I am loving The Double greatly and for the first time a performance and character by Wu Jin Yan, though by all accounts she rocketed to stardom 6 years ago in Story of Yanxi Palace in precisely the same playbook – cunning and resourceful woman navigating treacherous waters while plotting revenge. Within the same agency, during this period Bai Lu became Yu Zheng’s fave and top go-to actress getting tons of his drama female leads and becoming so popular she’s landed dramas outside of his studio productions. Bai Lu used to play second fiddle to Wu Jin Yan but now the two are at least equal if not Bai Lu more popular, but the two fandoms have decided to reignite the online fan battles again. From industry insiders perspective, Bai Lu is now bigger as she’s landed outside projects and has been acting non-stop in aired dramas for years while Wu Jin Yan took a long hiatus and with The Double’s success is still having a long gap between hit dramas.
Acting still limited to wide eyed singular expression? Or until reports or bad behaviour.
What’s what Zhao Liying’s agency said about ABB to tarnish her acting reputation, now it is being played on Bai Lu and Wu Jin Yan.

Bai Lu worked non stop, I feel like she is just there now, I guess we see to much of her Wu Jin Yan took a long break, people haven’t seen her in awhile and just tuned in, surprised the drama is addicting. Once you start you can’t stop.
Wu jin yan only took a break for year. Her dramas dont make noise after yanxi palace until now
Bai lu is working no stop even though many of her dramas wasnt big hits recently , WJY needs to do at least a few more dramas to level up to Bai Lu statue

Both actress are just different…one can cry hard and one can whip hard. I will not compare the 2 at all. Both to me have a range of emotions they can do well but both cannot replace each other.
Bai Lu can do with a good break and then recharge herself and her soul.
Wu Jin Yan on the other hand, have had a quieter period, she is fully recharged now. Just hope she picks suitable scripts from here on. Yu Zheng have given her career 2 big boost already…

Neither of them is charismatic enough for me to fall in love with. LOL. But they both have solid acting…one is overexposed and the other were underexposed. They aren’t those who have gifts to save crappy dramas or turn bland ones into the talk of the town but are pretty likeable given good scripts and roles that suit them.

@HL, I changed my opinion after binging the Double. I like WJY a lot in the Double. Now I think her acting has some edge over Bai Lu. BL needs scripts yet to highlight her unique aura as WJY showcased in revenge dramas. WJY can be literally crowned a revenge queen now and the genre has become her niche. LOL. As to BL, she has appeared all the same with forgettable images except for some crying scenes. LOL again.
I can’t get enough of the Double and have to discipline myself from staying up to binge more eps. It’s just getting better and better, with the intensity diluting all my qualms of the plot holes at the get-go. I haven’t binged a C drama for a long while since like watching the Untamed and Nirvana in Fire the first time. This drama is something that I think can be a competition that a decent K drama is against, from script to directing to acting to camera work to lighting to setting to costume to music etc. Everything is well executed to keep my eyes glued to the screen ep after ep.
I hope the said recuts won’t affect the quality of the drama much.
@Somebody, you know, 嫡嫁千金 is actually not one of 千山茶客 more popular novel… the main character in the novel does not shine as much as Wu Jin Yan’s interpretation. That is definitely a Yu Zheng’s effort…he knows how to highlight and make Wu Jin Yan’s strength shine. This is a good partnership. I secretly watched 2 eps just to chat about the drama…🤣🤣.I had to stop myself as I hate waiting for each eps…
My favourite novel is 重生之女将星 which is currently being used in a new drama 錦月如歌. I am personal not confident Zhou Ye can make the female lead shine…
Yes let’s pit these women against each other. In c-ent world where hundreds of dramas are filmed each year, there’s just no way for more than one actress to be popular. These fans need to go outside, it’s really not that serious.
Exactly. Why not have two top actress in the agency? The potentially won’t like the same roles too and it is not like the producers will be picking the same female for a character. The chances of it happening is slim.
To be honest, as someone who viewed Bai Lu on having the potentials few years back. She does need a break and this agency is not giving her any. She should switch to another agency.
Wow, it’s surprising I’m enjoying this drama a lot, having binged 5 eps in 2 days. It’s an easy watch so far, no stress to go through emotional roller coaster as I usually experienced with Kdramas while sitting on the edge of my chair, wondering what next. I’m just having fun following the plot to unfold. Nice to see a fast paced C drama and solid acting overall.
I can overlook many plot holes as some folks already indicated. For example, how did the heroine get out of her live-burial tomb by herself? That’s a myth cracking me up. Also the huge cave she and her maid able to dig up for the girl she’s gonna play a double for!!! I spent hours to dig small holes in my flowerbed just to plant daffodil balls. How the heck two frail ladies in the antient time dressed pretty like fairies would be able to manually excavate a deep tomb just using two shovels? LOL. While plenty of nitty-gritty in the drama doesn’t make sense, the entire story flow is smooth without critical hiccups and there’s enough suspension for viewers to stay hooked one ep after another.
While the producer Yu Zheng doesn’t have a positive image of his personality and whatnot, I think he has something as a producer and has his niche in the C-ent industry. Let’s back to professionalism and leave alone his uncurbed mouth! YZ is pretty ok as a producer!
Yu Zheng for me can get too crazy, as shown with Cosmetology High, The Romance of the Condor Heroes etc. Gosh, I really dislike a number of his drama…so bad that it is memorable 😂😂 …
But a number of others may be not be as great as his top dramas, they are still entertaining enough like Legend of Lu Zhen, Arsenal Military Academy.
Yu Zheng cannot be ignored in this industry, he is a producer who can evolve with time..
I did find it funny that her head was sticking out of the dirt. Wait until you watch ep 7 or 8 where she competes with her sister in a music competition. I thought I was watching a xianxia. YZ is so over the top sometimes. He’s hit or miss. I’ve actually enjoyed some of his past dramas (and also dropped others).
The novel is not written in the tone Yu Zheng is producing but his version is a interesting balance. Yu Zheng is a b*tch with a humour…

@Soph, thanks for giving a heads up (spoiler) about the scene of zither competition. Thanks to your warning, I wasn’t down a rabbit hole when all the supernatural signs popped. LOL. Nonetheless, as more of the plot has evolved and become interesting, those nonsensical storylines can be ignored. I’m enjoying this series tremendously right now.
Bai Lu needs to take a break. She’s everywhere these past years and it get boring. I remember, dilraba took 7 or 8 months to break, BL can do the same. The same goes to ZLS.
WJY is doing good with this kinda character. It suits her. But it proves that her range acting is stuck. But probably good script will help later.
But just watched WJY’s interview, she looked healthy and pretty without ‘sick’ makeup.
BaiLu is just boring nowadays. But still re watching her Arsenal Military. She looks good with XuKai.
I don’t know if it’s Bai Lu’s personal choice to work so much, but she definitely should take a break and regroup. I thought she had so much potential when she first appeared and was excited to see her growth.
When I tried watching Royal Feast, I literally thought WJY looked pale (makeup) and skeletal. I’m just glad they’re giving her color in this one.
Bai Lu has consistently been vocal about needing a long break. In fact, the reason she still appears on Keep Running is because it is the only time she feels she have some time off. She is overwork and it’s so obvious that you start seeing stall-ness / downgrade in her acting.
I think she has another project in line with Yu Zheng. Let’s see whether she will finally get her break.
Lol if we r comparing the two ZLS definitely takes breaks in her acting career now, the reason why u feel she is everywhere is because she endorsers a lot of products, so she need to promote them when she is not in a acting project,which keeps her around and busy .
ZLS had a break (no shooting for a drama) of 7 months last year. We have only TSOPG this year
