K-drama Perfect Crown with IU and Byun Woo Seok Debuts to 7.8% Ratings Going Up to 9.5% in Second Episode with Solid First Impression Reviews — 16 Comments

  1. To be honest, I didn’t much care for it. I will watch the next two episodes, but the first two episodes didn’t give me much reason to like the characters. I like IU, but the character here was a bit too much. Every word, every gaze and smile was done for show. So I don’t know if that is her real character or a front.
For him it’s the opposite. I have no idea what kind of person he is, other than looking pretty. Let’s see how the next episodes are.

  2. Talking of kdrama, what happened to the Korean version of Koori No Sekai with Park Min Young and Hwi HaJoon (I don’t know if I spell his name correctly ? I have heard nothing about it since it was announced that it would be airing

  3. The drama is a visual feast. Kudos to the art team; everything from the setting, staging, landscaping, lighting, and fashion is top notch and brings out the best of Korean heritage with a modern touch. IU is a hoot and gives a delightful performance, and as a BWS fan I really wish he could add more depth and variety to his portrayal of Prince Ian. As Sanjae in Lovely Runner he gave such an endearing and charming performance with much more range, that he made me a fan. But here I am still waiting for that magic sparkle. The script is what lets me down frankly. As the winner out of 1000 contestants I expected it to be much more witty and sharp. Right now it is a fun watch but somehow predictable, tropey, and a bit shallow?

  4. He really can’t act. Yes, he is pretty but that is where everything ends. Not to mention that his face is damn frozen from procedures.

I am not sure I can watch this till the end. The pretty just isn’t enough for me.

  5. Thanks for this update. I rushed to watch ep1 after reading the blog. I’m enjoying it so far. This is fun for Sunday afternoon before getting ready for work again tomorrow.

IU continues to hone her acting skills. She has matured so much since her salad days. Her comedic timing is effortless and made me smile. IU nailed that major business bitch swag. lol. Not her fan, but I’m impressed by her growth. I can watch this drama just to root for her.

BWS is fine for me so far. They want to sell his visuals. So, he had shower scene and close-up shots from every angle. It’s not working on me. lol. I hope to see his explosive moments cuz I haven’t seen any from his dramas. He exuded charm while having strong chemistry with the FL in LR. So, I expect him to have good chemistry with IU too.

Nice to see Kdrama back to classical elements that attracted international viewers long ago. Although I’m a thriller/action junkie, Hollywood style tropes in the recent Kdrama may be overdone.

  6. It’s meh. Maybe it’s the current state of the world, but I don’t much care for the lives of rich people. IU’s character is failing to draw sympathy from me fast enough. So what if she’s a bastard child? Boohoo! Help me care faster because I can’t relate to someone who has wealth and power like her character! A liiiittle more depth about her backstory in the first two eps would’ve been helpful. Also, I can’t tell if she’s overacting or if it’s her character? I thought I liked her as an actress? At least I kind of care for the prince. I think it’s because of the side stories around him, like the young nephew (GUH!), his questionable sis in law, and the mysterious (?) death of his brother. He definitely has a fuller backstory by the end of the first two episodes. He’s not stiff in his acting, there’s just not much to do. He is very freaking pretty though! Bleh. K-dramas are so disappointing these days. I also feel like this drama could be shot better and look prettier. Where are the “Queen of Tears” cameras and angles!?! And a worthy OST?!! Yeah, it’s sounding like this drama is a pass and only check in occasionally to fast forward. Sigh!

  7. Iu looks like she’s having a lot of fun with her character, so far. I’m enjoying it, a lot, just wish I’d waited for more episodes to be available. Not one of these who watches each episode as they come out. Will wait a while now, until they build up.

His acting is fine, too, so far but hasn’t had to do a lot, yet.

  8. I’m on EP1. Gong Seung-yeon is moving every muscle in her face then there’s Byeon Wooseok daydreaming. LOL. I hope to see an improvement in the upcoming episodes; if not, I’ll reinforce my view that he’s just an inconsistent actor.

      • Is it so weird how some people always saying “imagine if some woman” literally in every single topic about man.
First of all, BWS is getting criticism for his acting, it’s not like people ignoring it.
Second of all, as big hater of PSH’s acting since The Heirs, it has nothing to do with gender at all.
She was terrible actress playing main lead roles in popular drama yet netizens didn’t pounce on her (not like I wished it either).
You really can criticise someone’s acting skills just for what it is.
