SBS Inks Deal to Air Existing K-dramas on Netflix Starting in February 2025 with The Fiery Priest and Suspicious Partner
This totally makes sense as the existing K-drama deck on Netflix needs to continually be added to otherwise it just feels like the same few dramas being pushed with a new one or two added every month. SBS has signed a deal with Netflix to air it’s most popular older dramas on the streaming platform which should give new life to some beloved works. The first to premiere is The Fiery Priest first season on February 7th followed by Suspicious Partner the next week on the 17th. After that on Feb 22nd comes The Secret Romantic Guest House, Dr. Romantic first and second seasons, Again My Life, and Lovers of the Red Sky. Then on the 24th it will go wayyyyyyy back to early Hallyu and release Temptation of Wife, Rustic Period, All In, and Ladies of the Palace, talk about old school. And finishing up the month of February on the 28th it will drop Incarnation of Jealousy (Don’t Dare to Dream), Today’s Webtoon, and Now, We are Breaking Up.
Aren’t most of these dramas already on Netflix or are they talking about the Korean Netflix adding them because before that they were on Wavve only locally.
Woohoo!! That’s awesome. I hope old the early 2000 shows all make it to Netflix soon !
This is such good news for an old school kdrama lover like myself. Thank you SBS and Netflix. Wider accessibility means wider recognition for older dramas that can potentially win over new generations of fans. For once Netflix is so on point in reading the current trend globally. People want more of the older kdramas mixed with new popular ones. Most of Netflix kdrama originals receive lukewarm response save for SG 2. Let’s hope for better showing for the new ones starring IU PBG, Suzy KWB and GYJ KSH. It will be an intriguing battle between Netflix screened SBS old & new dramas versus Disney’s S tier actor dramas like Knock Off, Made in Korea, Tempest, Hyper Knife etc. It’s time for Disney to drop the geolock silliness and dismal promotional skills if they want to compete seriously with Netflix.
Doubt the old dramas would have any impact on the new D+ releases or even Netflix’s own upcoming new dramas. It’s nostalgic to watch a 10-20 year old classics but if one picks them over a new one, they weren’t interested to see said new one in the first place.
I think my viewing habit is an exception rather than the norm. Lol. I agree old SBS dramas alone won’t dent Disney new kdramas but the mixture of new SBS hits and popular old ones is very interesting to me. I’m the kind of demographic that Netlix thankfully finally understand. I shift between new and old kdramas easily depending on my mood, availability of titles geographically and accessibilty to different streaming services.
I will be watching Love Scout and Good Partners if they screen on Netflix international territories but atm I’m watching 2015 House of Bluebird to enjoy Lee Joon Hyuk’s charm and also rewatching 2002 Successful Bright Girl starring Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk while waiting for Good Partner and Love Scout to be available.
Is this schedule just for Netflix Korea or does this apply to other regions where some of these dramas are not yet streaming? BECAUSE A NETFLIX BINGEWATCH OF 129 EPISODES OF TEMPTATION OF WIFE IS A TOTAL GAME-CHANGER.
Yeah temptation of wife supremacy!!!
Was also thinking this! 129 episodes of pirated content running on a computer screen is a non-starter. 129 episodes running on my tv as I do housework – can be done! I think that’s how it was meant to be watched since it was a daily soap airing at 7pm. You were supposed to be only half-paying attention until something really juicy, dramatic parts.
Praying to drama gods that they’ll bring back Will It Snow for Christmas, Angel Eyes, Giant, Warrior Dong Baek Soo, Fahion King, I’m Sorry I Love You, Memories of Bali, Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo etc. I can live with the bad hair and dated wardrobe. Ahhh, the nostalgia and feels.I feel like having a pajamas binge watch party.
Axe fashion king, that’s the most ridiculous drama ever made, along with nonsense ending.
Some of them were free on youtube… Not sure it’s a good news actually.
WILL THEY BE AIRING ON USA NETFLIX ???
Boo. I don’t do Netflix. Netflix is the main reason I’m watching a heck of a lot more Chinese drama these days.
I wish KBS would do this so I can watch The Princess Man on Netflix. I’m intrigued to watch Rustic Period, Ladies in the Palace and All In. Are these shows gonna be on international Netflix or only on Netflix Korea?
Stupid wrong move, rather than creating their own steaming platforms and attracting international audiences ,they are putting all the golden eggs to Netflix busket, and causing more struggle for actors cuz they can no longer afford paying the same amount of money as Netflix, means less quality dramas and more Westerns contents.
