Wu Lei’s Agency Refutes Rumor that Zhang Ling He Will be Replacing Him in the Upcoming Nirvana in Fire 3 Production — 14 Comments

    • I loved both NIF 1 and NIF 2—they are two sides of the same coin. I think one must watch NIF 2 without actively comparing it with NIF 1 to see it for the gem that it is. You can also view it (NIF 2) as how Lin Shu would have been if he had a chance to live a normal life. It also shows the slightly justified concerns of the ministers if a military family is too powerful. I would admit the first half of NIF 2 is slightly slower than the first half of NIF 1 (and the romance is meh) but by the second half, you realize how very much worth it the build up is. TheFanGirlVerdict has a fantastic review of both series, highly recommended.

  1. Wu Lei’s acting isn’t strong. There are dramas and films where he’s solid, and others, where he seems to have one-note acting. He’s inconsistent, like most Chinese actors on the radar. Anyway, because of my appreciation for a couple of his previous performances, I still want to take a look at his projects.

  2. ZLH drama isn’t doing “well”. It is a tsunami of fake data that is being discussed everywhere. Also that and him being a racist pos are about the only discussions about this drama.

That he is an arrogant one shows this leak he released. He isn’t fit to shine Wu Lei’s shoes.

    • Laughing my head off. Yeah. The only ones who think they’ve blown up are their team, who keep spending millions on marketing campaigns that nobody watches. Every word related to the drama talking about fraud, lmfaooo. This Chasing Jade has become a laughingstock.

  3. I was thrilled at NiF when I watched the drama the first time. The sequel is meh both in plot and acting. Knowing the plot of NiF (1) already, I’m not necessarily motivated to re-watch the drama again. Given new perspectives from the current costume drama production standards, NiF might fail fans’ expectation in many ways if released today, and it could be considered overrated. Nonetheless, NiF is still a Cdrama classic that made impressive impact on viewers’ experience back then. So, its fans are legit to anticipate the sequels, like Joy of Life series.

Wu Lei has been mostly a miss for me in the past. Zhang Linghe wasn’t that impressive on screen either until Chasing Jade. I’m not sure if either one can carry a character with the gravitas as much as Hu Ge who was pivotal to the huge success of NiF (1) IMO.

  4. I just hope they don’t choose an actor like ZLH. I think he’s better suited to his idol drama path where he just has to focus on his visuals and nothing else. They need to consider choosing a non-trafic actor known for being good at acting plss

    • Lately I’ve been finding supporting actors who are solid in acting. Some don’t have visuals, others do, but connections are certainly not on their side.

      • Real Chinese viewers would want to see acting. They actually divide these actors into two categories: idol actors and serious drama actors. They are very aware of who is good. The problem is always capital. They don’t care who acts well or not, unfortunately.

      • But some so-called “serious” lol drama actors are very boring, overacting more often than not. Besides, there are no visuals to keep me entertained. lol

  5. I think Wu Lei suits this type of drama rather than Romance. chasing Jade is actually very enjoyable, probably not such a huge hit but it is really good and popular amongst international fans.
