First Look at Period C-drama Reborn Empress with Dylan Wang and Meng Zi Yi in Tencent Official Filming Wrap Production Trailer — 24 Comments

  1. I really find Meng Ziyi’s plastic surgery face very distracting in period dramas. Thus I find it hard to really enjoy her roles. But I am quite fond of her in variety shows. I am aware many artists do PS these days but some are not as distracting.

  2. Meng Ziyi doesn’t have plastic surgery her child photo and nose scar is proof. Even so it’s just maintenance and enhancements. I don’t understand the hate towards the actress. I quite like her and her shows. Honestly I just don’t understand ppl in general that like to judge and criticize others. Just don’t watch the show. It’s cyberbullying. It’s not like she committed any major crime.

    • Give it a rest babe. People will comment and judge celebs as long as they appear on our screen. It isn’t cyberbullying when they dont even read 99% of what goes on in the online sphere about them. Why do ppl like you love getting on your moral high-horse to lecture people doing what is perfectly normal in this context? Do you never in your life judge and criticise others, ever? Never gossip or talk badly about others in your life? Are you a saint? Definitely not, so stop being a hypocrite and preaching and lecturing ppl, we aren’t interested.

Anyway can’t stand MZY in her acting roles she definitely has gotten PS and fillers – only the blind and the hypocrites will deny – and always ladled with so much of makeup in every single show of hers, that she cant even seem to want to act/move her face cos she doesnt wanna look “ugly”. shes ok in variety and should just stay there.

  3. I think Meng Ziyi is ok. Her only problems are that she has the same expression and makeup in every drama, but she isn’t ugly and doesn’t over-act.

  4. Dylan Wang has the longest face I’ve ever seen with the most unkind eyes and unbearable voice. I simply don’t get why many are simps!

    • His face is literally smaller than most actors you know 😂 his “unkind” eyes go with the character so yes hes doing his job right. Might as well drop your preferred Actor and I’ll tell you what you are

  5. The number of shows I am skipping these days due to Meng ziyi. Her massive dazed expressions made it hard to finish Blossom. It’s not has bad as Esther whose shows I skip automatically but it seems that I have to mentally convince myself to watch Meng ziyis shows. Sigh

  6. Neither one of them can act and it shows even in this. I love this book but I fear they will absolutely destroy it.

She is going to swan through the drama with no facial movement and wide open eyes and he is going to posture through it because looking “cool” is the thing he does in these roles.

    Another ruined book. Sigh.

      • Trashy romance is what you like to watch. This ain’t it.

You shouldn’t worry though. Your bully gege will still hype himself up to more money even if he speaks like an uneducated lout and can’t act his way out of a paper bag. After all, he has the capital bosses behind him.

  7. Ironically, MZY’s Power of Blossom is the only C drama that I’ve managed to stick with since Pursuit of Jade. While many netizens are critical of her makeup, styling, and whatnot, I found many other C leading ladies have far more unbearable distractions in their performances. lol. Of course, hot ML with a very unique acting style like He Yu contributes a lot to keeping my hooked. lmao.

I’m not sure about Dylan Wang though. I’ve never been able to finish a single one of his shows. I was indifferent to him until Guardians of the Dafeng turned me off. I don’t think he brought the right comedic energy to the role, and the show ultimately felt like cheap slapstick. lol. I’ll give this new drama a try just to see what all the buzz is about.

    • Funny enough, I’m also watching Power of Blossom. Her performance doesn’t scream I’m the best actress who can make this character fun and loveable with what I have, but I appreciate how cunning and decisive her character is. She’s headstrong, but maybe too headstrong when it comes to love lol.

I do love He Yu’s character though. It’s the way how he plays it and how charming his character is written. He’s witty, smart, petty, cunning, romantic, and funny all at the same time.

This is a first C-drama for me where the ML, and his friend second ML tries so hard to win the girls over LOL. I’m at ep 23, and the guys are barely melting the tip of the iceberg.

      • If an actor delivers a performance that is vastly different from his prior roles, I’m immediately impressed. He Yu is a perfect example. I love how he interprets his character in Blossom of Power.

  8. MZY reminds me of another actress who had the exact same makeup and similar styling. So it comes across as same and repetitive. I dont thk MZY is a terrible actress though.

  9. I don’t think MZY fits the role of fierce little Shen Miao at all. Sigh. The novel is one of my favorites of all time. I’m just going to wait for spoilers and reviews because of my love for the MC.

Also, what happened to the beautiful silver mask? 😹 This one looks terrible.

  10. Meng ziyi is really making it hard for me to watch any dramas. Like seeing the massive hype of bloosoms of power and the novel being so good, i tried to watch the drama but gosh her whole suffocating acting with expressionless face and that horrendous dubbing really was such a ick that i had to drop it. And seeing she has almost 5 or 6 dramas on shelf is so disturbing.Just because you have backing gives you everything. Idc if she is beautiful, like who isn’t in the industry so it’s nothing new. But seeing people defending her dumbass performances just cause she is serving look doesn’t justify her poor acting.

  11. How the drama would flesh out the ML character is something I’d look forward to in this drama. The novel’s description of XJX fits Dylan so accurately so I can see him pulling this off easily.

  12. MZY and Gulnaz are two actresses that I can not watch they are like artificially cloanned people. Over all Chinese dramas may have interesting plots but they have luck of really talented actors and actresses. Its time they bring fresh faces male and female actors. Have you noticed that really talented actors and actresses only make movies not dramas

  13. There’s just really too many rebirth dramas, especially Qian Shan Cha Ke ones. I get her work is popular, but can we get a bit more spacing in between? This is like when they just kept remaking Jin Yong novels over and over again.
