So I suggest keeping expectations low for this drama, despite the fan love for the original source novel. The C-drama Xian Yu is adapted from the novel Offering Salted Fish to Master and has been in the works for years for live action and manifested it finally with leads Chen Fei Yu and Wang Ying Lu cast last year after a lot of names attached. The drama finished filming this month and released the first OTP poster above and official stills of all the main roles. There are plenty of familiar faces and the costumes don’t look back, but from all the filming set leaks it appears Chen Fei Yu is the male lead in name and top billed, but due to script changes his screen time won’t be a lot and it’s mostly focused on the female lead. It’s weird IMO since he’s the way better known one of the two leads but let’s see if the final product is a better story all around after these changes.

Welp seems like another favorite novel of mine that won’t get adapted well. I think wang yinglu would be a good fit for the fl considering her character in I am Nobody, however the overall looks of the drama does seems quite different from what I envisioned.
Actually it makes sense that the focus is on the fl, I would be glad if it is, because the novel is exactly that. Even in the early chapter the ml does not appear much, he only appears to kill some people or to comment on how some people got killed. Well I don’t know if that kind of plot would make it to the censorship.
Everything I have seen from this so far looks ... not good. Sorry cfy fans, this is not it.
Still a shame Chen Feiyu doesn't land more costume dramas roles because he looks glorious in those garments...he's definitely pretty to look at *shallow me*
Arthur Chen looks good in costume. I dropped all his costume dramas cos they were slow and boring. But he's impressive in Lighter & Princess that was one of very few modern C dramas I've ever finished. I will check it out but as Koala suggested, keep expectation low.
Most Chinese actors and actresses look better in costume because there are more opportunities to play with cosmetics. A nice wig can elevate the appearance.
Ever Night is good but her character is poorly written and I couldn't stand the lack of development lol. I'm not a fan of modern Chinese romance series because I've found them to be the same, but I've read good reviews about the one you mention.
"Koala suggested." Oh, I rarely check Koala's suggestions because I've never enjoyed the Chinese series she recommends. The last one was The Legend Of Shen Li but I droppet it at episode 6. I'm not good at disecting artistic elements in productions so I enjoy what my interest can catch. I would like to have healthy discussions about what we enjoy or not but C-drama fans in particular are intolerant and rude. I was called "Xiao Zhan hater" because I said that I only like him in The Untamed 🥹
I feel it's sad that Arthur Chen gave up his American citizenship and changed his name to please the Chinese government in hopes of boosting his Chinese acting career and yet he's not as popular or super successful. It's a huge sacrifice and the end result hasn't really made much of a difference
Holding an American citizenship while maing Chinese people money, dont u americans think thats a little shameless
Why? It happens the other way around all the time. Chinese people make American people's money..and European..and any other countrythey want to sell to, American people can sell to whoever wants to buy. European people can sell to whoever wants to buy. No one makes anyone buy a product or watch a show or movie.
Feels lucky to have a good dad. I wish my dad is a famous director 😀
