Tian Xi Wei Steps Out of Idol Drama Zone with Pay Cut to Join Mainstream Police C-drama Low IQ Crime with Veteran Actor Wang Xiao

C-actress Tian Xi Wei worked last year with Dylan Wang in period drama Guardians of the Dafeng and seems to have taken a page from his project selection. Dylan is filming a buddy police drama Light to the Night with Pan Yue Ming and now Tian Xi Wei is off to film her own police detective drama Low IQ Crime with veteran Wang Xiao. She reportedly lobbied hard to be cast and lowered her salary to get this mainstream drama and break into that industry rather than stay in the idol drama world. It’s impressive to see her working so hard to change her image from cute girl to cool girl (more versatile) and also expand her drama genres now that she’s gotten a toehold and popularity.

  2. Good for her! She’ll show her versatility with different genres. It’s worth the pay cut if she gets good exposure.

  3. She found someone to carry her you mean?

This is the classic idol cent nonsense where they find a veteran actor with real credibility then saddle them with an idol who then sucks up all the praises that goes to drama that is carried by the said veteran actor. Nothing new under the sky in cent.

If she wanted to actually work for it, she would have carried her own drama.

  4. Well, u make a solid point. It amazing how c ent has vastly differentiate idol dramas and serious dramas, am making it look like the former is lesser than the latter, when I will need equal amount of good acting and script to get me entertained by either, I will just never understand.

    • C-ent works differently from K-ent and other countries. Look at the Chinese actors and actresses who had gained lots of fame and popularity via past idol dramas, how many of them have good acting skills compared to the actors in serious dramas? Take Yang Yang for example, he shot to fame with Love O2O and everyone loves Xiao Nai, but can you say he is good at acting? Yang Mi’s popularity exploded with Palace too, but Palace is a drama filled with plagiarism and hardly anyone bothers rewatching it, plus her acting hasn’t improved since.

There’s 2 big difference between idol and serious dramas in C-ent. Firstly, the lead characters in idol dramas are often specifically crafted to be “perfect” and likeable to the audience, some are even tailored to the actor/actress’s traits so that the actor/actress is basically just acting their own self and doesn’t require much acting skills. Secondly, most of the few good directors and scriptwriters with some casting authority have moved on to the serious dramas, meaning that most idol dramas are either helmed by rookies or subpar directors and scriptwriters who additionally don’t have any power over casting.

    • Most idol dramas are so cheap and easy to produce that the industry produces a ton of them with many of them being poor quality. And I think the crazy fans for some of the idol drama actors/actresses can influence the content so it can cause the drama to feel like it is just content for the fans. I find enjoyment in both idol and serious dramas.

I think once an entertainment industry is big enough and there are lot of platforms, there will be wide variety of genres and quality levels for so many difference audiences. For tv in the US, we’ve also had different tiers of networks with HBO being the gold standard and broadcast network channels being lesser nowadays. Also, the CW and Freeform being what would be the equivalent of idol shows (usually with young actors).

  5. It’s cool she is challenging herself at this stage in her career rather than coasting along playing the same character over and over in an idol drama

  6. Tian Xiwei should have sent a memo to her fans.

Her fans are boycotting her casting in Feng Yue Bu Xiang Guan because the FL will be a prostitute, and are even harassing the director Gordon Chan with rude comments on weibo.

This is actually a pretty good S+ project for Tian Xiwei but her fans’ behavior are unfortunately really dumb regardless of them blindly boycotting or were instigated by people who want to snatch the role.

If they read the original novel, they’d realize this role would do wonders to her acting resume.

If you look at the drama’s page on douban, Dilireba and Xiao Zhan’s fans actually want their idols to play the role.

Can’t believe Tian Xiwei’s fans think she’s above Dilireba and Xiao Zhan and that she’s above acting in this drama.

They think she’s too innocent for the role? They should be more concerned about her real life preference in men then. Her ex boyfriend was in the news for DV but he claims it’s consensual S&M.

Is someone who enjoys rough bedroom activities too good for the role of a prostitute? How ironic that they look down on prostitutes who earn money with their own abilities and neither rob nor beg for money.

Times sure have changed. All these little flower actresses’ fans think too highly of their idols’ relevance and think they have heaps of good quality drama scripts and roles to pick from.

If anything they’d be lucky to have been sent any scripts at all and not depend on auditions for roles

      • Tian Xiwei is rumored to be the FL of upcoming drama Feng Yue Bu Xiang Guan/ The Days of Seclusion and Love, but her fans are boycotting her casting.

    • I remember her fans whining and attacking her company about her resources around New Life Begins era. But she’s included in Xinli productions (NLB and soon to air Guardians of Dafeng) She also worked with Linmon.

iQiyi’s treating her good too. This drama has a veteran actor, and quality Light On team. Like Zhang Jingyi and Zhou Ye, her resources are better than same age actresses. No reason to complain.

I didn’t know about the DV and S&M… but that his ex’s issue.

      • I’m not talking about this police drama.

It’s the upcoming drama Feng Yue Bu Xiang Guan/ The Days of Seclusion and Love.

A very good S+ drama and challenging role for her but her fans are boycotting it because they don’t want her to play a prostitute.

Her fans think she’s some innocent little girl but looking at who her ex is, she’s anything but that.

Well if she doesn’t want the role, there are plenty of actresses who are salivating for it.

I just think it’s a pity to reject the role because of pressure from fans

  7. While I like her in the the idol youth-oriented dramas and I think she excels at being cute without being saccharine, I’m glad she is exploring other genres now instead of waiting until 1. her fandom gets even more obsessive or 2. she looks like she should be aging out of ingenue roles.

    • That is a very good description “cute without being saccharine”. I usually don’t like these “cute” FL because they can be annoying and just downright idiotic but TXW strikes just the right balance.
