K-netizens Remarks on Lee Min Ho Turning into an Ahjusshi at the Press Conference for Pachinko Season 2

Streaming Apple TV K-drama Pachinko season 2 premieres today and this week the cast as been on a series of press tour events. I’m not interested in the drama but am happy for Lee Min Ho to land one of the male leads in this sprawling cast prestige drama and also get a broader global audience. He was supposed to be back in the small screen this year as well with When the Stars Gossip (Ask the Stars) but the airing date for that is nowhere in sight. K-netizens weren’t too happy with his visuals this week at the Pachinko press conference in Korea complaining that he’s turned into an ahjusshi. The suit is terribly cut and does him no favors and his styling is also very stodgy but everyone ages even the former teen flower boys are now nearly twenty years into their careers so of course middle age comes calling. I think Lee Min Ho can look as hot as he wants when he wants, but sometimes due to styling comes off more fuddy duddy.

K-netizens Remarks on Lee Min Ho Turning into an Ahjusshi at the Press Conference for Pachinko Season 2 — 57 Comments

      • I don’t agree with jcw he looks too plastic. Of that generation, im siwan and haein also look funnily enough they’re close with soohyun, these 88 liner besties looking so fresh and young.

      • I agree JCW doesn’t look aged, at least not in his latest drama I watched, Welcome to Samdalri.

    • Doe – Rich of you to talk about looks when you idolize a plastic monster. At least PSJ and LMH and even KSH, JHI and ISW are all successful with prestigious projects and critical recognition. Even JCW’s flop career is still successful than your plastic monster.

    • If we go by looks alone, Park Hae Jin is killing it at 41. Has anyone taken a look at him lately? He’s been active again on ig, mostly as part of Amotti’s workout buddies group. Imo he looks now better than he ever did and I can’t say I was into his looks that much before. So, yes, actors don’t have to be excessively slim or bulky to look good.

As for LMH, imo at 36/37 he looks a bit older than his age, he’s the type that looked best in his late teens and all throughout his 20s and as he approaches 40s his age catches up to him too much. As it was already stated, similar to LeoDC.

  1. All these weight obsession.. This society is just putting stupid pressure on its own people to be forever slim, forever young and forever never growing older.
Just accept nature of life.. people mature, age. All these are cycle of life.
I may not be a fan of Lee Min Ho, I think I watched 2 of his dramas only. But he does not deserved to be body shamed, as we age, metabolism slows down.. I believe Lee Min Ho may have some health issues that may affect his ability to be slim as he was before.

  3. But doesn’t he have to look a certain way for his role in Pachinko? He looks pretty same to me so silly. Can’t be anorexic thin forever. Aging happens eventually. I’m sure after this he might lose it now but please no more plastic surgery. Even American actors that have been aging are getting so much flack and ruining it with more plastic surgery. Unfortunately aging happens they just need to take care of themselves.

  4. I can’t remember netizens NOT complaining about anyone’s look, tbh. Someone got harsh critic, someone light critic, byt this is always following actors, especially when they aging and don’t look like flower boys anymore.
Their face is their acting ID. I read interview of some actors who waits to look older to play some roles (KSH said in his interview during QOT promotion that he wants to play Kim Gab Soo’s character, when he will be look suitable for that role).
I don’t see ahjussi here. He just looks like 36 yo man. But for an actor “ahjussi look” can bring more various roles in the future, so I’m personally think this is not bad thing.

    • I kid you not, those people complain over nothing and everything. I agree with you that an ahjussi look can be a good thing. He doesn’t look like a flower boy, cause he’s 3 years shy of 40 and probably doesn’t feel the need to look like he’s in his 20s. They should allow him act his age please.

  5. He’s only 37 and hasn’t even peaked yet. Men mostly peak in their 40s but I think it’s true for women too these days. Which is good to be honest.

    • Average people do not peak in their 40s… and it’s super uncommon for even wealthy women to do so. Botox, fillers, etc just make them look like clowns.

  6. He looks the same to me. But to be honest I was never a fan of his acting or visuals. To be fair, I haven’t seen Pachinko.

  7. He looks the same, but it’s more about his hairstyle than his looks. Maybe if he didn’t have long hair, he might still look handsome.

  8. He is a 37 year old man that looks like he is a 37 year old man. Not everyone ages like Gong Yoo or Lee Je Hoon. I think its because he has aged right infront of the world from his Gu Jun Pyo character to somewhat average looking male star in comparison to others is why people are having a hard time. But he genuinely looks fine to me. It also doesn’t help that he has always been more famous for his looks than acting. But I’ve heard he did pretty well in Pachinko so that shouldn’t be an issue now.

  9. Lee Min Ho has bad day looks on certain days. Styling on stage matters alot. The suit doesn’t look dapper and certainly looks quite outdated. His skin tone is rather dull. It’s certainly challenging to look good all the time but that’s the kind of hard work you need if you want to be a brand spokesmodel. But if you wanna just focus to be an actor, probably it doesn’t matter.

  10. Everyone ages , he is 37 years old ! He looks the same for me . A lot of actors of his age take care of themselves to look younger, he may be on the side of the ones who don’t care as french actors . Knetizens are too obssessed with visuals .

  11. The trousers looks like they weren’t even ironed or steamed.

I think he actually looks better here than he has in a while. He has looked bloated for years now. Maybe his diet is bad or he drinks too much? He doesn’t have strong bone structure and has a very doughy features so if he gains even half a kg it immediately shows on his face.

The irony is I think if he had kept his original jaw and nose he would have aged much better. He used to have a strong square jaw and more prominent nose but he followed the PS trend and shaved them down.

  12. Its the pants but other than it, he looks the same as he did during the first Pachinko PC. He looked pretty good in the released stills of Ask the Stars too. LMH has never been a strong actor and primarily is successful due to his looks. As long as he keeps that going in projects, it’s not gonna be a problem. Anyway, I am mostly waiting for Rose’s Viva La Vida cover OST to release because that was a haunting rendition. So so good!!

  13. He looks like his age and aging eventually catch up to everyone at some point. Has someone commented above this could help him get into certain roles that his flower boy image wouldn’t have. Maturity can be a blessing depending on how u look at it. Obsession of the image of actors is disturbing, can we let their acting speak for them more than their looks.i get that is part of the package but at the end of the day their main job is to act.

  14. I have to admit, I have no idea what’s happening with the trousers😂😭. Other than that he looks great. Also did you know Min ho had to audition and be selected for his role in this “sprawling cast prestige drama’? He even said he was worried there would be rumors if he failed the audition, that is English for he earned his place in the drama, like he has always earned in all his dramas. I am tired of some people saying Min ho can’t act, and he’s all about his looks! Falsehood. Now that he doesn’t look as great according to those people’s estimation also, how exactly is he landing roles in prestigious dramas? Even the drama with gong hyo jin is not your average budget drama. Lee is as handsome as he can act, period!!!

  15. It’s not that he’s aged badly just that he has a squarish bone structure that doesn’t translate to youthfulness. Leo Dicaprio is same way.

  16. He got plump and filled out. When he loses the weight and work out more, I’m sure he’ll be hot. Regardless, his acting has always been meh for me.

  17. Lol he has never looked good. Maybe 10+ years ago in heirs or city hunter maybe. But he’s someone that doesn’t look like they work out kinda like leo dc. And he started getting a massive Amy of fillers years ago n hasn’t stopped. He already has a round face n filling it up more doesn’t look good. Add on all the other ps stuff he must have gotten has caught up. His styling is also always not that great

  18. He still looks hot as ever. He is the only actor who is crazy handsome. Just watch Heirs and Legend of Blue sea. He was so handsome in those and i am a forever fan just like how i am a fan of Jo In Sung.

  19. Just because he’s handsome already, people are always so critical of his looks. I have also noticed the same with other good looking actors. Must be tiring for these actors. If I was one of them. I’d want my work to be discussed more than my appearance as I am an actor. Looking good is a part of the job but not THE JOB! Minho is very handsome, fit, attractive and successful for his age. His looks should not be of anyone’s concern. The fact that k-netz have mean things to say, just shows they just don’t like him.

  20. I never was a fan, but he was good in Pachinko. Also, he looks his age. That is the way it should be. Noone can look 23 forever.

  21. They are all aging besides ji chang wook who stay young and fresh like a beautiful vampire.but minho is still very handsome. I m sure 800% more hansome than those netizens with their always on disappointment

    • Better an aging actor who can be picked for prestigious international scripts and high budget dramas with A-listers over a young looking vampire who agrees to do anything that knocks on his door and 90% of them being forgettable.

  22. What’s wrong with this people..He looks ok and himself..And beauty comes from inside..You are so obsessed with his look not his acting..Be carefull when judging people..You dont know if it affects their mental health..Hes handsome and himself..

  23. The problem with people saying he doesn’t need to look good and only needs to act well is… he can’t act. His whole image is being a great looking guy who is a mediocre actor. Dude has no major acting recognition and is still so bankable because of his popularity which is derived by his sauve charm, charisma and good looks. He cannot lose the very thing that got him to where he is and kept him there. Not without developing some acting talent at almost 40.

  24. Say what you like about LMH’s looks or acting but he is still the most famous Hallyu actor – male or female – today. Hate him or not, that’s just a fact. He gets the pick of the crop and when he doesn’t do just do leftovers that fall of his lap.

  25. I think he looks the same as he has looked since returning from enlistment. That is to say if one thinks he is ahjussi looking here, then he would have looked like an ahjussi in Pachinko Season 1 too. He hasnt aged very well similar to Leonardo DiCaprio as someone said already but his bigger issue is not dressing well. If his coordi does a better job, he will look fine like he does in his dramas.

  26. Interestingly I found LMH in these stills visually resembling Cha Jin-woo, the attractive ajussi ML in Tell Me That You Love Me which I’ve been watching recently and a very good drama IMO. LMH is no CJW. But I won’t dismiss him as many comments have dissed him on this site.

Acting isn’t all about reciting lines, diction, and facial expressions. Being convincing in action is also a valuable skill. I know most Kdrama fans are fangirls and ajumma mostly loving romance. Therefore, many “excellent” actors in their definition of tiny theater lexicon are all those who have strong chemistry with FLs and can kiss. LMAO. Don’t forget there are many genres other than rom com or melo or boring slices of SK life that a lot of female Kdramas love to rave about. LMH may not be as heart-melting as your idol heartthrobs. Nonetheless, he was pretty good and convincing in both physique and acting as an action hero in either Faith or City Hunter. He definitely beats many popular actors in action genres. I yet have to see certain overhyped actors (on this site) to be able to nail characters in genres other than rom com or melo. They might be good at kissing and crying, but weak when PD needs them to show fists and badass kicking. LOL.

      • LOL. Here come the ppl craving for those actors who can only kiss and cry! How is my opinion absurd? Only to you Kdrama love birds! LMAO @Mir & @Lmao.

    • Jung Woo Sung acted as Cha Jin Woo in Tell Me That You Love Me…I was googling who Cha Jin-Woo was then I realised you are talking about a character.

      • LOL. That must be! He’s new to me although he’s relatively old as a Kdrama romance ML. I like his acting and aura a lot although this is the only drama of his I’ve ever watched.

  27. I don’t think LMH will look Ajussi in the pressers for Ask the Stars or Omniscient Readers Viewpoint. It’s his job to blend as needed.. And he is kind of good at it.

  28. Did these fans stop watching Lee Minho after he went into military service because he’s looked that way since his comeback. He gained a bit of weight for Pachinko and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint but he is in his late 30s and he looks like it. Even Hallyu stars can’t stop aging and other age a bit earlier than others. They can’t always depend on heavy makeup and multiple layers of filters to smooth out their wrinkles and deep lines when it’s an in-person event that’s streamed live in 4K. Anyway I still don’t get the hype on his acting and charisma in Pachinko. Great drama but he’s probably the weakest actor in the cast.
