Yoo Yeon Seok and Lee Se Young in Talks for Romance Sageuk Drama Princess Covets the Scholar
A manhwa is getting a K-drama adaptation and the set up is straight out of the bibimbap of selecting oft used elements in the entirety of drama land. Yoo Yeon Seok and Lee Se Young are up for Princess Covets the Scholar, the sageuk romance between an assertive princess who falls for the capable scholar in her father’s Joseon court and insists on marrying him. They then have to navigate the conflict and political tensions between their families. Lol, nothing like get married first and deal with problems later. I have no problems with combining typical set ups as the execution and acting makes or breaks a lot of dramas anyways, and this casting gives me deja vu from Yoo Yeon Seok’s recent thriller romance When the Phone Rings with Chae Soo Bin.

Isn’t this already 10th or 11th Manhwa/Webtoon adaptation announcement this year and it’s only April? 2027 is going to be the year of adaptations or what? Adding Whale Star and Men of the Harem along with Solo Levelling that’s already about 13-14 adaptations for next year.
Both are excellent actors. I did not finish When the Phone Rings but am enjoying God and the Law Firm very much. YYS is versatile. He is so funny in GatLF.
Good casting. Safe storyline. Manhwa turned to dramas are an excellent idea as the stories adapted has already achieved traction with readers and likability. Better than relying on original writers who have been churning out trash lately.
I’m actually looking forward to this pairing. Both are experienced, versatile actors so even if the story falls flat, at least the acting will be good.
I like Lee Se Young a lot but something about Yoo Yeon Seok gives me the willies.
Same. Had a huge crush on him after watching Mr. Sunshine, then his comments towards Moon Chae Won turned me off completely. My fault for not expecting these actors to be just as misogynistic as the average korean man in the first place, I guess…
Yes, please! Solid actors and the story sounds fun
I’m excited because I really want more stories about solid couples who are a team rather than the focus being on them falling in love and the story ending once they are together. There is much untapped potential for “after married” stories.
