Yang Chao Yue in Talks for Wuxia Period C-drama Jian Ge Wen Ling with Male Lead Li Yun Rui
So this is a female lead name I haven’t heard in awhile. C-actress Yang Chao Yue may be making her female lead comeback soon as she’s in talks for the period wuxia C-drama Jian Ge Wen Ling with basically confirmed male lead Li Yun Rui. It’s a big male lead IP based on the same name novel so with Li Yun Rui cast his possible female candidates with exclude the current A-lister actresses who want to be top billed themselves. Yang Chao Yue was the female lead in a slew of C-dramas from 2021-2023 but her last outing in Love You Seven Times was such a flop that she lost her backing and has been in that weird place where she hasn’t landed the lead roles she wants but she’s not willing to take supporting roles again and become a character actress. Reportedly she did take acting lessons during this off period so who knows maybe that break has improved her acting and C-ent is ready for her to return.

I AM so disappointed at LYR’s choice of scripts following the success of Blossom. He has bad luck with his female leads.
Wang Yinglu (his costar in Yummy3) can act circles around him.
I agree, I started the drama because of him, but if it weren’t for her acting, I would have given up on it.
That drama with WYL was a dud regardless of who performed better. I dropped it from the get-go. No time for me to evaluate who is a better actor. lol. But if the FL were more charismatic, I might give it a few more eps to see if it gets better.
I advanced to episode 20, I left it because I entertained myself with dramas that were valuable to my interests. LOL. But as far as I saw, he was frozen-in-time, she wasn’t. Her acting in Yummy3 is not as outstanding as the one she offered in Twelve Letters, but it’s fine enough.
Now after constant same boring drama,i think blosson was quite watchable because of it’s plots rather than the actors.Because if the actors were really great then their other work would be great too.
Same for wang yinglu too, her strong backing gave her staight baobao role as her first. Overall I’m nobody is so overrated like if you’ve read novel or even watched donghua then you’ll know it. I tried tweleve letters also but the plot was so uncanny with kdrama THE YOUTH OF MAY,with just reverse role of ml & fl and added plot of being in jail than being dead or else even the cinematography was same. The comedy themed yummy yummy was so boring.Beut seriously she just debuted and she already have movie and great dramas reasources,Well Huangxiaoming is her boss so it’s obvious.I wish other deserving would also have such strong backings.
@Ava, your comment was hard to read; I’m not used to rough writing since I only started learning English not long ago. LOL. But I can disagree with your comparison between Twelve Letters and The Youth of May. They are radically different dramas. Twelve Letters doesn’t feature an explicit love story set against the backdrop of a revolution. LOL. Where is the element of fantasy regarding communication across time in The Youth of May?
I’m glad YCY has been taking acting lessons. She wasn’t that bad on her guest spot on The Double and I sort of wish her company would have tried to book her some guest spots on big productions.
Congrats to LYR for getting the male lead role in a drama based on a male centric wuxia story!
Please no! I think she’s fine in cameos because her screen time is limited. She was also fine in some scenes in LYST, but terrible for a majority of it. If her role is a mere love interest with very little contribution to the story, then maybe. Even with acting lessons, come back with supporting roles to hone your skills. Stop taking up resources that could go to much more talented actresses. Dai Luwa is also not an A list yet. There are better choices.
Please no! Ycy is a terrible actor. How can someone as untalented as her keeps getting leading roles? Who’s behind her? Not to mention her visual doesn’t suit period dramas.
She is absolutely horrendous. Is he insane?!
Haha, do they want to punish Li Yunrui for the failure of Rebirth???
She is simply terrible at acting. Where there is zero talent, no amount of acting lessons will help and I hate to see her inflicted on yet another actor (and the audience).
Already Li Yunrui has all the charisma of stale toast bread (really not leading man material) and saddled with an totally incapable FL, this drama is guaranteed to flop.
Please don’t do this to Li Yunrui. Yang Chao Yue’s bad at acting but more than that, she has the looks of a villainous side character. It’s her upturned nose and pouty downturned lips that scream contempt.
He’s going to have to stick to roles where his characters have a warrior-like aura, because outside of the archetype, he’s not a solid actor. Why is it always a bad idea to look up certain actors’ filmographies once they’ve given a satisfactory performance? LOL.
On an additional note, users here really have selective “standards” that they only conveniently apply when it comes to an actress or actor they dislike. LOL.
Yang Chao Yue is a bad actress yet she has conventionally attractive features. However, CERTAIN folks here who criticize her for her lack of talent were 1) excitedly mentioning that they definitely only watch C-dramas for the visuals, regardless of the quality of the direction/plot. LOL. So why can’t she get a chance based on such an idea? 2) Those who claimed they only care about the plot and direction, why are they concerned about her poor acting skills if it’s not a direct threat to the show’s production hypothetically speaking? Interestingly, specifically these two groups now seem to realize that talent is a deal-breaker for them, even though that wasn’t the case just a few days ago. HAHA.
At the same time they complain about the lack of new faces, they make fun of the “nugus” who don’t have “star power” to attract viewers. I don’t get where their tangled wires come from. LOL. They’re using the same energy they employed to pretend that the slander against Zhang Linghe is justified just because they don’t like him. LOL. Welcome to the double standards olympics, where numbers, talent, and beauty are only used when memory fails. KPOP 2.0.
Well it’s not our fault to hate ZLH considering he thinks he’s the next XZ. He gains a little fame and his ego goes up. XZ didn’t survive 227 incident for other idiots to hang on to him. ZLH who has artificially inflated drama lol is the worst.
Also, why are you making excuses for a mediocre actress? What’s the problem if one wants to see Yang Yang just by his visuals as long as the plot engage us? I mean, beauty also weighs heavily on Chinese industry.
@Km, you’re proving my point.😂
Ideally, everyone pursuing a career in acting should indeed have the necessary skills to do so. But there’s truth in what you say about double standards. See, @CORALIE complains about why Yang Chao Yue keeps getting opportunities when she’s a staunch supporter of Esther Yu, who has neither talent nor beauty (and don’t give me the sappy line that beauty is subjective ’cause you know exactly what I mean). She’s here because of strong connections. Why doesn’t @CORALIE suggest that her fav should be assigned supporting roles as well? LMAO.
@Lmao, you really make me lmao. I have yet to see anyone praising YCY as capable of acting. Many have praised Esther for her acting and she is a top contender for ratings. Find me ANY drama where YCY is lead that didn’t flop terribly.
Comparing the two is hilarious and really makes you look like a fool. They’re not on the same level and if you can’t see that, well, guess that’s what ME lmao
I don’t mind Li Yunrui, but I agree he needs to hone his acting. He was actually rather flat in Blossom and his roles after that haven’t really been standout.
Actors like him, who’ve had a breakthrough role, usually have a string of mediocre performances behind them. LOL. And after their rise, they tend to fall back (like Chen Feiyu in his last two dramas). I need to see consistent credibility in their acting before I can consider them genuinely promising or good. I’ll keep watching them, yes, but I couldn’t go so far as to consider them “talents of their generation” or the “South Korean version” of a certain actor based in one or two roles, as is often preached here. It’s an emotional comparison to me. LOL. I did it myself once with Bai Lu, until I got tired of waiting for her to regain the momentum she showed in her debut. Now that I think about it, the actors under Yu Zheng’s agency usually only show themselves to be promising at the beginning of their careers, with the exception of Liang Yongqi and Nie Yuan.
SHAYELI:
And then when glazers realize that their climbing to stardom was due to external factors —like director assistance— ironically they try to scapegoat everyone except the actors who aren’t doing their job.
@Lmao. They’re indirectly admitting that their actors aren’t capable of delivering a good performance on their own. LOL. I have a list of Chinese actors who have impressive skills, no matter how shoddy the projects they’re in tend to be. Shawn Dou and Elvis Han, to name a few.
Why do people keep giving her a chance? She’s proven horrible and can’t act. Acting as supporting lead is more bearable than actual FL. Be like Zhao Qing who was Yu Zheng’s protege. She took a backseat once people complained about how she acted in her first drama. And then she semi-broke out after in smaller supporting roles like Mortal’s Journey to Immortality. There’s no shame in leveling up once she’s better at acting. Or even take up roles in vertical dramas. Those FLs can act circles around her
