Well the IMF crisis in 1997 is now the backup for not one but two high profile K-dramas. The first is Knock Off with Kim Soo Hyun and a veritable clown car of big name actors and actresses alongside him. Now comes Typhoon Company which is in talks with Junho as the lead and is likely a done deal. Junho plays the son of a family business battered during the IMF crisis and he must save it. The drama is from the PD of Fight My Way and is scheduled to air on tvN sometime next year.
He’s really good in underdog kind of roles. I hope he can pull it off. I’m disinterested in Kdramas these days. Maybe this one can rekindle my flagging interest.
AHHHH Junho. Seeing acting news from them really soothes my 2PM heart. I hope Taecyeon’s acting grows to match Junho’s. I love seeing both of them on screen.
The hotel drama he did with Yoon-A was overly cliche and got some bad press, but in that one as well as his older roles (ML or not) he has shown grat ability! I know that he’ll continue to grow because he takes acting and script-reading seriously
Why did he even do that one anyway? I wonder if he did it as favor or something. With his ability he could have chosen romcom with better script
To be fair,it was a big hit so it worked out well for him.
Well it made him a hallyu star which I think was the goal from the start. He already established himself as a well-respected and award-winning actor with Red Sleeve, the next step is to capture the international popularity of being a hallyu star ala SJK, etc. to cement himself as an A-list actor. I personally wasn’t a fan of KTL as well as his FL but I think he made a wise decision choosing that project. The drama was indeed a hit and Junho became more known to international Kdrama fans
totally agree with @Sunny and @choochoo
Plus I think as much as I also dont like KTL that drama kinda showed his versatility and star factor. Cause to be able to bring that drama success with its super cliche plot and other reasons, shows his saviness in picking projects and how much pull he has with the audience, on the local and international level. That’s the important part after KTL.
Though I am glad, like usual, he keeps picking different genre dramas.
Junho is a versatile actor that can play both cold rich jerk and poor broken man very convincingly. Looking forward to him picking up a new role.
Pingback: Junho Set to Make K-drama Return in 2025 with IMF Crisis Business Drama Typhoon Company | Parlour News Korea
Exciting! I hope he gets a non idol leading lady.
Excited for this, been so long since The Red Sleeve, I need a new drama from him. Crossing my fingers they a get a good script writer. I need a project with a good script for him…
My 2PM bias was gorgeous dancing on stage and he composed songs that was what was appealing to me the most. But TBH, his acting and dramas haven’t impressed me much except for his breakout hit The Red Sleeve. Compared with some other seasoned K actors such as Nam Goong Min, Lee Joong Gi, and Song Joong Ki etc., Junho has more to learn and look up to from his seniors.
As an experienced business woman, I’m not that interested in business dramas. I usually don’t take corporate settings in Asian dramas seriously. I’m not excited about Typhoon Company, neither Knock off, but will check this out for Junho’s sake.
Given his lackluster performances in king the land. I’m not looking forward to his upcoming project. Can’t believe i would see the day witnessing yoona outact him.
Missjb is talking nonsense. King The Land is the reason of the resurgence of rom-com. Lee Junho portrayal of the role has become an eye-opener to actors that they can give a refreshing performance regardless of the genre. Guwon was the best portrayed character in rom-com in Kdrama. I have yet to find the ML can who naturally delivers not just the romance but the comedic aspect of the drama and a portrayal that has remained loyal to the genre. There just one, the one and only Lee Junho.
He is the main contributor of the success of King The Land. It topped rated in all 3 areas;
-The most viewed kdrama on Netflix for 2023-2024 combined.
-Top rated buzz & most talked drama & actors with Lee Junho winning Daesang at Fundex
-One of the most top rated drama of JTBC
They said acting is reacting and a good actor can bring out the best of his co-stars. My friends here, that is Lee Junho greatest strength. He is the rarest actor who can elevate co-stars performance.
I think Junho should decide which one he wants to focus whether it is singing on stage or acting. At the moment, he is a rare young Baeksang winning actor who also has international hits. His acting career is more appealing.
Entertainment industry is fast moving in both (acting & idol industry) and it is not only Hallyu which are giants in asian entertainment industry anymore. If he stays being as an actor and an idol (without properly established in both) ,he may end up losing both.
Unfortunately if there is a Venn’s diagram for his idol FD & acting FD, the intersection point is too low to be active in both fields.
He has been non stop working ,yet .His drama fans are complaining that there is one drama per almost two years while other actors have frequent projects.
Some 2PM fans are complaining that they can’t have comebacks because he is acting. And his solo Japanese FD is complaining they can’t have his Solo Tour this summer because of his shooting.
He is trying to balance all 3 FD’s needs ,but I think neither is satisfied with the portion they receive.
So,I think it is better to focus in one area. I mean he is not a young star either and he is in his mid 30s and there is a limited time before he reaches 40.
He can continue his singing career but not as a main job but rather an extension of his acting career. However I agree on the group activities part. Lee Junho should not do any 2pm at this stage otherwise he would lose steam both of acting and singing careers.
To a few 2PM fans, Junho has already been turned into a villain from a hero.
(Like the captain of the football team who misses a penalty in the champion match).
They thought My House’s fancam success would brought 2PM to a new height (like Day 6’s reverse charting right now).
Junho at the time (with combination of My House’s fancam,The Red Sleeve ,Senorita stage with Yoona) ,his domestic success was almost unrivalled. He got No 1 in Male Idol Brand Reputation index before BTS got into the Army.
It is not only him also his 2PM bandmates in higher Brand reputation index after Comeback.
It was unfortunate that his idol breakout and his drama breakout happened at the the same time.
He had to choose a side and he chose acting by shooting KTL which was good for him.
But My House’s fame died down. As well as interests in 2PM.
As I may not be clear in my comments and it may be considered an attack, I do want to highlight ‘A few’ in my comment. Most Hottests are understanding towards his career choice. But of course, there are still voices in the FD about lacks of comebacks and tours, etc.
Didn’t 2pm released a full album and concert last year? Wow! Did the fans really antagonise him? He is very unlucky with his group fandom. Unlike Suju fans, they are very supportive whether it’s a solo, duo, trio or group. Heechul has not been promoting for few comeback yet the show goes on.
The more reason Lee Junho should focus on his own activities and build his own fandom because sounds like those group fans are not his fans. I hope it’s not too late for him and still able to have his own fandom in his 30s.
They had CB & full length album in 2021.Last year, they had 15th anni concerts.
Junho had viral ‘My House’ fancam around 2020.
There was 2PM CB after he got out of military and Must album was well received due to My House Butterfly effect.
So a lot of Hottests dreamt of reverse popularity like Day 6 .
But suddenly, Junho also was well received as an actor (after The Red Sleeve) and he even got a Baeksang. So ,JYPE decided Junho would make money more as an actor which led to less 2PM activity.
Now, 2PM was active with three members (WY,Jun.K, Nichkhun) without current popular members (Junho & Taecyeon)
Also, when 2PM moved to Japan around 2013 as their major base, Junho became the most popular members . So, a lot of J Hottests are Junho biased. So, some of them are uninterested towards 2PM without Junho.
So ,of course, other biased are extremely angry towards Junho right now.
They know 2PM can be much more with full members.
A few of them may consider JH as a villain who prioritizes his acting career over the team possible chance of Reverse Popularity.
2PM had a CB with full length album in 2021 which was 3 years ago. They had 15th anni concert last year in Japan & Korea.
Junho had a viral Fancam ‘My House’around 2020 which was just before his discharge.
After his discharge, they produced Must album which was quite well received due to My House butterfly effect.
Hottest imagined they would have a reverse popularity like Day 6 right now.
But the main hero of My House aka Lee Junho unexpectedly had a breakout role as an actor in The Red Sleeve. He even got a Baeksang, so JYPE decided Junho would make more money as the actor which led to less 2PM activity.
Now 2PM is active with 3 members (Wooyoung.Jun.K.Nichkhun) as ENWJ without the current most popular members (Junho & Taecyeon)
The history of 2PM is when they moved to Japan, Junho became the most popular member . A lot of J Hottests are Junho biased. So, some of them lost interest in 2PM without Junho.
Yeah, now, a few other members biased Hottests are angry at Junho for choosing his acting career over 2PM reverse popularity. He was turned into a villain from My House hero.
Thanks for the explanation. But isn’t 2pm a 2nd Gen idol? So the 2pm fandom don’t want him to have a career of his own? That is weird.
With how the fandom are behaving towards him, the more he should focus on his solo works.
Before The Red Sleeve, I remember Lee Junho had several breakthroughs in acting yet he chose the group over his acting career.
-box office hit movie Cold Eyes, you know a naturally great actor when his character lingers the entire movie despite the low screentime. For Koreans, he was an actor not idol since his actor debut. With the response from the public, he must had been flooded with acting offers after this movie.
-box office hit movie Twenty, with only few movies under his belt, yet he already showed versatility. He achieved another wave of popularity in acting.
-top rated drama Chief Kim, he delivered another iconic character that it became a meme.
His not in his 20s anymore. He’s at the age that it’s imperative that focuses on his solo activities because time flies & before he knows it, he’s already in his 40s.
