So this drama synopsis may seem wonky off the bat calling leads Xu Kai and Yu Shu Xin of Sword and Fairy, the Chinese Paladin 6 adaptation, as siblings but it’s not cuz they are actually blood related. The story kicks off when both awaken at the same time in some random town with no memories and set off on an adventure together as a pair to find out who they are. Along the way comes friends, foes, and falling in love. Together their names form the Chinese title of the drama Qi Jin Zhao so she’s Yue Qi and he’s Yue Jin Zhao. Tencent released new posters and a long preview this week and followed up with the announcement of a January 18th (today!) premiere so I am so excited and cannot wait. Love these two and hopefully will also love them even more together.

4 eps are dropped today. I like it that the plot moves really fast, and there many interesting characters popping up, friends or foes idk, as I don’t know the game source. Those that don’t like Esther don’t even need to check it out, she is the exact same as in LBDAF. I like XK here too, he is more natural acting with Esther.
Esther Yu’s voice made me cry. I think I managed to hold on for about twenty minutes. Torture.

Apparently this was filmed before LBFAD, so…there was less emphasis on her voice back then. I think she got a lot of backlash for her real voice, so maybe she will dial it down more when she dubs herself for the drama with Ryan Ding

It was filmed AFTER LBFAD. The Booting Ceremony was August 2022 while LBFAD aired August 2022.
The baby voice she uses is not her normal voice. During a live show, she forgot to fake her voice momentarily, and started to speak in a normal sounding voice. Then she realized that she is speaking normally and changed back to the baby voice. Even people on stage noticed and it was caught on camera.
I dont understand why is baby voice popular?? So odd. Maybe it is like the old fashion Japanese manga cute girl characters.

Thanks for the comment about her acting same as in LBFAD. No need for me to waste time checking this drama even Xu Kai left me a positive performance in Wonderland of Love. I already felt exhausted and life was boring after watching Blossom Shanghai BS. LOL

Lolita LMAO. ahahaha. The style of BS isn’t even consistently good, let alone being mesmerizing and therefore, the style of BS is NO Style IMO. LOL. I gather many scenes were shots by assistant directors not Director Wong himself cos there were still some impressive scenes with interesting lighting and camera angles. You could check ep 14-19 for what I consider really good camera work there if you’re curious. But other than that, the story is lame full of crap. BS fails at storytelling.
I liked Wong Kar Wai in Hong Kong and am enjoying the few episodes I’ve seen so far. But it has a very evocative artsy feel and the use of hand held camera for the small screen can make one dizzy.
I mean, if Xu Kai and Esther are really playing siblings, I will 100% watch it because:
1. They really can pass off as siblings.
2. How many (or even, is there any) dramas that focus on male and female main characters being actual siblings instead of lovers, and that prioritize the brother-sister bonding and family relationship with romance as a side story?
So, I just watched the 1st episode, and their sibling-like interaction is cute as hell I want to cry. Like, I don’t even mind Esther’s baby voice because it makes her so adorable as a little sister, and Xu Kai nailed the role of a naughty but doting older brother… why can’t they be real siblings in this drama ;_;
Adorable…I got to wonder if people who like that horrifying fake hentai girl voice get off on it or something. Nobody who has an IQ higher than 60 could possibly enjoy that bs otherwise. Least of all if they are a woman with any self-respect.

Xu Kai is my guilty pleasure, I can tolerate anything (at the time of this writing) and finish off his shows including snow eagle lord, with help from the 10sec skip button. I will tolerate Esther’s voice and aegyo acting. Thing is, her actual voice is very pleasant and her delivery is clear, I can understand her well enough without subs. But omg she’s still doing it till this day – the aegyo voice was back on their livestream yesterday.
