Oh what a relief for the entire production involved for ambitious revenge K-drama The Glory, written by Kim Eun Sook and starring A-list actress Song Hye Kyo. The drama premiered it’s first season 8-episode drop on Netflix last Friday December 31st and over the weekend got to #9 on the Netflix worldwide rankings. Earlier in the week debut J-dorama Alice in Borderland 2 is at #4 globally so it’s a good week for Asian shows. Even better are the solid reviews for The Glory – tight script, great dialogue, tense directing, and good acting. Some K-netizens complaints are a split reaction on the two leads chemistry saying they don’t have potential romance vibes and look like aunt/nephew, Lee Do Hyun delivering the same performance as all his priors, and Jung Ji So doing a better job than Song Hye Kyo in her teenage version of the female lead but it’s just a direct comparison and overall even K-netizens think Song Hye Kyo is back to being a good actress after her last drama lackluster performance.
Back to being a good actress? I don’t think anybody ever thought that. This drama simply plays well to her limitations.
It’s difficult to watch because of the subject matter but I’m looking forward to part 2. I do agree that SHK has zero chemistry with LDH… looks really good with YJ’s husband though!

To me SHG has always been mediocre in everrryyy character she ever acted. nothing changed. watched 2 episodes with toothpicks in my eyes to keep it open. didn’t work. from anyone else, would’ve laughed it off but Rina likes hating on every popular k person – legit in every comment is a high and mighty I am better than ya’ll vibes 😂 imagine announcing with such authority that no one thinks thought SHG is a good actress simultaneously as fans go gaga everywhere about how ,amaaaazing’ her acting is. both SHG fans and Rina are the same level of delusional lolz.

Her acting is just average and if she wasn’t beautiful she would never gone this far . I know that she has a hard fan base but i watched her In ” Full House” 20 years ago and i found her cute . But dramas have changed and solid performances are needed . She always has the same kind of expression in all her dramas. When you see someone as Park Eun bin performing so well in different roles ,SHK didn’t make any improvement since years . It’s a fact . But if producers , directors …like her , let it be . She is loved , she may be a good person .

I skipped 95% of the bullying violent scenes. Thank you Netflix for dropping all 8 episodes for us to marathon! Script, Dialogue, Directing, Acting-has been solid so far. I’m loving the clever dialogue and that adorable housewife character. The amount of humor injected was just right. This role suits SHK, who has always given cold, steely vibes, perfectly. I’m seeing some nuanced acting. And I really appreciate her almost bare, minimal make-up look. It’s just more convincing that way. Here’s hoping the latter half of drama is just as good if not better than these last very well done 8 episodes.
I really enjoyed the show. The feel of it reminded me a little of Park Chanwook’s Vengeance trilogy.
SHK’s acting is miles better here than in NWABU, though that isn’t saying much. She’s still playing another variation on the same character archetype she prefers – stoic and emotionless female – but there’s a lot more depth to Moon Dongeun. Here, her deadness really works for a character that’s dead inside. Hope SHK goes full psycho in part 2. MDG is teetering on the edge of a breakdown.
The younger antangonist was frightening to watch. The antangonist’s husband is HOT HOT HOT. I had to stop and go Google him.
It’s definitely better than I expected. SHK finally picked a role that’s more challenging – it’s been a while and she delivered better than I expected anyway. Nothing outstanding, but pretty good.
The chemistry tho, is seriously so lacking, it’s plain awkward at points. LDH needs to pick roles that aren’t different name, same character.
I am not a die hard fans of song hye kyo but I watched almost all of her dramas and I like her acting, as for her previous drama NWBU, I agree that was her worst project. Other than that, including The Glory…are great and worth watching. About chemistry with young actors, when it comes to her..people always comment bitter..not sure why..there are tons of dramas abd films where the leads have big age gap..for me, she has good chemistry with her fo stars despite any age gap..but I hope she will work with an actor among her age next time..like she did with jo in sung..hyun bun..rain bi.
Also..hoping for rom com for her next project.

Such a salty comment. She is very good and nuance here. Give this character to a lesser actor, it can be overbearing either underacting or overacting . This is the acting you should show when you act as anti hero/heroine in a revenge tale. Not a lackluster performances who lack fire. It’s help her character is so straighforward to her enemy about her motive, so she can be spiteful without hiding it.

Binged watch this today. Material and acting are really good. kudos to the team, especially to song hye kyo for picking a new genre. The bullying scenes are heartbreaking. I also agree that song hye kyo has better chemistry with the construction boss/ husband of her enemy than the doctor. The doctor looks and acts too green while the boss has this mature calm in him.
What i dont like is that we have to wait for march for the next 8 episodes and its conclusions. It just kills the momentum
SHK acting is much better than expected, but that’s not saying a lot. Her stoic way of acting finally met a script it’s called for.
What’s with too many voice overs? It sometimes take me out of the scene.
Her younger counterpart is a better actor but Song Hye Kyo definitely did very well with her role. Yes, its a plus that the role in a way is within her region of strength but she does add a lot of depth. Supporting cast is stellar. The villains are very well acted. Lim Ji Yeon especially is doing fabulous here. Overall I found it to be a very compelling and entertaining drama.
Finally! The long wait is over.. loved how SongHyeKyo portrayed Moon Dong Eun.. deserving for an award here. The chemistry with yeojin’s husband is insane. There’s certain connection you will just need to take a deep breath everytime they had an encounter.. There’s tension I forgot that Lee Do Hyun is her partner though this is a revenge drama and no romance included..10/10 for me
What a Shame, her fans are celebrating that Glory beat reborn rich which was no.1 drama in both television and Netflix for month. They are only bringing more hate for her. Rather than celebrating her achievement they are celebrating his loss.
From what I saw, they are celebrating that she got praised for her acting while her ex got a lot of criticism for trying too hard to look young in RR by constantly pressing his lips and opening his eyes wide to act innocent. The lips pressing was even a hot search and heavily criticized on Weibo.
I will be hated for saying this but at some scenes I thought she was trying hard to emote because of botox. No offense to her fan she did great compared to her last drama.

I thought the actress in Eve was better at the whole.i hate you I wanna revenge theme and she did look anemic. SHK is not expressive at all. This suits her since she’s supposed to be expressionless but then her eyes supposed to betray her emotions. I’m not sure if that’s called subtlety but she has always been mediocre. Some scenes are unbelievable tho, like the body kept in morgue wince 2015?
I can’t even watch her previous drama due to poor acting and plot both her and JKY just terrible. I can’t understand why she even agree to do that project.
Just finished The Glory what I can said the drama didn’t even reach climax just yet. Its more like introduction of every characters. Same goes to SHK performance here she didn’t even showed her real emotions yet. She was calm and quite stoic but sharp. She didnt shouting like typical psycho others actress will do to portray the character. SHK not great but she is good. I understand the criticism before but I can said this is probably one of her best performance after TWTWB.
I watched the show and droped on ep 2 not because it was bad, but it’s something which is not worth my time ( i personally feel). NO OFFENSE! everything is good about this drama but there is nothing new. There r so many dramas on bullying, bullying+ revenge. Just last month we had weak heroes. It’s just another revenge drama only. Honestly- SHK – ACTING IS NOTHING NEW, she has always acted like this from some pervious dramas Cold,dark…. Etc etc it’s just that her acting style sits best on this genre. I believe she should do more of dark roles it suits her well. It’s like that writer offers her a role which fits best with her image. And drama is good as it should be. So it’s like if you watch:good, don’t watch it:read the summaries of episodes – it’s same thing. And the ending is also we all know- she will win at the end. Offcourse 😂 she should! Otherwise there is no need to show the brutality of the show. I think violence- is the factor which makes the show works. Brutality in the show is the audience magnet – audience getting sympathetic towards the mc is main point of watching this drama for every streamer. Same thing happens with me- when watching extraordinary attorney woo young woo. I dropped it after ep 12 because I know what’s coming next. Not bad thing but both these dramas had a pattern which make them watched or not- same thing.

This seems to be Song Hye Kyo’s best received project in at least a decade judging by the reaction. I wonder if she might finally get some acting award nominations or even wins?
This is one of the best kdrama’s I have seen in a long time. Fantastic writing and flow, art in motion cinematography, exceptional acting from all the cast ( especially SHK since I am a fan of subtleties in acting as a poses to obvious over acting). Looking back I found myself anticipating her scenes the most especially with the female helper I found their interactions endearing. She had good chemistry with the ML but she had crazy chemistry with the husband lol. Tell you the truth I would not have watched this drama if it was not for SHK since I am not a fan of violent revenge dramas but so glad I did. It’s now #7 now here in Canada. Best of luck to the entire cast and crew.
