Of the two breakout K-drama male actors last year, namely Jang Ki Yong in My Ahjusshi and Woo Do Hwan in The Great Seducer, this year both are in higher profile drama lead territory and I’m curious to see who picks better projects. Jang Ki Yong will arrive first with OCN thriller Kill It, pairing up with Nana as a contract killer searching for his past crossing paths with the detective tracking him down. The lead character posters are out and I love how stylish it is, framing Nana and Jang Ki Yong in moody blue and purple and then a contrasting one in black with eerie reds. I’m getting more and more excited for this drama despite not being all the interested initially, it feels like a fresh casting with a network having a solid track record on thrillers.
He just needs more luck and a good script.
I am surprised to find out that Jang Ki Young, Woo Do Hwan and Yang Se Jong were all born in 1992. 92-liner trio is formed.
Great visuals. I will check this out 🙂
Hope the scriptwriter is on to it and doesn’t disappoint because with the cast on board it’s all down to the story. That said OCN has a hearty reputation so I guess they’ve got this. For me try and go easy on the romance and tease it out so that we the audience are literally hanging out for some kind of intimate moment between the two.
I don’t think there will be much romance in this coz it is promoted as a thriller drama. OCN is not a channel for stories with much intimacy, like Save Me.
you guys should see him in the drama called the boy next door, its only 15 episodes (5 min). Its hilarious and Choi Woo Shik is in it xD
Is there any comparison? Jang Ki Yong definitely is better than Woo Do Hwan. WDH went down as bad as the same level as Joy in The Great Seducer (forget that the writing is bad but his acting was equally cringey), thus made me realized that he probably not ready yet to headline a drama. I have faith in JKY. Whether this drama will be a good one or not, I trust he won’t let down with his acting.
But WDH was fantastic in Mad Dog and Save Me (his break out role) so I’ll let TGS pass. Both him and JKY are exceptional and talented plus very handsome in my opinion.
That’s why I said, he maybe still not ready to lead a drama. WDH shined as second lead but lacking charisma (yet) as a leading man. In contrast, JKY already proven himself that he is worthy as the lead actor.
Well he got a role with Park Seo Joon in the movie ‘The divine fury’ so he must be doing something right. It’s just that TGS really stunted his flow after MD and SM so hopefully this time around he’ll prove his worth to be co lead. That said if it goes pear shaped for whatever reason I’ll be the first one back here waving a white flag.
I’ve honestly had no interest in dramas since Sky Castle ended but this is seriously piquing my interest. I can’t wait to watch!
