I liked the first English title but find the second also interesting and cool in its own way, at least there is no word Love in it lol. Period romance drama Hidden Charm has been retitled to Are You the One and is still on track for imminent premiere, all signs say August 8th. It stars Zhang Wan Yi and Wang Chu Ran and those lamenting that dramas are all the same famous leads in various pairings should enjoy this fresh pairing of two stars that are on the rise and definitely can act. Wang Chu Ran’s issue is less her onscreen ability and more her offscreen personality and Zhang Wan Yi is just on the cusp of breakout and would have fully broken out by now if Lost You Forever Part 2 was any good. I couldn’t get past two episodes of last week’s premiere of derpy xianxia drama Love’s Rebellion (formerly titled Reborn for Love) with Zhang Ling He and Jing Tian so I hope You are the One is the one to anchor my August watching schedule.

Hate the new name, loved the Hidden charm but I’m still excited for this drama and I hope I won’t be dissapointed
Yeah the title sounds like any generic cdrama
I don’t have a good impression for Wang Chu Ran as an actress yet, but I’ll take a look at it. I liked Zhang Wan Yi’s performance in Lost You Forever.
@fandy
Same here.👍. I like zhang wan yi. I don’t quite fancy WCR but I am not gonna judge her too much. Perhaps this show might boost her image.
I give opportunities to actors as long as there is potential. There are many who have been in the industry for close to a decade and still don’t make any effort to improve.
The premise of the story sounds kind of interesting. I’ll probably give it a shot!
WCR can act? That’s comical! She can act off screen by Koala’s hint on her off screen personality. LOL.
The issues for this costume drama is WCR’s acting revealed in her own resume and ZWY’s visuals that are no way to hide. Good to change the title though. I can’t project any charm from the drama casting, either hidden or in broad daylight. LOL. But I’ll still check it out to see if the Double really the only exception among so many crappy C dramas. Actors’ weakness can be overlooked sometimes if script and directing are good.
Hahahahahaha. Well, if you consider Wu Jin Yan’s alien face to be beautiful you should have no problem pretending that Zhang Wang Yi is attractive. Or if you want to tell me that beauty and acting are subjective, then there is no need to react when we are told that Wang Chu Ran can act because it depends on each one of us. Just joking lmao. There are low standards for C-dramas if you consider The Double with its obvious plot holes to be an exception. I found it addictive and entertaining with great performances from the villains. But I wouldn’t consider it an outstanding C-drama like The Untamed. There are more but this is my first love in chinese productions.
@O.K i have never seen Wang Chu Ran acting so I can’t comment. But I agree with your comment about Wu Jinyan, although calling her an alien is disgusting. It made me laugh when Tong got off the carriage first and passersby considered her ugly, while they were amazed to see the fake Jiang Li. In the drama there were women who easily outshone Wu Jin Yan in looks. So every time she was described as beautiful, I didn’t take it seriously.
@O.K. Nope! I don’t consider it on the same level as Nirvana in Fire or the Untamed. But it’s rare entertainment among recent C productions that were mostly snoozefest. Besides, the ML is smoky hot to stare at. LMAO.
I don’t consider WJY a stunning beauty. Alien looks? That’s hyperbole. If Aliens look like WJY, then welcome them to take over the earth full of fugly and evil human beings! LOL.
Zhang Wan Yi’s character is supposed to be a handsome man, and he certainly doesn’t fit. So I just hope his acting is good and that in the dialogues they don’t rub in our faces how handsome he is when he is not.
The old name sounds better. I like Zhabg Wan Yi but not WCR so we’ll see if it’s worth tuning in.
I was looking forward to watching the new releases of Chinese dramas but I’ll save them for later. I am more passionate about the K-dramas recommendations given by some users here.
I’ve read the entire novel this is based off and I loved the plot so I think as long as they can pull off a fair execution this could be really good all around. I’ve always thought Zhang Wan Yi was a really good actor (seen him in about 4 roles) and for Wang Chu Ran, I think personality and rumours aside, she was quite good in her other supporting roles, just a shame that her first leading role in Fireworks of My Heart had such controversy all around plus the character wasn’t really likeable.
I kinda given up most hopes of good novel adaptions since even the novelist as scriptwriter can’t save her own novel from indecent changes. I’m skipping the novel and just go watch the drama since I really like Zhang Wanyi’s acting in Lost You Forever. Wang Churan is a new face for me since I only know her name from cEnt News but haven’t watched any of her dramas before.
WCR in her lead role in ‘Love Heals’ has acted surprisingly well. I saw her in other supporting roles and didn’t prove her acting to be good. I’m sure give her some time, she will be the star. As for ZWY, he has more lead roles than WCR. ZWY in ‘Lost You Forever S1’ has proved his acting skills. These 2 stars are progressively rising up. But we don’t know what their chemistry is like acting as a couple. Look forward to the show.
