makeup styling when she’s doing her actual job of acting to match whatever character she’s playing. Just hoping for ONE good story from her in the next 5 years. Lol
I wonder if she is venturing beyond acting? Looks like we will see more of her going into singing, lots more CFs. The more investments she gets, the more products she will have to sell. But to do CFs and products endorsement is not as hardwork as filming for half a year. That may be suitable for her. I am just speculating base on this concert she staged. No offence intended.
