Arthdal Chronicles 2 Confirmed with Lee Jun Ki and Shin Se Kyung as New Leads, Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ok Bin Returning, and Production Starts Filming This Month in August with 2023 Release

Holy roller coaster take off, the production of Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 went from talk, talk, in discussion, coming soon to FILMING RIGHT NOW in the span of a day. The production team confirmed today that the script reading has taken place already and filming starts next week in mid-August 2022 through at least the end of the year and the drama is likely to air in 2023. Confirmed also are new leads Lee Jun Ki and Shin Se Kyung taking over the same roles as first season leads Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won, with Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ok Bin returning to reprise their roles. I’m guessing there will be an aging up to explain away the change in leads but either way this is happening. Also returning are the screenwriters but a new director will be behind the camera, PD Kim Kwang Sik who is a movie director with his biggest hit The Great Battle (Ansi Fortress) and has not directed a drama yet until now. A few days ago Lee Jun Ki posted a picture of himself running outdoors with the caption Ready 4 Next and he looks fit as heck with those leg and arm muscles goodness is new Eun Seom/Saya going to look like they went to the marines and came back.

  1. I like these actors, I’ll still miss the original leads from the first season though. Even so, I’m open minded enough to give this second season a chance since at least some of the supporting actors are the same and the screenwriters haven’t changed, thankfully. Excited to see Lee Jun Ki’s portrayal. He’s a terrific actor. And Shin Se Kyung is a favorite of mine, most recently in Run On, so looking forward to it overall. Thanks for sharing the news! The first season was phenomenal.

  2. The first season was really bad. They talked about a time jump, so the part I was expecting in the first season, Eun-Seom reuniting the tribes (and not be caught by them each time…) won’t be seen on the screen.

I hope LJK won’t do the same mistake than Nam Goong-Min in The Veil. The muscles were too big (and not very attractive) and completely useless in the story at the end.

  3. I personally feel something’s fishy. I had a feeling that the original cast has not been approached for the roles, they have been replaced. I think production don’t want sjk to work on this again. Remember, when first season didn’t work they blame sjk for low ratings because of his divorce so may be producer thinks sjk might drown this season. And if sjk is not doing kjw doing this will be awkward for audience so replaced her also. If any actor is approached for work they give confirmation of their acceptance or denial. Every actor does that. There is no news from sjk and kjw’s side that means they are not approached. Sjk is going to start new project this month only same as arthdal, that means he was not actually busy he could have done this first and kjw is also not doing any project from months and no news for next few months means she’s free too. It’s all done by production I guess from all the info about AC.

  4. Previously when I first known about the drama, I was hesitate whether watching or not The appearance of the people in the drama are so weird. It’s consider historical. Because of SJK and KJW,I watched the first 2 episodes and I had dropped it. Now since my favorite actors are taking over, I need to watch the complete season 1. Excited LJG and SSK are excepting the roles. Good luck to them and the production.
