Lost You Forever Chapter 4: Gathering is the Hardest, Parting is the Easiest — 54 Comments

  1. Gahhh!!’ I refreshed for the 10th today and it’s here!!! Thank you! My Chinese totally sucks so I can’t even navigate chinese sites to find a Chinese Ebook online 🙁 if it’s not too much trouble, do you have a direct link to the Ebook online so I can try slowly reading it?

  2. Thank you for another great chapter! 🙂

I didn’t expect to laugh, because I was so sad, but is Jing Ye prettier or Lan Xiang? Haha.

I’m such a huge fan of Shi Qi now that this chapter was mildly agonising, esp when Shi Qi had to let Xiao Liu go when Xiang Liu came and I smiled when his lips turned upwards and Xiao Liu didn’t get bitten.

But, I’m rooting for Xiao Liu’s happiness in the end. She’s such a good soul, despite that bone deep loneliness in her I love that she never stops reaching out to people even though it hurts.

  3. This blog is going to be dangerous for me. I’ve already been sucked into IAGW, but at least i can get subtitles for that. If you ever stop translating this book I’m going to be screwed. I’ve already searched for English translations of Tong Hua’s novels and came up unsuccessfu. Is it too mean to hope that you don’t find any crack dramas in the near future so you can just focus on fishing this? Would that be bad karma, or is that paying it forward for everyone here?

  4. Thank you for the translation, and quick translations for the chapters at that! i feel so sad, that Shi Qi is gone. I have come to like him. I have a question though: Will Xiao Liu’s powers ever come back? As far as I understood, she is immortal and a Goddess or a Princess, right? Is she immortal or does she have a longer life span? She can be killed, or am I wrong? I am just trying to understand the nature of her powers and her world. What happened to her family? Aren’t there any people from her clan or family who come looking for her, like they did it for Shi Qi?

    • There are no immortals.

Gods live for hundreds, thousands of years, and possess spiritual powers.

      Humans are like us.

There are animals, and some animals can develop thought and become sentient beasts. Some beasts are considered evil and unclean, and they can become demons after even longer training. The most powerful beasts and demons can transform into human and god forms.

Xiao Liu, Shi Qi, and Xuan are all Gods. Xiang Liu is a very powerful demon.

    • I love how nasty and uncouth Xiao Liu is, too!

And how come no one is pointing out big bad demon Xiang Liu named his winged ride Furball? XD How can anyone take his mean side all that seriously after that, and after he takes Xiao Liu for a night stroll in the middle of the freaking ocean to show her the moon rising?!?!

      • The night stroll scene is definitely the first time I see a warm Xiang Liu.

Did Xiang Liu come find Xiao Liu that night because he was in a bad mood? Xiao Liu asked that question but he did not answer it.

      • So far liking Xiang liu is just liking psycho. I mean he’s unpredictable, one minute he’s saying stuff like how life precious, and the next hurting Xiao Liu cuz she’s just happen to say a wrong thing. This OTP is not working for me, it’s like sleeping with enemy, one would never feel in peace.

  5. I just finished reading the first book and let me say that Xiao Liu is one of the best female leads I have read in Tong Hua novels. She is absolutely endearing. And as much as I like Xiang Liu, I think Shi Qi has owned my heart. Despite his physical scars, there’s something so precious and somewhat innocent about him that I can’t help but fall for. I’m here to join the bandwagon of giddiness! :)))

  6. I have some questions too. Why does Xiang Liu suck Xiao Liu’s blood? Is it because he needs her blood, it makes him stronger, or show of his affection?

Also who is stronger, Shi Qi or Xiang Liu? If Shi Qi decided to face Xiang Liu, what would happen?

Sorry. This book is so GOOD and interesting!!

  7. I’m glad she shape shifted as a male and her true identity is hidden bc with all the gods and demon sexiness, they can appreciate her for who she is. I got a feeling once her identy is revealed, ppl (gods and demon) will try to claim her like an object since she is practically royality to all the kingdoms. It also makes me wonder the parentage of our male leads – I hope no one ends up as a lost cousin of XJ bc that would be kissing cousins especially if it turns out to be the couple that im shipping

  8. Awww many thank you for your time to translate Tong Hua’s novels! I’ve been following since BBJX. From the first few chapters I agree that she’s one of the most interesting female lead 🙂

  9. Sooooo good! My new addiction! Ockoala, first Da Mo Yao and now this AMAZING story!!?!? Thank you!!

I’m completely rooting for Shi Qi! Silent, gentle, supportive and whose (almost) always there when Xiao Liu needs it! Love how much Xiao Liu’s anger affected him and how he promised her that he’ll always be there when he needs her from now on! Every time Xiao Liu talks about her loneliness and having only a temporary companion, I’m so excited for her to fall in love with whomever of the three male leads, and them spending the rest of their long lives together, happy.

Koala, can you explain this: Was Shi Qi really tortured, on the verge of death !!!, over inheritance? Is this inheritance in terms of wealth, i.e., makjang korean drama, or something else?

  10. Hooked hooked! Thank you Captain K! Yes can someone please explain is Xiang Liu sucking Xiao Liu blood to cure himself or is there more to it. Confused! Please help explain.

  11. Thank you so much Koala!
And yeah, I agree with another commenter that you just (accidentally?) revealed you ship the heroine with Liang Xiu. hahaha

So far, I like the different atmospheres Xiao Liu x Shi Qi vs Xiao Liu x Liang Xiu give off:

Shi Qi: Simple, unwavering. Almost familial closeness. The kind of closeness developed by seeing each other and accompanying each other everyday; the kind that some people don’t appreciate until they lost it. They’re so comfortable with each other it feels like they have a silent understanding. Their interactions give me warm, melting feelings.

Liang Xiu: grandeur, passion, dysfunctional. At times gently romantic (like the moon stroll on water), at times ragingly potent (he hitting her, she willing to get hit). Their interactions make me go gah, hyperventilate; heart beats. Fleeting but fierce.

It seems like Xiao Liu talks and shares her story verbally more with Liang Xiu; they have all the expansive romantic scenes. While with Shi Qi, she is mostly silent and shares the little, every day things with. Most people don’t appreciate that, but both of them give meaning to it.

It’s so good that Tong Hua can give life to different types of romance in ONE novel. Making the readers swoon at just one type of love (say tortured love, unrequited love, possessive love, etc) would be mastery already, but TWO or more? Tong Hua is hella good at her craft.

Can’t wait to find out what the third love feels like. My prediction: the fated but cannot be, ruined by political agenda kind of love.

  12. I think the illustration from chapter 1 is the description of Xiao Liu and Xiang Liu’s moment on the ocean with full moon.. Is it right? hehehehe…

Ps: Xiang Liu reminds of Dong Hua from Three Lives Three Worlds: Pillow Book both of them have white hair with handsome features..

  13. After binge reading until 4am last night and spent the whole day today, I only got to Chapter 15. Reading in Mandarin is slow business for me but this story is oh so rewarding. I can’t even pick a bloody ship! Can’t she just have a harem with Shi Qi adoring the ground she steps on, Xiang Liu being a sexy cocky bastard and Xuan being her soulmate?

    • This novel turns readers crazy. People are either wanting a manrem for Xiao Yao or fans of two of three male leads going insane.

      • I spent the whole weekend reading all 3 volumes of the book… It’s just amazing.. And how can a book has such awesome heroine and three unique male lead… I was torn as in who’s my favorite and who the heroine should end up.. But at the end.. It really doesn’t matter who end up with who… I know who my favorite is and he totally has my heard… So when ms ockoala is ready to discuss her shipper.. I’ll be so there to share and can’t wait…

Just also want to say thanks for translating the book.. U r just so awesome for doing that!

      • I totally can’t wait to see who you’re shipping as well Koala! I’m on to book 2 now and while one of them has my heart, I’m still torn between all three of them!

  14. Ok, where do I start now. This may be long post.

Right now I’m bashing my head as to why I started this as I’m hooked now and no matter how quickly Koala translates I’m not sure it will be enough.

Is it too early to discuss shipping as I know which ship I’m on.

I get Shi Qi and Xiao Liu’s relationship and it is clear they have a different set of understanding. Whereas the Xiang Liu is the one that intrigues me. I know he is mean and horrible and rather blood thirsty but somehow I find myself more and more curious about him, his back ground and his story. I noticed in the second chapter that his condor was called Furball and still find it quite amusing. Xiao Liu and Xiang Liu also have another plane os interaction which only they understand. I loved the scene where Xiao Liu was looking at the mirror with Xiang Liu’s image on it. I think you all know which ship I’m on by now.

Xuan on the other hand I can’t seem to sense him at all. I know there is more to him and someone, somewhere said that he and Xiao Liu had known each other in the previous book so I guess more will be revealed as the story goes on.

What I’d really like is more information about these Gods and Tribes and the setting as I have a feeling it will be crucial in the coming chapters. Like isn’t Xiao Liu meant to really powerful so where are her powers and why does he not defend herself, etc.

    *Frantically wishing for more chapters*

  15. This chapter made me cry… all that Xiao Liu’s longing for a companion…

Shi Qui totally gives me Yoon Pil Joo’s vibes… the perfect second lead…

And I can’t help it, but I find the scenes with Xiang Liu so smexy…

Thanks for all you hard work translating this, Koala.

  16. I’m loving this novel so far. I’m left impatiently waiting for each new chapter. Thank you, Koala, for translating this. 🙂 But since it’s a sequel to Once Promised, do any of you know where I can find the English translation of it?

  17. Even though I have promised myself not to get on any ship, I cannot help but veer towards Shi Qui more. There’s something pure about the love and respect he has for Xiao Yu. It isn’t pretentious and it leaves you yearning for more.

The end of this chapter brought a twinge of sadness to me. Like a foreboding and I just want them to be happy together.

  18. Thank you SO SO much for translating this book! I was never a huge fan of period dramas normally so I was surprised that once I read your translation of the first chapter of this book how hooked I was to novels. I quickly ran off to read your translation of Da Mo Yao! I loved it and devoured it quickly! Now I can’t wait for more chapters of Lost You Forever (not trying to rush you or anything ockoala …I think we’re just lucky that you’re translating this at all)! I think to help tide me over until more chapters come out I’m going to go marathon read your translation of “Yun Zhong Ge”!

I think I’m going to like this book more than the others because I love mystical stories with gods and demons! But it seems like it’s going to have a heart wrenching ending which scares me. Hopefully even if it may hurt…maybe it’ll hurt so good I won’t be too upset.

Right now I’m shipping Shi Qi as I love the devoted type and it seems like he’d never leave our heroine lonely again and would give his life for her. But I am also intrigued by Xiang Liu but I can’t be on his ship yet because he was so mean earlier…but we will see as the novel unfolds.

I so far have not much feelings good or bad about Xuan. He just so far seems kinda bland compared to the other male leads but I’m sure that will change.

I am totally in love though with the heroine and her adorable “family” members! They care about each other even though they act all aloof and tough as if they couldn’t care less.

Thank you again for this crack.. Umm I mean novel!

  19. Oh good to see fellow shippers……I am on the XL ship too….they actually have the most intimate scenes so far…..how many times he gave her love bites already????? And he hasn’t seen her as a WOMAN yet…He listen to everything she says…the loneliness, the time being capture in a cage…I think I am a sucker for all these naughty-sensitive type of male lead. But seriously, if not cos we already knew he is a SHE, I find it a little GROSS with all the man-on-man affections..I marathon all the 3 books….I cannot agree with Koala that this is TH best book….Really feel that she is doing a big Fan service after “slaughtering” us in Once Promised

  20. Thanks Capt K, for spoiling us again and again and again…but i find myself getin greedier for new chapters…lollll…thanks CAPT K, thank you for your hard works to share with us this fantastic story…not to mentioned the previous other books…can’t thank you enough

  21. I love this chapter, I feel that we are getting into the meat of the story.

I am trying to appreciate Xiang Liu, I still can’t wrap around their relationship, which I feel at this point is highly dysfunctional, violent, erratic and unbalanced in power. I feel more worried for Xiao Liu whenever she encounters Xiang Liu unless Xiang Liu in the future reveals his inner self and consistently is good to Xiao Liu. He doesn’t have to change his passionate and daring nature, but just that we get a sense that his actions does not harm Xiao Liu.

Shi Qi outshone himself in this chapter. Although he is genteel and refined on the surface, one ought to remember that he is not soft and not weak. He has a steely inner strength and brilliance intelligence to overcome an episode which nearly claim his life. He is cultured but not shallow. He chooses purity but is not naive in the ways of the world. He has keen perception that understands situations and people, both said and unsaid, and mastery over self control.

The episode where Xiao Liu teases him with the prostitute and pushes his self control further by trapping him against the wall and asking him whether he wants what the other couple is doing, his eyes were laughing even though his demeanor was calm. Xiao Liu perceives that he knew and he understands as a man should and she reddens and pushes him away.

Normally I prefer outspoken guys but Shi Qi is winning me over with Tong Hua’s depiction of his character.

I am also enthralled with Xiao Liu. In her form as a man, I would have fallen hard for her.She is smart, brilliant, ingenious, harbors some kind of deep seated agony, works like a manic sometimes and totally relaxed and unconvnentional at times. I love her grubbiness in contrast to her lofty personage as a princess. I love her pushing the boundaries of individuals, forcing them to confront their own worst enemies. I even love her moments of melancholy, showing that she too needs friends and people to take care of her. We all know that she is a big hearted person, able to see beyond the surface to appreciate the person for who they really are, e.g. Lao Mu, Tian Er, but her petty plottings of vengeance on big bullies like Xiang Liu cracks me up.

I could wait for Koala’s next chapter translation or I could take my dusty Mandarin out of the drawers and try to read, a daunting task. Both unenviable.

  22. So happy we got chapter 4… The main male leads are being revealed little by little (their background and all) and it’s hard to pick as we get to know them…

I think I am starting to have a liking already! Thank you for your hard work! 😀

  23. I do not speak nor understand chinese, as English is my main language. Thank you for the translation and introducing Tong Hua. I only heard about her due to BBJX. I had seen the Drama, I love it to pieces. Please please do not get tired translating this Novel till the end as I am hook now. My sincerest gratitude. Have a great day!

  24. This chapter was bittersweet to me. I’m happy Xiao Liu forgave Shi Qi and I love all their scenes together. I’m dad now that they will be separated and his life will be in danger again.

I still font get Xiang demon guy. Their relationship is so dysfunctional and I always fear for Xiao Liu’s life when she is with him. And I can’t believe he almost sucked all of her blood dry and didn’t even help when she fell down several branches. She couldn’t even walk! And I cringed when she was curled up in a ball waiting to be hit, that isn’t hot to me. I hope he has some redeeming qualities before I completely write him off.

  25. yup, xiang. demon guy is scary whereas shi qi is always there for her. i love d teasing scene. im wondering if this becomes a drama, i hope they cast a real girl acting like a man, like. one of ella’s drama in taiwan coz if it’sa real man doing those intimate scenes like the sucking i would look like a boy boy relationship eventhough u say it’s just a fake identity.

  26. Wow comments here are from 2014 And now is 2023 Lost you forever is very popular now♥️ i just want to confirm so the person who pays and negotiate with Xan tianer is CX and not XL??

  27. Thank you for translating. I watched the series in Thailand. Didn’t fully understand the hidden meanings. I re watched some episodes with English subtitles. Understand little better. Reading the translation, understand it a whole lot more. I am so addicted. I treated this like a school work. I even have a diagram of all the name of the characters, town, kingdom. I’m really to take my quizzes, now.
