Zhang Ling He and Zhang Miao Yi Cast in Period C-drama Gui Luan
A new C-drama has recently been cast and is slated to start filming in December 2025 so two months from now. It’s titled Gui Luan (歸鸞) where Gui means returning and Luan is a fictional mythical bird related to the phoenix. The drama has cast Zhang Ling He and Zhang Miao Yi as the leads but the early feedback has more naysayers than excitement. The issue is Zhang Miao Yi’s character is a princess and the most beautiful one in the land so the dig is that she’s cute at best and nowhere near being a country slaying level beauty. Then the issue is that Zhang Ling He’s character is ends up as the Princess’ husband and that is identical to his role in The Princess Royal (Du Hua Nian), though of course the set up and machinations are all different. The drama is adapted from the same name novel and will come from the screenwriter who adapted Love Like the Galaxy.
This could go two ways. People bully her endlessly because she doesn’t match the character description or she somehow pulls off the character well enough with her acting like Yang Zi did in Heavy Sweetness or Mark Chao in 10 Miles that everyone is able to overlook it. I guess we’ll see. I’m definitely a hypocrite though cuz I was just shitting on Liu Yuning getting roles he’s not appropriate for but I’m much more openminded here cuz I love Zhang Miaoyi lmao.
Unless being the most shockingly beautiful woman in the land is an important plot point, the screen adaptation can just leave it off and just say beautiful. And not the first time a screen adaptation veered off from the novel. We’ve gotten red flag male leads ending up as squishy green flags quite a few times.
I adore Zhang Miao Yi… she is one newbie I like. But I did not expect she had the chance to pair with Zhang Linghe…he is so popular these days.
I feel the same. Like she certainly stepped up fast being paired with Him. Like I would never have thought they would be paired unless because he is first billed and could not find a leading lady then it makes a bit more sense. But not saying she is a bad actress though. Hope it works out for her.

I like her but can’t see her as a female lead in a drama like that, and her co-star, though not a better actor, is totally above her level, visually. She’s gonna get roasted, I am afraid, Liu Yuning-style (though he’s a man so still finds his audience). Or maybe Ren Min – style, that would be more accurate.
Ren Min is definitely a prefect comparison. Ren Min and Xiao Zhan…I watched the drama just the beginning and had to stop…will pick up later again. Even my love for Xiao Zhan could not motivate me to finish the drama.
I love Ren Min in modern movies…but period dramas…not my cup of tea.
I don’t mind another The Princess Royal. Everything looks ok other than the lead actress. She’s cute. Too cute actually. Overwhelmingly cute. So I can never finish her drama
Seeing Miaoyi in the promo with Cheng Lei and Zhouye. She looks soooo much prettier. I wish, her studio keeps that kind of makeup on her.
She’s nowhere near his level but Linghe has acted with many popular first leads. Instead of fighting over billing, the production probably wants a safe route.
Good for Miaoyi for leveling up. Hopefully Wen Peng will get the chance too. She’s so pretty and relax in Love’s Ambition.

I find her very cute but that wont be enough for me if Im watching her with one of actors I follow I hope there will be chemistry and she can keep up with his acting.
Also she aint country slaying level beauty BUT if they have good styling I believe she will also look quite beautiful.
