Yu Zheng Confirms Wu Jin Yan and Wang Xing Yue to Reunite in New Drama
The reunion onscreen of The Double costars Wu Jin Yan and Wang Xing Yue was not a matter of if but of when/where. Producer Yu Zheng has confirmed the two will be starring in his upcoming C-drama adaptation of novel Fall From Grace Spring Night (坠落春夜 Duo Luo Chun Ye). The novel is set in modern times but the drama will change it to the Republic era i.e. in the 1900’s to the 1930’s thereabouts. No clue when the drama will start filming as inking these two leads is great but both are also in talks for a handful of projects each so it will be a matter of juggling timing.
Why change the time period? Is he scared the actors can’t pull off a modern time period or that their image suits historical over modern? So weird.
WXY does look great in theatrical costumes. Imagine him in tailored republican era coats, suits and hats. And WJY in those elegant dresses. I can see where they are going with this. I am wondering if they are trying to pull off a Maggie Cheung Tony Leung slow burn kind of romance like In the mood for Love. I love watching old Hollywood movies set in 1940–50’s. The ladies were so elegant and the men so debonair.
He would look like Gregory Peck circa 1940’s in those minguo outfits
I don’t hate the time era just hope the author is cool with her story being switched like that? I agree that they both suit time era more than modern but modern romances can be more draggy so they changed it for that reason.
@Sirey…do you think? I love Gregory Peck “To Kill a Mockingbird”. His death sadden me for a while.
I am unsure I see Wang Jin Yan looking like Gregory Peck…but we dont have to agree to this.
@Sirey and HL, my dad used to watch a lot of Gregory Peck. Peck seemed to be a very fine gentleman that you can’t find many nowadays.

YAY!!! And a Republican era drama too! Consider me seated for this reunion. Can’t wait for the second round of magazine photoshoots either. Dial up the costume designer for ‘Arsenal Military Academy’ or whoever else excels in designs for this era, and these two will be looking glorious. Loved their chemistry in ‘The Double’. I just want to see more female lead and supporting actresses who can exude what Wu Jin Yan and Li Meng did in The Double. The plucky girl next door, wide eyed innocent, and annoying immature characters are in abundance. I just want to see more female characters that exude the aura of a mature woman.
I am ready to see Wang Xing Yue with other actresses as well, but it will be a waste of time if he’s paired with someone who can’t deliver in the chemistry department.
I’d rather have one A lister paired with an unknown they have chemistry with than two A listers with none. WXY’s ‘In The Mood For Love’ inspired photoshoot with Wu Jia Yi for their Repbulican era drama Shadow Detective had me anticipating that drama way before The Double aired. They look absolutely amazing together. She was a true scene stealer in Arsenal Miliary Academy and Republican era costuming is just made for her. I hope Shadow Detective is WXY’s next drama to air especially since it wrapped filming in January of last year.
I am not a fan of that era… but will still be interested to watch this pairing again..
Second.
I love Minguo, if they stay away from politics + propaganda. I am afraid though that the drama was changed to Minguo either because the producer thinks that the leads will look better in 1930s costumes (especially him – guys, I still don’t see what you see in him, but that’s ok, we cannot all love the same men!) or because the producer wants to pay lip service to the CCP. I hope it’s the first because propaganda always makes shows draggy and insipid.
Only this casting news interests me now. I’ve been more entertained by the most highly rated Taiwanese legal/crime drama the past few days. 😵😵🤑🤑 None of C- or K- drama can compare. LOL.
