Yu Zheng Gears Up to Reunite Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan for Another Drama and C-ent Insiders See His Breakout Leading Him to Xu Kai Status in Another Year

So period C-drama The Double has finished and there are SO MANY C-dramas airing and on deck that this drama will settle nicely into success but past tense category as immediate attention moves elsewhere. As producer Yu Zheng sits there counting his cash and cackling, he apparently is already planning to reunite Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan in another drama next year to capitalize on their good chemistry and the momentum for both. I’m not sure I need that, both impressed me in The Double but I don’t feel a burning need to see them do another drama as OTP, which typically happens when costars have amazing chemistry and are either supporting leads or have a sad ending so the reunion feels like a do-over. But Yu Zheng is also cognizant that he assembled a great supporting cast for The Double and plans to bring back as many as he can and THAT I can get onboard with, all the actors and actresses were fantabulous in that drama. On a side note, C-ent industry insiders are saying male lead scripts are heading to Wang Xing Yue like mad and if he picks well he will reach his senior Xu Kai‘s male lead status in about a year. I’ll believe it when I see it, I find Wang Xing Yue the better actor but Xu Kai the bigger indelible star appeal. His smirk is priceless haha.

  • I don't have high hopes. when he gave us a Fuheng and Wei Yingluo "reunion" in Royal Feast, that drama was trash.

  • I agree with Koala, I don’t think I wanna see Wang Xing Yue pair up with Wu Jin Yan again. There’s plenty of other actresses out there…. I had noticed Wang Xing Yue since Your Sensibility My Destiny so I am glad he is getting the stardom he deserves.

Chen Xin Hai is memorable as Ye Shi Jie. If without Wang Xing Yue I would have rooted for him.
Hope to see more of Liu Xie Ning who acted Jiang Ruo Yao [Jiang Li's half-sister].
    Support Role

Ai Mi who played Tong Er [Jiang Li's maid] in
Support Role is still very young but definitely leading actress material in the future

    • Lol just say you're WJY's hater cause it's so obvious even if you're making it sound you're not.🥱

It's not bad if they'll reunite in new series, they did really great in The Double and they gained so much popularity and fans because of their pairing.

You talk like as if "those other plenty of actresses out there" can match WXY and bring out the best in him. It's so obvious you secretly wished that your favorite whoever that is should've played XFF but sadly it didn't happen so you're venting out here and discrediting WJY's talent.

I've watched WXY's show but none of his pairs really did well for being paired with him. Casting isn't always about visuals and popularity, matching the vibes of your pair is needed to make acting look more natural.

  • In a way, I don’t think they had chemistry as much as the characters had chemistry. It wouldn’t work with another set of characters.

  • After the Double, I went to Follow Your Heart, then to The Princess Royal, and in desperation to Jade's Fateful Love...all 3 are duds; a total waste of time. Can someone please recommend something good?

    • @dcc

Did you watch "The Story of Yanxi Palace" (same actress) - #1 TV show searched in 2018 on Google in the world? I like "The Tale of Rose" recently.

    • I literally had to watch older shows to fill the void I'm feeling after finishing The Double.

And right! Those overly promoted shows this year that have been released are hella boring

  • Li Meng, the actress who played Princess Wanning needs a lead role in a good production. I can see her delivering revenge drama as the protagonist too.

    • I would also love a good drama for her. I was watching a couple of her projects but couldn't continue. I've read good reviews about The Bad Kids, so I'll give it a shot.

      • Now that you said it, I remember her role in The Bad Kids, it was a great drama, very thought-provoking.
I'm more interested to watch the Shen Yu Rong-actor follow-up projects, I like the way he transitions between evil and pitiful.

  • I'm happy for Wang Xing Yue. He was already on my watchlist, but The Double just cemented that. He's definitely in the right place to facilitate his rise, but I hope his agency looks at what didn't work for the other actors on their roster (as far as drama picks are concerned), and don't make the same mistakes. There have been quite a few duds for some of their actors.

I just love reunions with actors, and a reunion with these two is to be expected considering all the reunions that have already happened with actors at their agency. I loved watching Bai Lu and Xu Kai paired up multiple times, and wish they could star in another drama together. After Yanxi Palace, I was happy to see Wu Jin Yan with Xu Kai again. Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu can pair up as many times as they want as far as I'm concerned. If Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan can spin off the chemistry they had in The Double to a modern drama like Love Is Sweet, I'll be completely on board. Extra points if they can get the Love Is Sweet directors to do it. The behind the scenes will tell you everything you need to know. An 'enemies to lovers' drama with these two might be a lot of fun, especially if his character is the seductive mischievous type. I'd love to see him pair up with other actresses as well, but it would be a waste if the chemistry is weak. I wish more productions did chemistry tests instead of just throwing two popular actors together.

  • I just want more Double :)

I totally see why people think the CP is more about the story than the actors, but I like WJY's style (dramatic, strong) and think it works well with what WXY excels at (dramatic, gravitas. But even more than the OTP I want to see if the actor for the ex-husband can pull off another role that has intense scenes e.g., with the actress for the princess and with WJY!

    Just more, more more!!! :)

    • I really liked the actor who played the ex husband. He’s got a very sensitive face which is a big plus for an actor. Reminds me a bit of the great Tony Leung. It would be nice to see him in contemporary rom com with the lady who played the damaged princess. Maybe a remake of a Korean romcom.

    • It felt like they are really meant to be XFF and XH. I can't think of anyone who can pull off their characters like how they did it. I'm so happy that they casted WJY for XFF cause she's really great for female-centric and revenge series. She's not trying hard to be badass like the other actress who usually take revenge series. She's graceful, she's very feminine but have a strong aura in her. She's perfect for XFF and of course WXY as Duke Su, he looked like he's just being himself while being Duke Su

  • I think he will surpass Xu Kai. Xu Kai's breakout was a supporting lead whereas Wang Xingyue's was male lead. This is a pattern which I've gathered from C-ent. Actors who can headline those big male lead dramas are usually the actors who had their big breakout in male lead roles.

  • Head + desk.

Someone save Wang Xing Yue from Yu Zheng's grubby hands. His acting career is going to go nowhere with YZ. He actually has a lot of raw potential, and would benefit from working with veteran actors and serious scripts. Something like a heavy historical drama.

Being compared to Xu Kai is not a compliment.

    • Not a compliment? In popularity of course it is. Sadly, in this industry, people like numbers a lot.

      • Xu Kai's popularity is the fickle sort and won't last long. His filmography is super weak, and the actors he's able to pair up with are also weak. Xu Kai is 29. In a few more years he will be on a decline, once those young, fresh-faced ML roles dry up.

WXY has much more potential, and should go the Wang Kai route, which promises a much longer and stronger career. He's doomed if he stays with YZ. YZ doesn't have any good actors in his stable.

      • @Bella I don't disagree. Although we have many examples, being a traffic star is what has value for many fans/media as well. You can even see that in discussions of quality and talent, they bring up how popular fave is. I always see how they try to belittle Ni Ni over actresses in her age group who are basically just liuliangs. Numbers do matter and while they don't necessarily promise a long and strong career, they do offer benefits. Success is always measured in numbers and the Asian entertainment culture always makes this evident. Now it would be great if they go from traffic star to serious actors like Hu Ge. Zhu Yilong is doing it too, isn't he?

In music industry is also the same.

I apologize if there are errors in my writing, I am not yet fluent in English.

  • Good chemistry? He's a far better actor than Xu Kai so that's a good thing but I hope Yu Zheng stop making him put on so much powder on his face.
