Award Winning Veteran Lee Sung Min Criticized for Inadvertently Shading Shin Se Kyung’s Win for Baeksang Best Supporting Actress
What was a great night for Korea’s top movie and drama awards for the 2026 Baeksang Awards has led to an unfortunate negative chatter. Veteran multi-award winning actor Lee Sung Min took home the movie side Best Supporting Actor for his role in No Other Choice and during his acceptance speech he said that when his costar Yeom Hye Ran, who was the front runner in her Best Supporting Actress category, didn’t win her award he cursed out loud. It was a joking support of sorts to show how much he wanted her to win since the two played off each other playing a dysfunctional married couple in the movie. But it ended up being criticized by the public as shading or being dismissive of the winner of Best Supporting Actress Shin Se Kyung, which they aren’t wrong about it. Yeom Hye Ran also introduced herself when she went onstage to present as the person who didn’t win Best Supporting Actress, but her comment was better since it was self-deprecating. Director Park Chan Wook when accepting the award for Best Film also brought up Yeom Hye Ran not winning but said it was understandable as Shin Se Kyung did very well. Lordy, can people just do the usual thank friends and family and stick with the award acceptance script to avoid such awkward commentary.
