Xianxia C-drama The Adventures of Jian Chou with Zhao Lu Si Now in Talks with Male Lead Candidates Dylan Wang and Tan Jian Ci
I still think a Zhao Lu Si and Dylan Wang pairing is perfect and inevitable, but also one that gets mentioned often with drama productions and has yet to come to pass. So with this one I will also take it with a giant grain of salt. Zhao Lu Si’s next drama remains more and more likely the xianxia period drama The Adventures of Jian Chou (朝花不见愁 Chao Hua Bu Jian Chou) adapted from the novel 我不成仙 or I Won’t Become an Immortal. This week C-ent casting rumor first said the male lead is going to be Tan Jian Ci, and then days later now says the male lead in talks is Dylan Wang. The source novel is female lead centric so I don’t see Dylan taking it as second fiddle but with so much rewriting going on in C-ent with source materials to fit what productions want anything can happen.

YES 👏 👏👏👏Dylan wang and Zhao Lu Si
LUSI WANG HEDI MAKE IT REAL!!!
Yikes. What a mess. TJC at least is a decent actor.
Not sure if Dylan wang and Zhao lusi can make it happen without getting into billing and fan wars. So tan jian ci seems most likely a better candidate unless his fan base is testy too. I like tjc better of the two because I find his acting more convincing.
His fan base is super grumpy because they thought he would get Qi Xia in Ten Days. Then looks like Under the Skin 3 is also cancelled.
He is stuck with stupid costumes when he thought he could move on. No way he doesn’t fight her in these circumstances.
There’s no reason or time for his fanbase to be grumpy, with all his projects and appearances and successes. These are lies pushed by a well known toxic fandom, who ironically, keep trumpeting their fav’s last ‘stupid costume drama.’ There is no official word about Under the Skin 3, and only an idiot would think Linmon is going to cancel their most successful franchise.
The entire rumored cast for this drama is unbelievable.
@Galloway
Ever since Tan Jianci was caught having relations with a minor, he has been scrapped. Do you really think Tencent would have specifically bought hot searches that he isn’t in their production otherwise?
Keep dreaming that he is doing well.
Is that you Coolaria?
Complete slander on both counts as you well know. Whoever paid for that black draft picked a real loser. She was a convicted defamer, who claimed to be a lesbian in court documents. She went from ‘we’re dating,’ to ‘we’re broken up now,’ to “we had a platonic relationship.” Though she emphatically stated she was not a minor, cause that sort of lie will land you in jail.
Tencent never bought a hotsearch mentioning Tan Jian Ci. Nor was he scrapped by anyone. Unlike others, he wasn’t cancelled or soft banned. And not a single brand dropped him — he did three brand livestreams in the middle of the black attack. In fact, he picked up another brand and upgrade. His S+ drama started on time weeks later, with the biggest booting ceremony in Hengdian. And he was named Beijing International Film Festival promotional ambassador and invited to the red carpet opening.
I personally think Dylan Wang is more charismatic than Tan Jian Ci although Dylan needs to work on his line delivery. Also, my first thought about this rumor was possible billing fight.
All that being said, script and direction matter more than the pairing. Cdrama is not consistent in delivering quality products. For example, you had the same director who did a great job casting and directing the Double, but whose latest work, Rebirth, is an epic flop on many levels.
Oh so rebirth is not doing well? I thought maybe things would have improved some but I went to my drama list website to check what people are saying so far and it is wild how divided the comments are. Saying the original can’t be beat and the other is how the new one is so awesome but awkward due to the female being younger. I’m always waiting before I watch but personally the first drama was alright but not as phenomenal as some comments are raving it be. It did drag a bit and the open ending still annoys me so much but I heard this new one has a bit of flashbacks to kind reintroduce what happened from the old one. Kind of sad it could not get the recognition they hyped it up to be but it is still yet to finish. Still waiting till it finishes.
Rebirth had many flashbacks of hallmark arcs to PA…in disjointed ways. The first few eps were incoherent. The Double’s PD failed this one. The camerawork had weird zooms in and out, not to mention bad acting did not help.
LYR only had a few minutes of screen time. I tuned in to watch him. lol. The weakest link is the FL and the 2nd ML who were there like cardboards. lol. I’ve never seen such bad acting, let alone close-up shots with constant zooming exposed how little emotion they were actually showing.. I wonder if these two kids’ brains were still underdeveloped that the director just gave up teaching them how to not look like planks. lol. I’d not be surprised if these actors as the two iconic characters in PA are roasted by viewers cuz my review will be brutal too.
The FL and the 2nd ML were miscast! LYR looked totally fine. This drama is a letdown.
I’m enjoying Rebirth but the choreography on action scenes kinda sux and the guy that played Shawn’s character is not really a good actor. I didn’t even find Shawn’s character handsome and happen to think this guy is better looking Shawn was definitely a way better actor than this guy. I always thought the fl was pretty after she grew up and wondered how she would be like to lead in a drama but I kind of feel her big wide eyes are not doing her any favor but instead she looks weird most of the time like she can’t blink.
the director is notorious for telling his actors not to blink in bts videos so the weirdness may come from his directing and not the fl’s acting.
I did not think the Double was amazing. It was just okay with a ton of plot holes. I feel like Rebirth has a similar disjointed flow. I dont think its the actors fault. The script is just horrid.
The Double had the addictive factor, which is technically an artistic value.
Zhao Lusi’s studio has already denied all the rumored drama projects linked to her. Production teams forced them to make it official because the rumors were already hurting investment. If a soft-banned or high-risk artist gets tied to a project, investors pull out and the whole production is at risk.
BORING. Boring pairing again. There are no other artists in this Chinese entertainment. WHAT A SHAME.
Tan Jian Ci still lacks the charisma needed to prevent his height from being a noticeable factor. He doesn’t have a commanding screen presence.
I consider he’s a better option than Wang He Di though, considering that he has more acting credibility.
ZangLingHe naysayer is here. This place was better off without people like you. Now you also mess with TanJianCi? What has happened to you in life to make you poisonous?
You’re looking to add salt to a nonexistent wound. LOL.
Have to disagree. Tan Jian Ci’s Xiang Liu was exceedingly charismatic and commanding. Charisma and acting talent isn’t tied to height, as we’ve seen with many actors. He can’t play a pro basketball player or an Olympic body builder believably, but many can not.
A single role cannot unify or balance everything he has done in his filmography.
Except it isn’t a single role. He was the standout in Under the Skin. He played star Beijing Opera singer Chen Ren Xiang and went toe to toe with Andrew Yin in Winter Begonia. His Prince Zhou in Court Lady stole most the scenes he was in. He played Sima Zhao brillantly, Cao Pi, and voiced Cao Cao — all iconic roles requiring screen presence. Even his first role in Lost Indulgence, as a teenager, without any acting experience, he had the presence and charisma to stand out amongst hundreds, many actors.
@Kokuto. You don’t need to give me details because I’ve seen 99% of his filmography, except for his drama with Zhou Ye. LOL. I just don’t find his performances before and after Lost You Forever to be outstanding or noteworthy.
If you believe height has anything to do with screen presence, then I understand why you feel that way. Fortunately, there’s plenty in the industry and critics that don’t agree with you, and appreciate his outstanding works and screen presence.
What is the need to want to change my mind, if it is only my personal consideration? LOL.
Where did I say you should change your mind? I just pointed out your opinion and height criteria wasn’t shared.
@Kokuto. Oh, by mentioning to me the reasons why you, the industry, and critics appreciate Tan Jian Ci and “charismatic” and “strong presence”, you tried to get me to see why I’m wrong, even though you never asked what I was basing myself on. LOL! Comparing him to South Korean and Japanese actors who also don’t reach the ideal 180cm, he is not skilled enough (he tends to has repetitive mannerisms, that is why I continue to notice his height). Even in the Chinese industry itself, there are stronger players than him.
I specifically said I (and the industry) did not AGREE with you, not that you were wrong, since it’s only your “personal consideration,” not fact. I responded to your claim that only one role demonstrated charisma and commanding screen presence, with a list of some of Tan Jian Ci’s roles that demonstrated just those traits, since I have no idea what you’ve watched or not.
I didn’t compare him to other actors in Japan, Korea, or China or made that claim or expressed that opinion, so that has nothing to do with my posts.
I just find it odd to hear you, and others, who allegedly appreciate Asian actors, spouting the same nonsense you hear in Western entertainment about Asian men — that they are too short and lack screen presence for heroic or main roles.
Zhao Lusi denied that she is doing this so that’s that.
Is she soft banned?
