I’m a little eyebrow raise on this statistic but whatevers, kudos to Tencent for drumming up interest in it’s new xianxia C-drama The Last Immortal as it hit 6 million reservations of viewers ahead of tomorrow’s premiere. I would have given Tencent’s record C-drama this year to The Longest Promise which had 5 million reservations but it didn’t break 6. The Last Immortal stars fallen goddess Zhao Lu Si turned into a magical beast bound together with lackadaisical god Wang An Yu who is the son of the two immortal lead characters in the story/drama Ancient Love Poetry. There are new OTP stills and previews just released and the drama still looks extremely comical like overly so, I feel like it might mar the xianxia aura which can be comedic but not slapstick to this degree.
Preview for The Last Immortal:
Can’t wait!
I feel like yesterday that crossing over 1 million reservation is considered outstanding. Even reservations have its inflation sigh…
I don’t understand the logic that reservations are being padded and chosen artists only get this? How does a platform benefit from this in the long run, does not make sense. But can’t control everyone’s thinking. This will be my first time watching a Xianxia so I don’t really know what to expect lol
Think of quest video games. Usually three realms–lowest being a mortal, then immortal, then gods/goddesses. You get “points” by going under trial through incarnations. Sometimes you earn forgiveness of high crimes by doing the same, LOL. A mortal can also become immortal through quests. Then there are the high gods/goddesses realm where everything is mysterious and their realm is locked up on and off for whatever reason. And oh, the realms also undergo trials of peace and war between them because they freaking won’t kill the Big Bads and instead just “lock” or “tie” them up with silly magical prisons that they finally break out of. LOL.
This is how I view it. A computer game of magical quest in which our heroes USUALLY get three lives (reincarnations. Sometimes more, if they are a high god, like our heroine here). And each reincarnation ends sadly because you know, it’s a trial. So there, hope this clears everything, haha. #allexplainedInFun
Hey thanks Gennita
Thank you for explaining! I also don’t play quest video games hahaha but I understood the gist esp why everyone keeps saying it’s full of angst when it’s xianxia!
Liz and Nena, you’re both welcome. Happy drama watching!
Xian Xia isn’t usually my cup of tea. We will see how this turns out
It’s actually so bad. Lol. People wanna talk about LYN not being “good looking”, which isn’t true at all, but the lead in this one has ZERO attractiveness appeal after the first ep, which I fast-forwarded through. I wish the first guy on screen was the lead. Lol! I also think the second ML can actually act, so BOO that he’s always second fiddle. I wish more xianxias would be like “Fairy and Devil” with some actual depth in the story. Anyways, back to “A Journey to Love”…
I 100% agree! I don’t want to bring anybody down and beauty is in the eye of the beholder BUT I don’t find this ML attractive at all, sorry but he does not look like lead material. LYN look way better IMO, c-netizens are ridiculous!
It’s not just his looks which can be overlooked if he has acting talent, but so far the lead has zero charisma and his acting feels robotic. He actually sucks the life out of the room, if that’s even possible. I’ll hang on for Lusi’s sake, but it had better pick up in the next few episodes, cause not even her will keep me watching this. I dropped the prequel cause the lead actress’s acting wasn’t cutting it for me, though I loved Xu Kai. And it looks like the sequel may go the same way. There are some dramas where it takes the actors some time to settle into their roles, so I’ll give it a few more episodes before deciding.
ML seems a bit shy..back to the point. even if the actors all good but the story line is cliche af, its a turnoff for me. slapstick comedy, not being able to diff male & female, accidental kiss, good evil..these are like the main ingredients. well2
