C-dramas Release Two Period Pieces with Blossoms of Power Starring Meng Zi Yi and He Yu and Key to the Phoenix Heart with Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi — 15 Comments

  1. Watching Blossoms of Power now. It reminds me a bit of Glory from earlier this year – the one with Gulinazha – crossed with a touch of Blossom. MZY’s makeup after her soul migrates over is a little more toned down in some scenes, which helps. I found the drama disjointed in the beginning, so it took about 4 episodes to get into it, but I’m liking it a lot now.

  2. Ai Mi’s agency’s decision maker must be a pedo perv. The agency keeps pushing this underaged girl with old dudes. Even in who rules the world when she was 11 or 13 got paired with twenty something Wang Hong Yi.

    • Or they are impatient and want her as a lead asap but underaged is underaged. Guess we will see how she fares after this drama. She is not the first to be rushed like this. It can’t be easy because she truly is a good actress. I’m sure she wants to get there too. They just don’t give a variety of projects for that age bracket except school dramas and most of the time they never put same ages actors in those roles.

    • More like they wanted to get big roles and popular at younger age to milk her fame as soon as possible; I am more surprised that there are many producing company are willing to bet on her with big budget dramas on small actress, yes she is talented but there are many talented girls out there

  3. I can’t bring myself to watch Aimi’s drama knowing her a minor, filming a romance drama with a 11 years older co-star. MZY having the same make-up or looks the same in all her dramas after Blossom.

  4. Is aimi regarded as one of the best actress in the industry that despite her age being a bad factor, the production house and casting director are risking it all for her? Why choose her as if she is the only choice when there are thousands actress not only age appropriate but acting wise good ones.Either big capital are backing her or inside connections are pushing her, or else i don’t think that she has emerged as a great actress from her previous works also.

    • There is no need to be regarded for best actress, these are just idol dramas, and needs to be visually good.
I like her well enough, she is a decent actress for her age, and her advantage, IMO, is her looks, fits the ethereal fairy aesthetics. Kind of reminds me of Liu Yi Fei with her iconic first role, the people behind her are probably pushing her in the same direction.

      • Well seeing how she is in movie of Stephen chow which is big deal, and casted in s+dramas here and there only as fl.
Her agency and family are working hard to push her everywhere. Even when her own fans and other people said let her finish uni and be in her 20s before starring with older people as lead actress but still her mother and agency were crazy for popularity so what can we audience even say when they are deperate for fame.
Her visuals are great but tbh acting nahhh she barely has any presence, it’s like moving doll with recorded dialogs.I have seen better younger actors than her in chinese industry and in kdramas age of actors aren’t even question they are so great in their art despite being so young.

  5. Meng Ziyi must be scared of getting replaced because her roles and makeup are so similar. She’s either 1) playing a princess of some sort and/or 2) taking revenge. All her upcoming historical roles have the same troupe so fans of hers would probably be elated while the audience gets bored to death.

KOPH – The storyline is carrying the drama so far. I don’t like either HHMH or Ai Mi so no comments on their acting.

  6. I am really enjoying Blossoms of power, it’s hitting all the right notes for me despite me being a bit meh about the actress. Key to the phoenix heart though is missing something for me, am I the only one who finds this production very low quality for some reason? Personally don’t have problem with the age gap but nothing about the show is reeling me in so I’m considering dropping it

    • Its not lol. She’s basically confirmed as the female lead for Guo Jingming’s Bai Yao Pu and the other lead is Deng Wei, and the comments are all about her age and how her agency is exploiting her. I don’t think the comments are gonna stop even if she turns 20.

      • Guo Jingming is so gross. I saw his birthday wishes to her and he had to end it with remember to lose weight.

  7. I am really enjoying Phoenix Heart more; it is so different from the usual plot and has some surprises here and there , i am sick of back-from-death revenge dramas

  8. I was actually planning to watch this drama because I’ve been seeing so many positive reviews about it. The trailer also looked really interesting, and at first I thought, “This might be my next C-drama.”
But then I found out that the female lead is 10 years younger than the male lead and was still a minor during filming. That honestly made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I know they’re just acting, but it’s difficult for me to overlook that fact.
Most Chinese historical dramas are centered around romance, with the chemistry between the leads being a major part of the story. Because of that, I’m curious about how this drama is going to handle their relationship. Is she meant to be more of a younger sister or someone the male lead protects? Or is there going to be a significant time skip before any romance develops? I assume there won’t be any kissing or intimate scenes while she’s portraying a minor, but I really don’t know.

I’m still intrigued because everyone seems to be praising the drama, and the trailer definitely piqued my interest. I just can’t quite picture how the plot is going to work, especially given the ages of the actors during filming. I’ll probably wait for more reviews before deciding whether to watch it.
